2024 College Football Thread: Ohio State advances to play unbeaten hypothetical SEC team (5 Viewers)

Well at least it was a nice run there by Beck after not bothering to throw to the WR he was staring right at completely uncovered.

that pass interference call was trash but it hurt texas so i will allow it take that to the bank bromigos

Thank god I was at a Chance for Hope event today and missed whatever putrid performance USC put up. What a freaking embarrassment.

The targeting penalty really needs to be looked at. I get it they don`t want d players to lead with helmet. Yesterday I saw 3-4 times RBs destroy DBs the same way. Head down buried into the chest of DBs, just ran them over. Is it different for O players?

Just saw a post on another forum that said the line at FSU/Miami next weekend opened as -1 FSU. That feels like super free money unless I’m missing something extremely obvious.

Officially? No.

In practice, yes. Let's just say if an official throws that flag, they risk a reprimand. We are told it better be the most egregious thing ever before you call it.

So Oregon should be # 1 now, right?

:scream:

Absolutely, and I think they have to put Penn St. #2. Then we see how many undefeated teams are leapfrogged by Georgia and OSU.
If this happens, it will be only the third week this century that PSU has been rated that high in the AP poll. The last time (2017) ended with a loss to tOSU who we play in 2 weeks.

Would love to see PSU overlook their trip to Madison next weekend but I’m not very hopeful.

It’s happening in the NFL, although this wasn’t penalized on the field. https://x.com/TomPelissero/status/1840121883485954524

I know there are gamblers in this thread. Somehow Michigan is favored by 6.5 over Michigan State next weekend. That's complete insanity. Free money.

Michigan would have to shut MSU out to win by 6.5.

Why is that even a question?

I kind of hope we end up at #2. Zero positives of being ranked #1 in October. But I don't see how we aren't #1.

ESPN's FPI is.....interesting. Ducks at #8? I actually get tOSU, and you could make an argument for Georgia. But Notre Dame and Ole Miss? Texas and Alabama? Tennessee?

Oh, I promise I don't care about where Oregon is ranked on Oct. I care about the rankings in January when it's all over.

But there is no reason in the world why they won't be ranked #1 come Monday. None.

Why did they add the two minute warning anyway?

I have seen it thrown once. And it was egregious.
A reason ball carriers do not get penalized is that most of the time when they put the head down, it is not aimed at a player. The defenders are always aiming at the ball carrier.

The two minute Timeout was added to give a better defined timing mark for the changes with the clock. Before the two minute warning, under 2:00, the clock stopped temporarily for 1st downs and stopped until the snap for plays that ended out of bounds. Then under 1:00, zap 10 conditions got added. The goofy part on these were if the play started at 2:01 but ended at 1:52 with a first down, should the clock stop or not. So the two minute time out cleaned all of these items up. All of the item, zap 10, OOB clock stop, first down stop clock, and others are now after the two minute timeout.

TV games are to keep a commercial break saved for this spot as well. So if each quarter has 3 TV TOs, one of the 2nd and 4th quarter TOs will be at that time.

Apologies if this was posted already. But the fake injury has to stop. Simple rule. You go down while play is live or the clock is moving, you are out for at least 5 minutes of actual game time. including the entire first quarter of the next game if it slips beyond the current game

Doesn't even have to be that complicated. You are out for that series unless your team calls a timeout. Player safety and all that.

It's one of Lane Kiffin's top plays with Ole Miss this year.

Somebody on Twitter today called Oklahoma “SEC Nebraska” and I’ve thought about that for a while now.
Certainly feels like it is heading in that direction. At least OU didn’t move away from its recruiting base, and Oklahoma produces way more top-end talent at the HS level than Nebraska. But if they whiffed on this Venables hire, which seems more and more likely each week, this could be a rough decade+

Idk about whiffed yet. It's easily the best defense I've ever had as an OU fan (which started in 2010 as a freshman).

So I just sub in and end of bench guy to have a non contact injury as the huddle breaks.
