2024 Handcuffs (3 Viewers)

None, I don’t prioritize them. If I have room fine, but predicting injuries loses more times than it wins. Besides, rostering a higher upside player is probably a better play over a lesser upside handcuff.

Edit: I will say where it gets interesting is when the handcuff is also a high upside talent.

I've read Corum could be one of the bigger potential booms this year. Kyren currently has a foot issue and missed a good chunk of games last year as well.

Corum in McVay's O could be dangerous.

It's none for me also. A lot of the "handcuffs" would share time imop if a true #1 workhorse goes down.
Let's say I have one of the top three running backs. I'd rather take say Devin Singletary or Gus Edwards later in the draft to plug in.

The ones I find most interesting are those that have somewhat clear paths to a big workload if the starter goes down and seem to have potential:

Corum
Allen
Ray Davis
Wright
Charbonnet

Excluding the RBBC guys like Pollard/Spears, Harris/Warren, etc.

I agree with @JohnnyU - in the couple decades I have played FF, I don't think I have ever prioritized cuffing my RB. If I am handcuffing my RB, doesn't that basically say I don't trust my draft?

However, this might be the year I go zero RB, and if I do that - I'll likely be looking at James Conner, Mostert and I would see value in owning the Trey Benson's and Jaylen Wrights of the world.

I don't see it that way at all. I see it as risk management because it's a position where guys get hurt all the time.

I don't like to use early-ish picks on them, but the downside could be huge if you lose a stud RB and don't have a viable replacement - if not your own handcuff, then maybe someone else's. The key is making sure you don't grab a guy who will most likely be in a committee.

Except most of us that handcuff arent investing that much draft capital. I handcuff. Always have. Every league is different I've always played with big rosters. Helps me sleep at night.

What handcuffs are you prioritizing drafting this year?
maybe this?

I like to collect lottery tickets from the thread posted above. They're not handcuffs to my guys - I don't think that is a winning strategy but you do you - but I like having 4-7 guys who might become fantasy relevant overnight. I can find bye week fillers for every other position if I don't have a good bench, but I can almost never find a replacement RB on the WW without blowing half my FAAB.

I just noticed I've gone full handcuff king. Over the past few waiver wires and some of my late round picks, I have accumulated:

  • Chase Brown
  • Tyler Allgeier
  • Braelon Allen
  • Blake Corum
The Brown pick is already paying off as he is starting to get more and more touches. One injury to Bijan/Breece/Kyren and I have a potential league winner for free/cheap. However that's very wishful thinking and I am burning bench spots on enormous question marks who I can't really start.

For me this year I wanted to go with the Walker/Charbonnet combo. So far it's worked nicely. Charbonnet has a little bit of stand alone value, but for the most part Walker hasn't been hurt too badly by him. When Walker misses time, Charbonnet gets almost all the work and can put up good numbers just by volume alone. That's ideal.

What isn't ideal is ending up with an ugly committee back for your handcuff. For example, I'm not sure it'd be worth it to try and handcuff Kamara. Jamal Williams isn't any good anymore, Kendre Miller is always hurt, and there's the Taysom factor. You're better off just drafting something else IMO.
