2025 College Football Thread: Mike Gundy concedes if they paid players better they would have only lost by 49 (6 Viewers)

What a dumb throw but of course he completes it. Please keep doing that.
He will. And he will complete it again most of the time.

Mateer is a major gamer.
He made me a fan, I will be interested to see how he holds up against the SEC schedule but he could end up in the Heisman coversation.
Yeah, they need to figure out how to not get him killed.
So far he has managed to avoid it against one of the best defenses in the nation. I think he is just that guy that can do that. 🤷‍♂️ We shall see.

I’m a Washington Husky fan and I really admire Mateer. Wish him the best.
Not sure the Michigan defense is what everyone thought it was, but time will tell. The defenses they have left to face are going to be on par or better than what they saw tonight. I don't think he'll be able to do it by himself, but will be fun and watch him try.
On par or better may be a bit dour. I generally see OU as a top 3-5 defense in the country alongside something like Clemson and tOSU.

My VT team is so bad. It’s comical. Brent pry is useless. We have the 12th highest paid AD who is a total Moron. maybe 1 program in the top 25 in any sport.

At least we have no shot at being in a power conference when the ACC dissolves. We can put that to rest and get back into the colonial conference for games against Odu, JMU and William and Mary. Where will be the underdog.

Horrible.
Other than all that, how was the play Mrs. Lincoln?

I feel like Michigan should maybe run a couple designed QB power runs like Oklahoma does

For a freshman on the road I thought the kid did alright. With his athleticism I was surprised they didn’t do more designed runs. Once he figures out when to bail on a pass play and take off he will be dangerous - he had a couple of plays last night where it looked like a sure first down if he ran but he hung in and looked for a receiver. That’s actually good as most young kids would panic.

So besides being a UCLA fan I’m a lifelong Steelers fan. For several months now I’ve been reading that the Steelers’ long term plan is to draft a franchise QB in the upcoming draft of 2026.

So after a couple of weeks of college football I’m wondering: who are the candidates for that position? Because I haven’t been especially impressed so far with what’s out there.

Manning (Texas), Nussmeier (LSU), Klubnick (Clemson), Sellers (SCar), Allan (PSU), maybe the kid from OK.

The DeShaun Foster era at UCLA needs to end now. After getting stomped at home last week against Utah, they are getting stomped this week against UNLV. 17-0 and the Rebels are looking for more. And the Bruins just look terrible with tons of penalties and stupid plays. Inexcusable.

They need to be relegated out of the Big Ten. Your fans don't support the team. The coach is a joke. Nobody wants this job.

All these have a ton to develop before they become legit "franchise" level IMO. If I had to pick one today and one to stay completely away from they would be Mateer and Allar respectively.

Manning has been less than impressive so far. Klubnick looks terrible to me. I like Nussmeyer.

ESPN seems to love the kid from South Carolina above all of them but I haven’t watched them.

I wish I could argue with you about any of this.

Dante Moore. You guys should have kept him. He is him.

It's sad. Growing up, watching UCLA was a treat. Great weather, great venue, awesome uniforms, best coeds in the land. It just stinks how far the Bruins have fallen.

They still have all of that. But now they just have to travel like 3000 miles one way to get drubbed by somebody like Rutgers.

They need to change venues. A 45 minute drive from campus is no way to build (or rebuild) a fan base. Hell, it’s closer to USC’s campus. Plus, a 90,000 capacity stadium in Los Angeles will almost never be sold out for a regular season home game unless they are playing USC.

Plus school hasn’t even started yet for them.

Gotta think Gundy is done after this year. He got a lot of passes because he had a sort of kinduv Bill Synder aura to him. In the NIL era it is probably time to find something a little less stale and see if the Pickens heirs haven't blown all their cash yet.

USC still unranked which makes sense given their opponents (and some perceived weaknesses on D). Will be interesting to see what the number one offense after two weeks can do when they face a real team.

Who cares? It's two games. It will mostly fix itself over the course of the season with the usual SEC and B1G bias added to their mediocre teams.

 I said it made sense that they weren’t ranked. Didn’t suggest that it was something that needed fixing.

GM'S TOP 20

1. Ohio State - Coin flip with #2
2. Penn State - They lost the flip
3. Oregon - Jumps ahead of LSU and Georgia. Might be misplaced confidence but they steamrolled a B12 school.
4. LSU - Didn't see a lick of this game. 23-7 vs......(checks notes) Louisiana Tech? Any thoughts on this, LSU fans?
5. Miami - He's going to stumble at some point, but I have to hand it to Mario and co. This is a dream start.
6. Georgia - 28-6 over Austin Peay, huh? What's that all about?
7. Florida State - Do you believe? I do.
8. Oklahoma - Best victory of the weekend. Is there another Heisman QB coming from Norman?
9. South Carolina - Best team in the state, IMO. I didn't think that was possible in August.
10. Notre Dame - We'll know soon whether or not this is warranted. TAMU looks dangerous.
11. Iowa State - How many teams can say they are 3-0 with wins over two rivals? Just one.
12. Illinois - This feels weird but I'm ranking them lower than others.
13. Texas - Yes, I'm punishing the Longhorns for not playing a real team until Oct. 4.
14. Tennessee - Outscored their two opponents 117-43.
15. Texas A&M - Big test in South Bend this week.
16. Ole Miss - Not every game will be easy, especially on the road. But you have to win 'em and they did.
17. USC - This one's for you, BB. They curb-stomped their old coach.
18. Utah - NOBODY is talking about this team. I think they are scary good.
19. South Florida - Take a bow. And say goodbye to your coach. Gainesville's on line #2.
20. Texas Tech - Haven't seen 'em yet, but they're obliterating teams. Back up your Brinks' truck and unload on Tech hosting Oregon State (one of the worst teams in football).

Dropping out:
Arizona State - what was I thinking??
Michigan - They'll be back I'm sure.
Clemson - Very disappointing start to the season. Lotta hype; lotta let down.
Alabama - I just don't think they belong in the Top 20 right now.
SMU - Fun game but you lost to Baylor. That hurts.
Florida - Wooof.

Just Missed:
Auburn
Mizzou
Indiana

Texas Tech -24.5. It's a lot, but this feels like a major blow-out to me. Oregon State with two ugly losses at home to Cal and Fresno State. Now they travel to Lubbock? Egad, Beaver nation.

How bad is it? My neighbor and good friend went to OSU and *ALWAYS* puts his Oregon State flag out on game days. He hasn't hung it out front once this season. The only thing worse than being a bad football team is being a team or fan that stops caring and that's what we're looking at right now.

USC is currently favored at Purdue this week by 21.5 points. If I were a betting man who was willing to bet against his team, I’d take the points. I do think USC wins, but I don’t think they’ll cover. This isn’t last year’s Purdue. Barry Odom came in and it appears he is getting things turned around, and their OC was at USC the last three years.

And I heard an interesting stat this morning. Do you know what USC’s record playing in the Central or Eastern time zone over the last 14 games is? The answer is 0-14.

Kinda like the Yellow Jackets getting 3.5 at home against Clemson if Haynes King is a full go. Feel like this team could give Clemson fits.

Tenn +3.5 at home over Georgia seems playable to me too.

South Carolina only favored by 4.5 at home over Vandy? Is Vandy for real? I like the Gamec0cks.

And my bias is showing, but I think I have to take South Florida +17.5 over the Canes. Probably just a waste of money, but boy would an upset make me giddy.

I think you've got a combination of factors here where the Cocks have not looked good on offense, Vandy seems to have had this one circled, and the rivalry winning streak is historically long. So, it is a bit of a trap spot.
