2025 Detroit Lions: 0-0 Draft, FAs, trades? (15 Viewers)

Jameson Williams suspended 6 games for violation of the NFL gambling policy.

Why am I getting a bad feeling about Williams?
I think it’s pretty clear why

Williams said some stupid things last year and seems to be on the immature side. Still early but it seems he might be trouble.

I do agree he seems immature, that seems readily apparent (well before this news hit)

good thing they don't right the final chapter of our lives when we are 21

I like Tillman as an underrated WR in this class and a good fit with Jamo and AmonRa a few of these other guys are very similar to AmonRa - Flowers, Addison, Mims, Downs etc

Unfortunately the bigger body guys (Tillman, Rashee Rice, AT Perry, Xavier Hutchinson, et al) all have 3rd/4th round grades. Highly unlikely any of them will hit.

Class is full of sub-180 receivers, something like 9 of the top 15 are height/weight outliers.

Tillman is different to me. Had a great year in ‘21, including some games against good opposition where he was downright dominating the cornerbacks. ‘22 curtailed by an ankle injury I think it was. There was a bit of chatter that he’s higher rated amongst NFL teams than the fantasy community and might be drafted higher than realised just now.

Golladay was round 3, AmonRa round 4 it is possible with good scouting

that's a great point, you go back and look at his '21 tape he's a different player - def was playing through something all year

when is too early for JSN?
I love him but isn’t he redundant with Amon Ra?

Oh, because he played in the slot at tOSU we know he can’t play outside?

No, I don’t think he’s redundant. I’d rather have him than take a big X who plays small (Johnston.)

EDIT - I’ve heard this Slot v Boundary debate JSN debate & have heard a lot of analysts say he can play outside. There is also talk (from both ARSB & Ben) about adjusting St Brown’s alignment this year.
Also they are both kind of small and slow.

OK, I’m convinced, thanks for setting me straight.

I could not run a 6.0 40.

Brad Holmes makes a statement wearing a "Support women and girls sports" hoodie (y)

Pretty rare in today's managements.

Doubt it has many views but the Lions YT channel has highlights from a recent women’s conference at Allen Park. Sheila Hamp led it, they had every female employee there, brought in outside panels. Love that.

My daughter (14) was pretty geeked that Jalen Hurts agent is a woman, + 4-5 other women make up his management team. Representation matters. We have female NFL Assistants, referees, & as a father I love that sports are opening up to possibilities.

Both my daughters were college athletes, many of their female friends were as well. I take my views from actual female athletes views.

Part of the statement from Holmes from what I heard on the radio was not letting biological men compete against and take real women's roster spots. As Holmes himself has a young daughter, and Campbells daughter is a volleyball player.

Which today is a dangerous idea to express.

Lions started last year with 5 WRs on the 53 man. Once everyone was healthy, they often had 6 on the roster and dressed 5.

Gonna be super thin to start the year, even after drafting someone.

Four Lions suspended, two for an entire year.

-My heart and vibrations go out to all the Detroit Lions' fans, it's not fair and you all invested heavily in the team.
-I guess JaWi didn't learn from watching Calvin Ridley get suspended for an entire season

3-4 Lions suspended,
Looked up the other players, still believe Detroit can overcome a WR with just 1 TD in the NFL so far.

What a gut punch and just totally undeserved by the Lions, shame on these players for doing this. The fans deserve better.

Trade time for the Lions, which WRs in the NFL are unhappy with their contract and which WRs are entering Years 3 and 4 and are likely to see a big paycheck.
Recent trade history involving Hill, Adams and AJ Brown, there's different paths to get where they want, time to part with some precious draft capital to get a proven Alpha at WR
Teams might even call Detroit and see if they want to pony up and get a quality WR.

Jason_OTC on Twitter: For Williams that loss will be at least $382,906 in salary plus he will now have $6.877M in guaranteed salary ($5.37M for 24 and 25) vanish. #Lions

(Jamo ain’t getting cut so NBD but literally has no guarantees left as a result of this suspension.)

For CJ Moore, he just signed a $3M deal. $1.6M was a signing bonus. If he got paid his SB he gets to keep it, but if it was pending it’s gone.

5 Lions suspended, I can look it all up but after the up and coming WR, who are the other 4 and what impact do you all see immediately?

Cephus has some talent, but is always hurt. Probably wouldn't have made the roster if we had drafted a WR.
CJ Moore is mostly a special-teamer and deep depth piece
I've never heard of Berryhill. Practice squad, I'd guess?
The 4th is a Commanders player.

Should have kept DJ Chark. Reynolds and Jones are going to have to step up. I just don't see the immediate solution in the draft.

The probably could have kept Chark at 3 for 20. Sounds pretty good now.
Sounds like they knew about this a month ago when they fired the staff members involved.
Also think they knew about it when they didn’t sign Chark. I didn’t like it when Chark signed elsewhere. One of those reasons was that they were putting a lot of reliance on an unproven Williams. Lions offense struggled mostly when they were thin at Wr.

Also think this decreases further that they pick Jalen Carter.

Wonder how the NFL learned about these numerous violations? I think that may be a story in itself

Moore was a very good special teams player with the Lions losing him along with other special teams players to free agency adds up the possibility that they will not be as good on special teams this season

So let's start rethinking where Bijan Robinson could land...
Flip the script and fill in some of the missing pass attack with some short throws to a shiny new RB with the ability to break it at any moment.
Slot-WR. RB1, TE, WR 2...there's different ways to move the football and JW will be back after 6 weeks
I don't see JW being a huge factor now until perhaps Weeks 12-13 and beyond. Might take a little while for him to find his rhythm now.

I would start building a stronger backfield, don't think any WR in the Draft is going to be what you all need right now.
I do like the kid from Boston College but he's on the short side at 5-10.

For real - lost 3 of their ace STers from a year ago (Chris Board, Josh Woods, CJM)

(JRM will help but def down some key guys here)

Lions had the #1 overall ranking in ST last year

We should take Bijan at 1.18.

No. We should never draft a RB in the first round. How you think the Steelers feel about prioritizing the pass-catching runner over the OL?

To be clear, when I say never, I actually mean....never. Even if he is a Hall of Fame RB.

2011-2020 Total Wins Above Replacement Generated - Leaders by Position

You want to sell tickets, draft an exciting running back. They ARE super fun to watch.

You want to win a Super Bowl, never do that.

Say it louder for the people in back

That's taking 1 mistake and turning it into 2. If we are worried about the passing game, we should address it with a receiver.

That Brady stat is crazy. I always knew he had potential.

Jerry Jeudy or Courtland Sutton? I'm not the biggest fan though. Evans or Godwin? TB seems like it might need to blow things up. Corey Davis? Curtis Samuel?

Jerry Jeudy or Courtland Sutton?
Jeudy seems to be the one out of those two.
How good is Jeudy? I really haven't seen too many Broncos games to make a real assessment. He has QB/offensive issues so it's hard for me to get a great grasp.

Also, I think Jeudy some issues with his attitude-mindset? I thought I have heard Cecil or someone hooked in to Denver that he might not be totally locked in.

Sources: NFL suspended 5 players, including Lions WR Jameson Williams, for violations of NFL gambling policy.

Lions’ CJ Moore & Quintez Cephus, plus Commanders' Shaka Toney, are suspended indefinitely (at least 1 year).

Williams & DET’s Stanley Berryhill are suspended 6 games.

I thought Jeudy started to look really good towards the end of last season and have predicted a very good year for him coming up if Wilson starts rebounding with the new OC. Would totally be up for making a move for him

It's pretty simple really.

It's a difficult world at times, fraught with unexpected perils. Rather than get overwhelmed by all the potential difficulties, it is best to focus on the simple things that you can have a positive impact on, like family, friends and being at one with nature.

And RIP Vin Scully, he was truly one of the greats and he continues to be missed but never forgotten.

Gibbs. Elite pass catching RB. Ability to make splash plays ... until Jameson returns. 2nd round, not first.

kinda feels like a gut punch for the whole organization, and especially for Jamo.

Still feeling good about the season but the Ticket (local sports station) just immediately started in with the SOL talk earlier today :(

I don’t hate this idea but the cost matters. They have an absolute need for an outside receiver right now. Damn it Jamo…

Screw the media. They spin everything into a crisis. The Lions will deal with it. Jamo will deal with it. As soon as Jamo catches a few long balls in week 8, all will be forgotten.

Not defending Jameson. He should have known better. And not done this. No question.

But ... this is an incredibly stupid and hypocritical rule. And the punishment is insanely harsh.
And knowing the rule makes the decision to do it even more incredibly stupid.
We should have known something was up when he tried to change his jersey number to +5.5

True, but It also creates a sizable hole in the offense without their #2 starting WR
