2025 Detroit Lions: 0-0 Getting ready for camp. (24 Viewers)

The offense did struggle mightily when ARSB was playing only 10 snaps v NE and was incorrectly sent off after 20 snaps v DAL (possible concussion - was in the wake of the criticism following Tia’s multiple games of head trauma.)

They also scored 45 at home v Seattle in an early season loss sans St Brown.

I miss Chauncey Gardner Johnson so much man. This blows that he and Branch are out.

Johnson is done for the year and probably as a Lion. We hardly knew ye.

Branch already is one of the best on the defensive side. If Branch has to miss a game this is probably a good one to miss. Just hope it is this game only.

My daughter has 8 tickets through her work (Carolina) and invited my wife and I. I told her to just invite two more of her friends. But said we will meet them and tailgate.

To be honest I really don`t like going to the games in person that much anymore. I like it more at home on TV, or at a sports bar.

Of course I would go to a big game or playoff game given the chance.

Oddly enough the injury increases the chances he comes back

Hope Montgomery has a good game because my main RBs are him, Akers and Mostert. It would be nice if he can hold up for the whole season because he should be a steady producer.

I hope so. Someone has to buy up all those leftover blue ski masks.

Love what CJGJ brings to the table but bsm was one of the more hilarious misreads in recent memory.

One of more endearing qualities of Campbell’s team is they have an undertone of humility. Maybe it’s bc they were down for so long. Their staff doesn’t come from the college ranks where dominance is expected. All the former player assistants know it’s hard to win games in the NFL.

Some talk from Lions players this week about how much last year’s Christmas Eve debacle stung. But an even stronger motivator IMO is they understand this league will humble you quick if you come in unprepared.

Jets outplaying the Chiefs, Cards manhandling the Cowboys, Bears breaking their long losing streak on the road v the Commanders. Been a few mentions in player interviews about how they understand the Panthers mindset. They started out 0-8/0-10-1 two years ago, 1-6 last year. They know how hungry Carolina is rn.

tcb - job well done with some key players missing

another great game from Goff at home, Josh Reynolds stepped up, Monty and the OL were solid

great to see the turnovers though on the whole the defense didn't have their best day

Jamo is a hot mess

def happy to start the year 4-1

I tailgated with my daughters and we ended up going to the game as one of her friends has COVID.

Really had no desire to go but it was fun and loud. If the Lions have a home playoff game which they should the roof might cave in.

1. Goff is a pro, one thing about being at a game you can focus on individual players. TV only gives you their camera views. Goff just knows the pro game now.

Hutch is getting better by the game. Today he had a low shoulder drop swim moves that I had not seen him use before.

2. Monty is a baller, and tough! Glad they got him out early when the lead grew. Both Reynolds played very well. LaPorta is already a star TE.

3. Defense just swarms, they were all over the place. So many played well. Carolina scored but unlike gamblers I dismiss garbage points when game is decided.

4. On Williams: I focused only on Jamo every play he was in. The drop is an easy NFL catch 10 out of 10 times. 98-100.

2 times he lined up on the wrong side and Goff waved him back over. Really never seemed open or to get separation even on a couple deep routes. After the easy drop Goff really never looked his way too much. With Reynolds making difficult catches I understand. I really hope Williams was just rusty from being away a month because he did not look prepared to play in terms of routes.

Body language did not look good when he came off. For whatever reasons the kid just does not seem happy or excited. One thing is that he was a willing blocker and will mix it up, but that is not what he was drafted for. Hopefully better days are ahead.

With St. Brown healthy he is #1 target, Reynolds and LaPorta have Goffs trust, then having to get Gibby involved in the pass game the piece of pie left for Jamo might be small. Hopefully he has a breakout game.

Anyway 4-1 is a great start.

Dan Campbell says it doesn't look good for Moseley; MRI tomorrow.

On the bright side, Jahmyr Gibbs' hamstring injury "didn't seem awful", but Detroit wanted to be careful with the first-round pick.

first time starting 4-1 since.....

you guessed it, 1991

(of course they did start 5-0 - for the first time since 1956 - in 2011 but still technically true)

Looks they brought him back too early. The play he went down on was nothing out of the ordinary.

Those plant and cut injuries usually do not turn out good..players know and he looked in distress.

Forward down the field,
A charging team that will not yield.
And when the Blue and Silver wave,
Stand and cheer the brave.
Rah, Rah, Rah.
Go hard, win the game.
With honor you will keep your fame.
Down the field and gain,
A Lion victory!!!!!!!

Jonah Jackson had played 100% of snaps coming into today, but was on the bench the final few plays. He's probably out there if the game was hanging in the balance, but was spotted the Lions guard in a walking boot after the game:
Hopefully he will be ok but Vaitai will be available. This (along with protection for Ragnow and Vaitai) also is why the Graham Glasgow signing was so important.

Yeah they've constructed this roster with injuries in mind. They can weather any storm.

Jahmyr Gibbs, Amon Ra-St Brown, Brian Branch, Emmanuel Mosley, Zonovan Knight, Josh Paschal, Khalil Dorsey, Jason Cabinda, Matt Nelson, James Houston, James Mitchell, CJ Gardnder-Johnson.

Nobody cares. You go with what you have and don't worry about it, no excuses.

watching the replay

Chris Meyers' "Throwing it like a rich man's Matt Ryan" def my favorite call of the game

man is Ford Field rocking this year or what?

The noise level was unreal, early season game against an 0-4 team and the crowd was this jacked?

I have been to many of these types of early season games and none were like this.
It was like they were handing out Adderall to all the fans.

Best moment yesterday was giving Craig Reynolds the ball 6 out of 7 plays. After he ripped off his second chunk play (19 yards) down to the 5, he needed a breather but David Montgomery and RB Coach Scottie Montgomery waved him back in. After he scored, David ran down to the end zone and lifted him up in a bear hug while MJJ ran over to get the ball - his first NFL TD.

I was surprised it was his first ever NFL TD.

Hutch has 4 INTs in 22 games. Move him to CB?

Talked to a guy who coached Hutch in lacrosse when he Hutch was in 8th grade. I said was he good? The guy said no he was terrible, but he was big and ran around non-stop like a maniac.

I saw Hutch play a few times in HS, he played TE and DE. Theo Day QB was the star of his HS team. Hutch developed late.

Theo Day was the best HS QB I had even seen. 6-5 220, rocket arm and could run like a RB. Went to MSU, then transferred. Hutch was hardly noticeable in HS . amazing how it turned out.

Mosely tore his ACL, think he was coming back from the same injury last year
Detroit secondary is sustaining some major injuries right now

  • Amon Ra-St Brown*
  • David Montgomery*
  • Jahmyr Gibbs
  • Jason Cabinda
  • Shane Zylstra
  • James Mitchell
  • Taylor Decker*
  • Hal Vaitai*
  • Matt Nelson

  • Khalil Dorsey
  • CJ Gardnder-Johnson*

Normal stuff in the NFL. You have to construct the roster so you can absorb injuries, because they'll always happen.

Brad Holmes did that. They'll be fine, they are built to withstand adversity.

Agreed, though the number of injuries seems on the verge of getting a little excessive.

This defense could be at another level with Houston and Gardner-Johnson making plays on top of everyone else,

I'm so impressed by Holmes and Campbell. Not only collecting talent but they all have the same mindset and fit the culture.

Our secondary is very suspect right now.

Campbell says Paschal and Dorsey are both close. Says if he was going to pick one, it would be Dorsey. But they’re both very close, can come off Ir this week.

Campbell says it’s tough to say on Branch. Says it looked a little better today, but he wasn’t able to move as well as they’d like.

Jonah Jackson is "a little tender" and is swelling. Says it's hard to say where he's at this week this early.

On the non-injury front, praised a lot of players from yesterday, and said Jack Campbell will see his snaps increase. Pleased with where he is at.

(Aside - WRT PFF grade, they've given him some tough coverage assignments. He's not a disaster but clearly it's not his strength to run with move TEs. Good at dropping into zone. Potentially excellent run stuffer IMO. Has some Edge pass rush capability but again not optimal.)

Was expecting much more out of Campbell. First RD LBs should have some impact. Right now just seem like an inside run stuffer. Those LBs are a dime a dozen.

I was never a big fan but AA has won me over, he has really picked up his game. McNeil too. Glad Buggs is back and playing well, he brings some fire to the D when he is playing well.

First RD LBs should

.....never be a thing.

But that's another conversation. He's the future green dot helmet wearer, I want to see him get more than 30 snaps a game. One game they try him strictly in coverage, next game he's playing Edge rushing the QB, next game he is rotating in on run downs. I get that it's all part of the evaluation process but like a workhorse RB I think he'll play better when he's in a rhythm and they're not constantly asking him to do something new.

edit
  • run defense 73.9
  • tackling 83.7
  • pass rushing 47.9
  • coverage 41.2
Didn't he run like 4.65? He's never going to be Fred Warner. Use him the right way and he doesn't have to be.

I get it as he is a rookie and will get better. Maybe he does things that makes other better too, like being in the right places. Many times that goes unnoticed on that stat sheet.

The RB-LB first rounders still puzzles me but you are correct that is another conversation.

I’m with you brother. But they’re the experts, we’ll see how it works out for them.

I love the team but I’m independent in my thought; I don’t blindly support every move. I do fervently hope they succeed.

On the bright side, Jahmyr Gibbs' hamstring injury "didn't seem awful", but Detroit wanted to be careful with the first-round pick.
Looks they brought him back too early. The play he went down on was nothing out of the ordinary.

Last year was his left ACL, this year was right ACL. Just a fluke thing, feel bad for him.

There was one 16 year LB, Thomas Davis (2005-20), who suffered 3 ACL tears and came back to play at a Pro Bowl level each time after recovery. He's the unicorn. Cursory research, couldn't find anyone who suffered two and played at a high level. Many instances of players suffering from an ACL and returning to their previous form.

379 ACL tears in the NFL over an 8 year period according to one medical study - more than 47 per year. CBs were behind RBs, WRs, and LBs as the most common position. August is the most common ACL tear injury month, followed by October then September. By far the fewest occur in November and December. (Far fewer games in Jan/Feb.)

Anyway, hope he beats the odds, barely got to know the dude.
