2025 Las Vegas Raiders thread - ☠ Bye bye (again) Amari. Maybe we get a comp pick for him? ☠ (7 Viewers)

OMG THEY SPENT A 5TH TO RENT KENNY PICKETT FOR A YEAR!!!

Why am I the only one who's bothered by that? And where's my bartender? And...wait... this isn't my phone?!?!?!!
Pickett might be the long-term backup (O'Connell has done nothing to earn the job) and he's exactly the type of reclamation project Carroll likes. Also, I'd imagine Brady signed off on it. I've always felt Pickett got a bit of a raw deal. He went 14-10 as a starter, despite the worst OC in the NFL, and a bad OL. He looked better last year in limited work with the Eagles. Frankly, his resume is better than Darnold's going into last season.

Yeah, I am coming around to the Pickett deal. And to the idea that Tom Brady and John Spytek know more than I do about football.

I don't think it is a rental, it is more like a 5th round selection but with more upside. When you select a 5th, you are hoping you generally get a depth player that plays ST and maybe you get lucky with more. A quality backup QB is not what you typically are getting with a 5th. They have a year to see what they got. If they like it then they can resign and then let him and AOC fight it out in the off season. I see no downside to this for costing a 5th.

Who has been on a better team? Pickett, by a wide margin IMO.

And, has Pickett in any way performed better than AOC?

IMO the Steelers went 14-10 in spite of Pickett, not because of him.

AOC suuuuuuucccccckkkkkkkkssssss.
Yet somehow he has better stats than Pickett across the board.

And I kinda agree, but the same applies to Pickett.
AOC is like a bad golfer. Every once in a while he makes a great play. Otherwise he’s just bad. I’ve never seen Pickett play. Can’t be worse than the statue.

agreed. Time to move on after this short experiment. Let AOC heal and come back as the 3rd QB, but have Miller on speed dial to call up from the Practice Squad if he shows growth in practices.

New Swing Tackle:

Didn't realize how poorly Munford played this preseason. Disappointing end to the former upstart's Raiders tenure. I sense he never recovered mentally from losing his status to Glaze last year.

9 of 11 draft picks made the 53 and Miller made the PS. Good sign overall, but also perhaps indication of a. scholarships and/or b. **** incumbent roster.

Also hearing good/great reviews of Pegues and Tonka preseason. This draft was supposedly uber-deep at DL. Hopefully the Raiders found a couple mid-late gems with these hosses. On top of looking like legit defenders, it'll be hilarious to see @joey meltdown weeks when one or both of them vulture G/L TDs from Jeanty!

Meltdown might be overdoing it, but I will admit that I root for my fantasy teams to win more than the raiders after 2+ decades of this crap. ;)

It’s easier just not to draft any raiders…

At least not early. Hope AJ and Bald Bowser buck that trend.

I have Jeanty in 2 leagues (1 redraft, 1 dynasty), Bowers in 1 dynasty league, Meyers in 2 or 3 leagues (mix of dynasty and redraft). 1 Bech in dynasty and 0 Thornton or Tre but blind bid is next week and they’re both out there, so we’ll see.

More raiders than I prefer but I’m in more leagues than I should be as well so..

Claimed LB Brennan Jackson via waivers from the Los Angeles Rams; Signed OL Stone Forsythe; Waived T Thayer Munford Jr.; Placed QB Aidan O'Connell on the Reserve/Injured list; Signed WR Alex Bachman, RB Chris Collier, S Terrell Edmunds, DE Jahfari Harvey, WR Shedrick Jackson, LB Matt Jones, DT Treven Ma'ae, G Atonio Mafi, QB Cam Miller, TE Albert Okwuegbunam Jr., TE Carter Runyon, WR Justin Shorter, OL Laki Tasi, S Trey Taylor, CB Greedy Vance, T Dalton Wagner and S JT Woods to the practice squad.

Mellott not brought back on PS.
Sincere McCormick heading to the Niners.

What a roller coaster to be a fringe nfl player.

Cuts were pretty easy this year.

I would probably prefer Munford over this Forsythe guy,. Wouldn't be surprised to see Munford stick around elsewhere as a swing tackle, but this is all part of the new coaches/their guys thing that we just gotta deal with. And I woulda liked to see Sincere stay, but he's not a special teams guy, and if the Raiders lost three RBs, they would sign a new guy anyhow, not like they would give Laube 20 carries.

But those are pretty minor quibbles.

Sorry guys, it's been a long week and I need to catch up.

Did the Raiders really give up a fifth for a one year rental of Kenny Pickett or was that just an alcohol induced fever nightmare?
Your Pickett-for-a-5th posts are getting as old as my “congrats in advance” schtick ;)

It was a trade request, not a trade demand. Hopefully the Raiders only move him if the right deal comes along, or find a way to keep him content enough to play out his deal in a blaze of glory to set up his next one as a 2026 free agent.

I see a path to 9 wins. I also see a path to 5 wins. Catching the chargers after going to Brazil might help a touch. Hope so.

Can they win an east coast start time. Man that would be nice! LFG. F the pats
Agreed.

I see the Pats as a similar team to us (lots of young players. Established/proven vet coaches). Main difference is they already have their young QB of the future while we just have a hopefully-solid-QB of the now.

Need to win week 1 to set the tone, if this team is hopes to make any noise this year. Pats have reloaded, but they are unseasoned, similar to the Raiders. This is definitely a winnable game. X factor will be stopping Trey Henderson IMO - Raiders of old would allow that dude to go for 200 all purpose and a couple scores in his NFL debut.

Couldn’t be happier about Cooper retiring.

I think I wrote this in the Amari thread, but I want our receiving corps to be the vet (Meyers) + 3 youngins (Tucker, Bech, Thornton) + our 2 excellent TEs. Let’s see how that plays out and sets us up for the future without having Cooper in the way.

Glad I got my wish.

There is a stat from last year that our ability to recover fumbles was the worst in 15 years. The regression to the mean suggests winning 2 extra games due to fumble recoveries going our way a tad more

But do they get a comp pick?
We would have, but back to back WR signings that went onto retire is like multiplying by zero in the comp pick calculation.

No worries. Post June 1 signings don't count against the formula. Which other WR signing retired? Is Donte Thornton really that good?!?

Gallup did it to us last year

:pickle:

O line was rough. Smith made some bad decisions but played mostly well. What’s up with bowers?

And hopefully the dolts partied in Brazil. Flew home dehydrated. And will be sluggish. 😂
