When did Banks pass Membou in the OT pecking order?
I don't think anyone who does rankings has swapped them

It's just been one of those last minute news nuggets, hey don't be surprised if this guy goes top 10, that kinda thing.

But really, I don't think any of these OT are really separated by that much. Not like Ward or Graham or Jeanty at their respective positions. And I don't mean that everyone isn't ranking Campbell #1. Only that if one of these other guys turns out to be the best OT, that won't be as big a surprise as some other back being better than Jeanty, for example.

Which seems true at a lot of positions. Once you are past that first 5 or so players, seems like about 20 or 30 guys that have similar rankings.

When did Banks pass Membou in the OT pecking order?
The question is when Membou passed Banks. Banks has been a top 10 mock since the "too early 2025 mocks" posted right after 2024 draft. Membou wasn't a twinkle in Kiper's eyes at that point. Membou wasn't even mocked as a 1st until about March. I am always wary of a guy, especially OL, that suddenly skyrockets. It feels like someone's trying to create a narrative that doesn't exist. This isn't a D2 gem someone's uncovering, this guy played at Missouri, an SEC school, where is the three or four years' worth of tape against top competition? All anyone talks about with him are tools. Freak, mobility fluidity, athleticisim. All fun stuff but where's the production?

He's also got serious build limitations to play tackle - 17th percentile heights, 34th hand, 33rd arm, 25th wingspan. Again, physical freak, logging 97th percentile 40, broad, and vert and 75th percentile 10-yard split. He's particularly a good fit for a heavy zone/move blocking scheme which is what Kelly might bring in.

Banks is pretty similar physically (so is Will Campbell for that matter) but he's been producing from day one:

Draft Profile: Bio

Kelvin Banks Jr. established himself as a cornerstone of the Texas Longhorns' offensive line, culminating in an outstanding 2024 campaign that saw him capture both the Lombardi Award and Outland Trophy. The Humble, Texas native made an immediate impact upon arrival, starting an remarkable 42 games at left tackle over three seasons. Banks anchored the offensive line during Texas' historic transition into the SEC, where he continued to dominate despite facing elite competition.
A blue-chip recruit out of Summer Creek High School, Banks was a five-star prospect and the top-ranked offensive tackle in Texas. After initially committing to Oregon, Banks chose to stay home when Mario Cristobal departed for Miami. He validated the hype immediately, earning Freshman All-American honors in 2022 before collecting First-team All-Big 12 honors as a sophomore. His junior season saw him reach new heights, earning SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week honors twice while helping guide Texas to the College Football Playoff.

Banks' collegiate accolades are extensive, including multiple All-American selections, All-Conference honors across both the Big 12 and SEC, and finalist recognition for the Joe Moore Award. His impact was particularly evident in 2024, where he helped power an offense that consistently topped 500 yards of total offense, including a dominant 614-yard performance against UTSA and a crucial 562-yard output in a statement win over Florida.
I'd strongly prefer Banks or Campbell to Membou based solely on their established histories. All three have a Robert Gallery vibe that may be better suited at G than OT but that's fine by me if we get elite play at either spot.

Agreed. Could any of the top O line prospects be great? Sure. Could they be a total bust? Yes, and I especially think this about Membou and less so about Campbell. My strong preference at 6 is Jeanty or Graham over any of the offensive linemen. Hoping one of them is there.

Barring an Alex Leatherwood/Clelin Ferrell type reach I honestly will be happy with any pick at #6.

Graham, Jeanty, Membou, Walker? All good by me.
Agreed

I’d be happy with anyone from this top 7 or 8.

You two are setting yourselves up for loss of ****s when the Raiders take Banks tomorrow at 6 ahead of Membou and Graham.
I'd be fine with Banks too.

Point being is they don't reach at #6 and I don't think anyone will consider Banks a reach. Heck if his tape is as good as @Hankmoody suggests and can play guard or tackle at the NFL level I may prefer him over the other options.

Y'know, I never looked it up until just now but I always thought the username Hankmoody was a reference to the 1980 coming of age classic My Bodyguard.

I have no clue who any of these dudes are, honestly. I find out info about the player the raiders pick when the raiders make their pick and they do a quick video segment on that player :)

And I live in a state of disappointment with this team, so nothing will surprise or disappointment me more than I have been for the past 2+ decades.

Um….go raiders?

Saw a talking head propose that the colts trade up for Warren. Seems unlikely.
The reality is that only a few people have enough contacts that they have a decent sense of what is likely to happen and the rest are just talking because people like us eat it all up so we can keep yapping about things like we do here. No team is being up front and honest about what they are actually thinking and instead they are trying to give out vibes otherwise to manipulate the draft to their favor. Even for those that have a decent ear to the ground with the contacts across the league to have a sense enough that is worth taking seriously, drafts tend to have so many twists and turns that things happen that even the teams were not expecting. In short, it is fun to talk it all up on what we think will happen, what we want to happen and what others say will happen but it is mostly entertainment for us all. We are about to see what really happens. Strap in.

Because why not.... here is who says what.....
Kiper- Jeanty
DJ- Banks
McShay- Banks
Zierlein- Banks
Schrager- Membou

Other than Kiper, the rest have Jeanty being grabbed by the Jags and then most switch to Banks with Shrager going Membou instead.

So true.

Which reminds me that Shedeur should be available at #6. The draft "logic" machine has churned him all over the map, not sure I have ever seen such a polarizing player in the draft (maybe Aaron Rodgers?) but it's to the point that I believe literally nothing that is written about him.

He was an "unquestioned" top 2 pick coming into last season and stayed that way right up until the beginning of draft hype. He didn't do anything on tape last season to change that presumption. I think that is the logic that we should stick to and, therefore I will be very excited if the Raiders take him at #6.

I’m hoping someone else takes him ahead of us, so he’s not there. I’m happy with any OL or jeanty at 6. So expect a db or wr. 😂

Former GM Mike Mayock Names His Pick for the Raiders at No. 6

Former GM Mike Mayock Names His Pick for the Raiders at No. 6

It’s been just over three years since Mike Mayock was fired as GM of the Raiders, but he still has insights into his former team, and he was asked last week about the direction the Raiders are headed under Tom Brady, John Spytek and Pete Carroll.

In an exclusive interview with Betway, Mayock shared his thoughts on the Raiders’ offseason and praised the team for re-signing a pair his former draft picks.
“I think you have to be a fan of the moves they’ve made so far,” Mayock said. “What I really liked was how they solidified and improved the defensive line, which might be one of the better ones in the league. You extend Maxx Crosby, we drafted a kid named Malcolm Koonce who had eight sacks two years ago and what was one of the rising young defensive ends in the NFL.”

“[Koonce] got hurt last year, didn’t play, but they were able to sign him to a one-year, $12m ‘prove it’ deal. This kid’s exciting. If you pair him with Maxx and try and get something out of Tyree Wilson, that three-man rotation along with Christian Wilkins inside is outstanding,” Mayock continued.

“I think their defensive line and ability to rush the quarterback in a division that has some tremendous quarterbacks is a really good place to start. They signed an offensive guard, Alex Kappa, which allows them to move Jackson Powers-Johnson from guard to center, which is his more natural position that solidifies their offensive line. O-line and D-line is a good place to start, so I think they’re already an improved team from last year.”
As for who Mayock thinks the Raiders should target with the no. 6 pick, he believes the team should take a page out of his playbook and draft a running back in the first round.

“We drafted Josh Jacobs there, which was kind of the perfect fit for Jon Gruden and what he wanted to do. I think Ashton Jeanty from Boise State would be an ideal fit for what Pete Carroll wants to do. [In Seattle] Pete always ran the football downhill, physical, used play action with Russell Wilson. That was their identity, so I love the Ashton Jeanty fit there,” Mayock said.

To this point in the pre-draft process, no player has been linked to the Raiders more than Jeanty and the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s Vinny Bonsignore has been endorsing the potential pick for weeks.

Bonsignore believes the addition of Geno Smith only raises the odds Jeanty will end up in Las Vegas.
There was a chance Jeanty could go to the Raiders even without a clear starting quarterback on the roster, but with Smith now in the building, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a head coach like Carroll, who values the running back position, take the best running back in the draft next month.

If not Jeanty, keep an eye on North Carolina’s Omarion Hampton. He’s the no. 2 running back on many draft boards and Sports Illustrated insider Hondo Carpenter said last month that some teams have him ranked as a higher prospect than Jeanty.

Bandwagon for Banks at 6 is rolling hot last two days with McShay, Jeremiah, and Yates all making that call and Schrager calling Membou, but then hedging later with this about Banks in his mock...

Banks could end up going before Membou as the top tackle in this class. He has the better tape and is more consistent.

Seems there's been a leak from Raiders HQ - whether or not that leak is a smoke screen, we shall see.

He was an unquestioned top 2 pick not by nfl teams, but by the media and guys doing mock drafts. There are tons of guys that have that hype, especially QBs, that the hype fades. Carson Beck and Ewers were also considered top 5 picks a year ago. We start to learn a lot more about how the actual NFL evaluators feel about these guys the closer their actual draft gets. I would hate to pass on some of the other top players in this draft for Shadeur. A good way to continue to be bad is to continually miss on your first round picks like the Raiders have. No player is a sure thing, but give me a guy that has a low chance of being a a bust. Also, if you take a QB in the top 10 you better love the guy and be right cause you are tied to him for 3 years minimum. Taking Shadeur at 6 feels like it was pre-determined that you were taking a QB no matter what and that's how guys like Daniel Jones and Kenny Pickett get drafted so high. I'm fine with taking Shadeur at some point, but not at 6.

Apparently George Pickens and Breece Hall are available for trade.

Not sure I want Pickens with what I have heard about his attitude but if the Jets are looking at a specific player and are worried the Raiders may make a deal with someone else at #6 l, Hall and dropping back to #7 would be a coup.

A man can dream.

A Raiders fan can only dream.

I would take Hall and moving back one.... but yea... I think we are in dream land there

For the Jags, I keep hearing "they have to help Lawrence". You can help a QB by Oline, a target or a running game. I could not remember who the LT was for them so I went on and see "Walker Little". I have no recollection of his name so I obviously do not know his game. Is he really the LT that helps your QB? Are Membou/Banks better than him? If so, wouldn't you want to upgrade there? If not, then am I missing the boat on Little or are Membou/Banks just aren't that great?

I am wondering if this is the Jags trying to entice someone who really wants Jeanty to trade with them to get their spot and before us to land him. It just seems recently Jeanty came up strong for them when before not so much. It does kind of feel like something that might be floated to try to land a trade.

Yeah, I have been wondering why there is so much chatter about Jeanty to the Jags. They fished Cam Robinson to the Vikings last season and have two solid RBs in house.

The Jeanty talk feels like a smoke screen.

Wishes for tonight - don't take Sanders, in the unlikely event Jeanty doesn't go at 5 don't take Jeanty, trade back a bit of we can, and don't take Sanders
I have been stumping for a trench player but I absolutely recognize that Jeanty may be the most physically gifted player in this draft not named Hunter. Plus he is apparently a high character guy and absolutely loves the game of football. He's a great pick even if he plays a position that isn't exactly viewed at a premium in today's NFL.

Oh don't get me wrong, Jeanty is a great player and one of the few RBs in recent years worthy of a top half first round pick, I'm just a very much a build the trenches and then premium positions sort of guy. It'd be a fun ride and I would be entertained but from a pure value and what is best for the franchise perspective I would rather go OL - especially if we can get someone to jump up in the process

My thoughts as well. Jeanty looks great but there will be a very good RB available in round 2. Build the trenches. The SB is all the proof you need. Philly owned KC in the trenches on both sides of the ball.

Please. Please. No Sanders! Draft a project late or take a swing next year when there are much better QB prospects. This is the worst year that I can remember to reach for a QB. Odds are one or two QBs from this draft will be NFL starters at some point but I have no idea who they will be. Seems like each QB has at least one obvious flaw.

I'd like to build the trenches too, so I'd be fine with Graham if he was the pick. As far as the offensive line, the players are just not there at the top of this draft. If it was Campbell then fine, but he's likely going at 4. Jeanty or Graham will likely be BPA at 6 so that's who the pick should be. Last year Bowers was BPA and some people didn't like the pick because they had Mayer. Would anyone be happy if they passed on Bowers just to take an offensive lineman last year?

We should probably wait a few more years before finalizing the analysis on the 2024 draft.

Pretty fun mock draft tool here for those looking to distract yourselves even more today...

This is fun. The trades are crazy. I ended up with 13 picks, pit’s 1st and 2nd next year and buf’s 3rd.

Connerly
Henderson
Ratledge
Shough
And a buncha dudes I’ve never heard of
Did a more realistic one. Bears traded up for jeanty. Gave up their 1and 2.

Banks
Burden
Campbell
Makuba
Farmer

Only did 3 rounds

This thing is fun

Bowers was All Pro as a rookie. I think it's ok to say he was the right pick.

I prefer the trenches too but let me ask this... if you had the opportunity to draft a Tomlinson or a Calvin Johnson or another Kolton Miller.... which would you take?

Duh..leatherwood or Gallery.

Or………Anyone with a serious injury. Foot injuries preferred. Bonus points for life/career threatening injuries of the neck or heart.

Also…… DO. NOT. TAKE. THE. CONSENSUS. PICK.

Watch it be Will Johnson.

I'm good with Jeanty if he falls to 6. Also good with passing and taking one of Kaleb Johnson or Quinshon Judkins in rd 2 and/or Dylan Sampson in rd 3-4. Also good with passing on all these dudes for lots of trench warfare... Really, I don't care which positions they pick this weekend as long as the players come in and contribute at the level of where they are chosen (or better, obviously).

I've been messing with it for a couple weeks with lots of trades down. LOTS.

Wish it were as easy to do so in real life, especially this year where it seems the talent is pretty even from about #10 to #100.

Gallery was pretty close to consensus and McClain absolutely was.

Speaking of trade down - I wouldn't mind seeing them move down to grab monster Michigan DT Kenneth Grant. That dude is a DUDE, and would be the perfect compliment to Wilkins and Butler. I doubt it, but I am hoping Grant falls to round 2 with the depth of DT this year.
