2025 Las Vegas Raiders thread - ☠ Jersey number is SRS BZNS ☠ (9 Viewers)

I can't believe Ben Johnson agreed to interview with the Raiders. After being so picky last year and cancelling on the Commanders and Seahawks, he actually chose to take the first step with Vegas?

The Brady sway is unreal.
How do you know Brady had any sway in this matter? Did Johnson say Brady swayed him? It is possible that Johnson is interviewing to get experience of interviewing for an HC position. I am seeing reports that Johnson is also scheduled to interview for the Pats HC position, which is much more appealing due to Maye's presence.

Has a fired HC ever stayed on with the team that fired him? Id love to see AP stick around in some coaching capacity , hes great for keeping that Raiders spirit alive and that gritty ''come to play hard every week'' mentality

More important to me is the OC and DC. I hope we keep Graham and our defensive staff in place. We need to find a good OC to put a decent offense together. This defense, if healthy, has the ability to be a top 10 defenseand I think Graham can get that done with a healthy unit.
It begins...

We'll go into next season talking about how great the defense looks, and how if you look at it from the right angle O'Connell reminds us a little bit of Peyton Manning.

And, if they get a couple good bounces and if the new LBs, DBs, DTs etc live up to their draft position/scouting...they could sneak into the playoffs and make a run.

And, in week four, when they're 1-3, I will be shouting from the mountain top about tanking for college QB ABC and how we need to go after Ben Johnson's offensive coordinator because the Bears are 4-0 and Caleb is an MVP candidate.
Ya, ya, ya but the reality is that the defense did perform well the year before and we added an important piece in Wilkins only to lose him mid season. We lost our arguably third best defender before the season and starter after starter until we lost our star player. We all knew we didn't have a ton of depth to start with. It is perfectly logical and reasonable to expect that same defense... if healthy.... to be a top defense.

O'Connell didn't make enough progress for me to have any reasonable expectation of him developing into a reliable starter though that could very well be due to him being a victim of consecutive years of having crap for an OC that is fired and replaced with someone else mid year. I hate the lack of development for NFL QBs but at the same time we can't hope and pray that he is a victim of circumstance. Getting a new QB has to be our top off season priority after bringing in a good coaching staff.

I get it. You've only just moved into Phase One of Del Boca Raiders Off-season.

You'll be ready to move into Phase Two Del Boca Peyton O'Connell by June.

My bad, I forgot the fanbase is still in dream-land (the highlight of being a Raider fan).

Time will tell about McCarthy's situation, but why would the Cowboys deny the Bears permission if they weren't intent on resigning McCarthy?

Goff was a castoff in McVay's eyes, but he was the starter for a team that went to the SB. Is there a QB fitting that description available this offseason?

I doubt the Raiders' offense would become elite if they hired Johnson. One big reason is that the Lions' front office has proven to be much better at identifying elite talent in drafts. Raiders...not so much. Yes, they appeared to have a good draft last year so that stokes the fanbase's optimism. However, given the team's track record, I doubt they sustain that success. From what I glean on social media fans seem to think Brady will be the savior to the decades of mismanagement by the front office. Brady has no track record in this capacity, and I personally feel like this is a case of Mark Davis jock-sniffing. As a reminder, the Broncos hired Elway to work in a similar capacity and it was a disaster.

We can have a debate about whether the AFC west is tougher than the NFC north, but HC talent in the AFC west is far superior to that NFC north.
Not sure what offended you here, it's just a discussion. I didn't say we had a shot at Johnson, only that he's going to get a ton of opportunities. I just saw that he agreed to interview with us and I'm actually kind of surprised, I don't think we have a chance of landing him.

You may be right about McCarthy and he could stay in Dallas, I just think that if both sides wanted that it would already have gotten done.

Nobody likes you.

3rd verse, same as the 1st.

Eternal turnover. No consistency. If telesco was such a great hire a year ago, and the draft seemed solid, why fire him?
Frustrating

Telesco fired.

Knock on wood if you're with me?

Please no...
Jesus Christ what are we doing? This is tiresome.
Absolute stunner IMO. As much as I wanted to see Pierce go I wanted to see Telesco stay. He had some poor drafts with the Chargers but his first with the Raiders was top notch and he deserved another year for sure based on it.
I see Brady's fingerprints all over these two moves. I hope he's got a plan and that it doesn't blow up in his face.

So let's see: Tuesday, fire Pierce. Take a couple days/breaths. Friday, fire Telesco. Take a couple days/breaths. Monday: The Raiders have announced they are trading Maxx Crosby to the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for the a 2nd round pick in 2025 and a conditional 3rd round selection in 2026.

Similar to what will happen to whoever hires Rex Ryan as a coach this year, he wasn't a great hire. So, there is that.

Great question. After some soul-searching, I find that what offends me is any optimism surrounding the Raiders as long as Mork owns the team. This clown is as bad as Daniel Snyder and Woody Johnson. In 13 years under Mork's "leadership" the team has never won a division title or a playoff game (even Woody Johnson has won a playoff game). Mork didn't earn his place as an NFL owner, he inherited it. While he has been around football his entire life, he does not know how to run a team. I honestly do not understand how anyone could argue otherwise. Mork, is the decision maker doing the hiring.

Besides being born with a silver spoon in his mouth, Mork's decisions smell of jock-sniffing. It felt that way with JDR. It felt that way with Gruden. And it feels like that with Brady.

Besides those issues, he steers the team in drastic directions so there will never be any continuity. He will hire the GM and coach, who are supposed to work closely together on talent acquisition and drafting (Reggie and Allen). Then, he will dramatically change directions and hire a coach who also has the final say in personnel decisions (Gruden). Yet, he ignores Gruden's track record while drafting as the Bucs HC. Now it appears that he is going back to the HC has the final say in talent acquisition (has that ever really worked out anywhere?).

In between, those poor decisions he lets Bisaccia walk. Mork is a poor decision waiting to happen. Allowing him to run a NFL team is like giving an orangutan a loaded gun. Anything can happen and none of it is good.

Like clockwork, you folks come into this thread full of optimism about the upcoming year.

I feel like I am in the middle of the movie Don't Look Up where everyone ignores the real issue. Bottom line: It isn't going to change as long as Mork owns the team.

That said, I should prolly stop posting to the thread. I meant nothing personal by my posts. I just hate ****ty football, and I hate what this clown has done to the Raiders

Peace

There is zero reason to be optimistic about this team.

Someone has to prove otherwise before I stop being a Debby Downer in this thread.

If this series of events is showing that Brady is at the wheel then, ok…he obviously has great football knowledge as a PLAYER , so let’s see if he can do anything in a management/consultant role. PROVE IT.

You are not alone. I barely watched the NFL this season and didn’t even check on Raider scores until Monday’s most weeks. The team is broken. Really broken. It is among the 4-5 bottom feeders in the league and that isn’t changing anytime soon with such poor leadership and decisions. The Raiders haven’t found a quality HC, GM, or QB in decades and they don’t have the intelligence to make any of it happen.

Optimism is all we have brother, without that we're left with the stark realization of what this franchise has become. Don't stop posting based on that, we all get through it in here.

The good news is he has no offspring so queue up those immortal words - "So you're telling me there's a chance!"

You just don't ever pass a chance to pick at Telesco do you? We're in here celebrating a potentially monumental draft success (you asked a couple months ago how we feel about his first year - well the answer is ECSTATIC) and you're just digging up reasons to toss shade at the guy. He's only listed as a "pressure mounting" because of the Tom Brady Control Freak narrative which may or may not be pure ********. Give it a rest.

I posted an article referencing the Raiders GM in the Raiders thread. I didn't write it. I was surprised to read it. I figured Raiders fans might be interested, and it might stimulate some discussion.

Feel free to ignore it and/or ignore me.

IMO firing Telesco is good news.

A candidate like Ben Johnson is much more likely to come on board with a GM who has a shared vision.

It also suggests Brady has some influence and that can't possibly be worse than the last 20 years. Literally, not figuratively.

Don’t worry Hank. Chad and I have nearly come to blows over t(e years because of my realistic outlook on this craptastic team. They’re a joke. Have been for YEARS. It is what it is. Without fantasy football, I probably don’t watch the nfl at all.

The only thing that gives me hope about Brady is that how he evolved from an end of draft pick to a successful QB to an old successful QB. Hope he is still putting in the hard work of years previous and we get a Ozzie Newsome type rather than an elway

Not gonna cry over Telesco or even AP. Yes Telesco got Brock's Bowser, but he also rejected AP's love affair with Jayden Daniels. In the end both may be proven right in their own right, but there's a new Sith Lord in town who wanted neither and is asking that you kiss his seven rings. Smoochies. For nowsers.

Reports suggest that the Raiders are going hard about Ben Johnson and firing Telesco was part of that as Johnson has said he wanted his own GM with him.

Almost? Just wait until we are in the same room buddy

It's cruel to get my hopes up.

Is Brady really "putting in the hard work?" He is working as an tv commentator. How much time is he devoting to that as opposed to time devoted to the the team? This feels like another :tfp: waiting to happen.

IDK but the broadcast job cuts both ways. Even if he isn't allowed in production meetings he still has plenty of access to the inner workings of other teams. He is scheduled to work the Lions games for as long as they are in it. You think he won't have opportunity to speak privately with Glenn and Johnson? That's a lot more direct contact than any other team will have.

To further your point, which I fully agree with, I think it's a huge net positive. Brady didn't decorate seven fingers by being a half-way competitor. Most likely he is losing sleep and leveraging *every* angle to make his new team great (again). Mork let the camel's nose under the tent, and my prediction is if Brady succeeds bringing the Raiders back to glory, he will one day be the President of the General Partner. Al laid the blueprint for such a rise, and Mork has zero kids, plus a ginormous estate tax bill looming when his mom passes. He may have already seen the writing on the wall and was looking to hand off the team to the right person before uncle Sammich comes calling.

Mork let the camel's nose under the tent,
Huh?

before uncle Sammich comes calling.
What?

ETA: funny that @Chaka gave your post a 👍when I can barely understand some parts ;)

1. The metaphor "camel's nose" describes how a small action can lead to larger, negative consequences.
For example, if you allow a camel to put its nose under a tent, it might eventually put its whole body under the tent.

2. Massive estate tax bill coming due when Mark's mother eventually passes away.

3. Chaka gives everything a thumbs up that has to do with Morky Mork and the Flunky Bunch.

No Nevada tax benefit for morky mork? 😂

That's state income tax you're thinking about, Nevada has no state income tax. There's a federal Estate Tax that only applies to very large estate transfers - the first $14M or so is exempted as of the 2025 tax schedule. It's a flat 40% tax rate and the most recent valuation of LVR is about $6.7B (and massively growing) - so upwards of $3B tax bill would come due when Mork's mother dies (possibly more depending on how long she lives). It's been speculated on ad nauseum, most recently by Florio, that this might force him to sell, but we all know the rich don't actually pay taxes so who knows exactly how it will go down.

I have never heard that Camel’s Nose metaphor before right now. Learn something new every day…even in a Raiders thread ;)

I received two alerts from Sleeper within minutes of each other that said 1) Deion was very much in play as the next coach and 2) Ben Johnson was very much in play as the next coach.

Guess which one made me happy.

appropo of nothing...I have a weird feeling that Najee Harris is the Raiders starting RB next year.

(was just looking at him in a couple of my dynasty leagues and that thought occurred to me)

Of course, we probably need a coach and GM first before thinking about signing FAs, but I'm bored... :)
