2025 Las Vegas Raiders thread - ☠ Mork and Brady - wait what is this weird feeling that doesn't hurt my heart after a draft is complete? ☠ (7 Viewers)

I just saw that AP and his wife have filed for bankruptcy and he may have to forfeit his entire NFL salary this season, the story said AP could be working for free this year .

Thats wild

I haven't seen that detail.

They cannot come in and take your entire salary, not the way it works.
Waiting for my tires to get a slow leak fixed.... I quickly jumped into an article. A few years back, he invested in a car dealership and provided personal guarantee on the business which then went belly up. I forget which car companies... Hyundai and Nissan I think..... then sued him to recover those funds. $28 million for one and like 4 million for the other (not actual numbers, going off memory) and they filed to garnish his wages. They are filing bankruptcy as a result.

Im only going by what i read .

The motion goes on to state that two of those lenders — Nissan Motor Acceptance Corporation (holding a $23 million judgment) and Hyundai Capital America (holding a $4.5 million judgment) — recently attempted to garnish Antonio’s wages with the Raiders.
Antonio’s wife, Jocelyn, filed for bankruptcy in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Arizona on June 12. According to the filing, Antonio is subject to judgment amounting to more than $28 million. That is more than Pierce’s estimated net worth of $25 million.

Taking all these together, the situation might take a turn as if the coach is working for free this season since the money will be used to overcome the loans.

Yea, that is a reporter not knowing how garnished wages work or extrapolate AP's salary over his liabilities.

The bankruptcy is a way to eliminate or reduce those liabilities depending on the court decisions.

Garnishment can't take all wages away from someone regardless of how much they owe.

You and I have as much authority/credibility as the fan who wrote that article.

He doesn't owe tens of millions because he bought a crap load of Nissan and Hyundai's.... he invested in a business and gave a personal guarantee on the business loans, which means, if the company goes belly up, he has to pay back the loans. It did. So, now Nissan and Hyundai are trying to collect on the debt.

Depending on the type of BK the court will decide a % of the 28M that AP will have to pay back over a period of time. He will be allowed to keep his primary residence. Maybe a 2nd if his wife doesn’t live with him during the season. At least 1 car each. Most of his possessions, etc. BK isn’t the end of the world. The court doesn’t leave the filer destitute. He won’t be “working for free”. A significant portion of his income will be dedicated to making his BK payments, but he’ll be fine.

That being said, wtf! Every damn year it’s something.

Hopefully Tyree takes a step forward as a pass rusher. I heard rumblings that team might use him at DT on passing downs.
I think you can pretty much take his bulking up as confirmation that he will spend time at DT.
Maxx
Wilkins
Wilson
Koontz

Your move whatever team is in front of them
That looks pretty on paper, but they need some depth. Who looks promising at DT? Ideally one or two guys emerge and Tyree shows some ability to play DE as well.

Jenkins is not going to be a super star but he is a solid NT that helps plug that middle. Adam Butler is a good rotational piece that can add some pressure up the middle as well. Hopefully Young, Matthew Butler or Nesta can develop and contribute. But I think how great this DL is really depends on how much Tyree improves from last year. If he does and lives up more to his draft status with his flexibility to drop inside on passing downs then we are going to be dangerous. Maxx almost never comes out of the game so Tyree can spell Koonce or even play on earlier downs as Koonce is not very good against the run. Tyree, Jenkins and Adam Butler in rotating in the middle and that is solid too. Ideally, one of those young guys really steps up so we can really rotate them through and keep fresh in the middle but even if that doesn't happen, as long as Tyree takes a good step forward, top 3 DL in the league, if not top.

Ex-No. 1 pick JaMarcus Russell fired, accused of theft

JaMarcus Russell, the first pick of the 2007 NFL Draft, has been fired from his volunteer high school assistant coaching job and accused in a lawsuit of stealing donations meant for the school, according to multiple reports.

The firing apparently came several months ago but was just confirmed by school officials in Mobile County, Ala.

"JaMarcus Russell was relieved of his volunteer coaching duties at Williamson High School during the fall of last year," Mobile County Public Schools said in a statement tod WKRG Sports on Friday.

The former Oakland Raiders quarterback also is facing a lawsuit accusing him of taking a $74,000 check intended as a donation to the school -- his alma mater -- and keeping the money for himself.

According to reports, local business owner Chris Knowles said Russell approached him to help fund new weight room equipment for the school's football team. Knowles alleged Russell deposited the money into a credit union, immediately withdrawing $55,000 for himself.

Russell, 38, has now been ordered to stay away from the campus.

"Earlier this week, it was reiterated to Mr. Russell that he is not permitted to be around the football program or on school campus," the school district said in a statement to WKRG, after Russell reportedly showed up to a school football team event.

Russell played three seasons at LSU, where he threw for 6,625 yards and 52 touchdowns before signing a six-year deal with the Raiders worth close to $68 million.

However, Russell flopped in the NFL and is considered one of the biggest draft busts in NFL history. He appeared in 31 games (25 starts) over three seasons, finishing with a 52.1 percent completion rate, 4,083 yards, 18 touchdowns and 23 interceptions. His record was 7-18.

After he was released before the 2010 season, Russell and the Raiders spent the next several years in disputes over the contract, with the Raiders trying to recoup some of their losses. Ultimately the Raiders paid Russell $3 million in a 2013 settlement, making a total of approximately $40 million for Russell's three years of service.

Ex-Raider Chandler Jones pleads no contest, may avoid jail time

Tue Jun 25 10:40am ET
Field Level Media
Former Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Chandler Jones may not face jail time after pleading no contest to a domestic violence charge.

He received a suspended 90-day jail sentence on June 17, however he will avoid time behind bars if he stays "out of trouble" for the next six months and has no contact with the victim "with the exception of family court orders," according to Clark County (Nev.) court documents.

Jones, 34, was arrested in October on one count of violating a temporary protection order for domestic violence, mere weeks after he was arrested on the same charge. The Raiders released him following the initial arrest.

Jones signed a three-year, $51 million deal with Las Vegas as a free agent in March 2022.

Jones recorded 38 tackles, 4.5 sacks and three fumble recoveries in 15 games (all starts) during the 2022 season, his first with the Raiders. His signature moment with Las Vegas came in Week 15 when he grabbed a New England Patriots lateral in the closing seconds and returned it 48 yards for a touchdown to give the Raiders an unlikely 30-24 victory.

A four-time Pro Bowl selection, Jones has 511 tackles, 112 sacks and 13 fumble recoveries -- including two returned for touchdowns -- in 154 career games (151 starts) with the Patriots (2012-15), Arizona Cardinals (2016-21) and Raiders.

Jones was a first-round draft pick (21st overall) by the Patriots in 2012 out of Syracuse.
Because it wouldn't be a Raider off season without stories like these.

I saw a report Richard Seymour is finalizing a deal to become a minority owner/partner with the team joining his boy Brady. (posted in the right thread now)

I thought Brady’s bid was denied?
The combined Seymour-Brady bid would ideally be presented to ownership in October. Twenty-four votes are required, by rule, to approve the transaction.
Why would anyone deny this ?
Greed.

Not denied. But not approved….yet

Always open with a compliment , these guys are used to being the center of attention. Ive met so many famous boxers , world champs , they are more than happy to talk for a minute . Wait until between sets ...maybe as hes getting a drink . Make it brief and pleasant, he wont mind . Maybe a fist bump and some ''always a raider ...the nation loves ya man.''

I’ve met and interacted with zillions of famous people. It’s part of my job. I don’t want to bother anyone in the gym, especially when they have headphones in.

If someone ignores the universal symbol for "I don't want to be bothered, I'm focusing." (e.g. headphones, ear buds, etc)....then clearly they and I have worked together for the last couple of decades. Happy 20th anniversary in game development, I guess. 🥶

(Thought this was the pet peeve thread at first, but had already typed that all out. I'M NOT MOVING IT NOW!)

Gallup decided to retire.

Kolton Miller, Jalen Guyton, Darien Butler, Jake Johanning, and Jackson Powers-Johnson start camp on PUP.

Powers-Johnson hurt his shoulder in OTA's but being reported as not being a serious injury.

Came to add the comment about Gallup. Interesting decision. Only 28 with 6 years experience. Never reached the level of play many thought he was capable of.

I think this pushes Tre Tucker up the board a bit, he was the guy most likely to compete for targets. But with the likes of Adams, Meyers, Tucker, Bowers, and Myers, he likely wasn't going to see many targets anyway.

The more I look at this roster on offense, the more I get 49ers vibes from last offseason, where either the skill players are going to way underperform in fantasy, or the QB is going to way outperform.

OL injury question marks and RB talent the notable differentiators, besides the obvious potential difference in QB talent.

ETA: I needed to also mention the very obvious and potentially HUGE difference in offensive design and playcalling aptitude between Luke Getsy and Kyle Shanahan... :( ... Disregard most of my earlier thoughts. The potentially giant differences in coaching and QB make comparing this Raiders offense to last season's Niners a big stretch, at least for now.

The Raiders have signed WR Keelan Doss former Hard Knocks Legend. They also signed OL Corey Luciano.
Luciano saw action in two games as a rookie for San Francisco last season after signing with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent following the 2023 NFL Draft. The Danville, Calif, native played in 35 games with 13 starts in four years at Washington after transferring from Diablo Valley College. As a senior in 2022, Luciano received third-team All-Pac-12 honors after starting all 13 games at center.

Boy, Kermit the frog sure struck a nerve

Thats all Mahomes is going to see in the stands now , too funny
Funny….but stupid. Don’t poke the bear. Prove it on the field. Consistently win. Try that kind of thing for a change.

I keep seeing people say ''dont poke the bear'' and its wild to me . 2 things jump out in my mind when i read that, one is , i remember the ring around the rosy formation the Chiefs pulled out during a game , seemed like a disrespectful way to run a play , in my eyes. They poked the Raiders many times . Im pretty sure they way the Raiders thrashed the Chiefs Christmas day , complete with taunting, poked the bear with a sword from the Raiders emblem.

It`s called trash talking , it works wonders in combat sports , just ask Muhammad Ali and Conor McGregor , the kings of trash talk , getting under the skin of an opponent is proven strategy. Im sure in the name of sportsmanship in the league its going to be frowned upon, but we all know behind closed doors AP was laughing with the rest of the guys in the locker room , while saying ''ok, thats sum funny sheeeet ,but keep it in house guys ''

Yeah yeah yeah. Freakin win and win consistently, and then your trash talk isn’t the joke of the neighborhood.
I’m more of an Actions Speak Louder Than Words kind of guy, and our actions, besides one (admittedly AMAZING) win against them last year, has been a history of losing and mediocrity or worse.

So, yeah, feel free to talk trash against your opponent when they can easily point up and say “scoreboard” and you look like a fool.

(The general “you”. Not YOU, of course :) )

Ali and McGregor were just better than the guys they were fighting and liked to let them and everyone else know they were. It's not a proven strategy it's just a personality thing. Plenty of guys talk trash then lose.

Trash talking or poking guys doesn't help you beat them, but you do look like a fool when you lose.
