2025 Miami Dolphins - 1-4, Currently hold the #4 pick in the draft. (7 Viewers)

I will say that a full week of taking 1st team reps and having a full grasp of the gameplan is going to be great for Skylar Thompson. He was put into an almost impossible situation last Sunday.....and still had the team in position to potentially pull it out at the start of the 4th quarter. He had a terrible holding call on a key 18 yard scramble that killed a drive, had Sanders miss a critical FG, had his arm hit as he threw the ball that resulted in a pick.

Going to come and and call this right now. He is going to a do a solid job this Sunday and have a total of 3 TD’s (rushing/passing) 275 Yards passing and give us a chance. My primary concern is how bad our defense has looked. We are facing a very good offense this weekend. We made the Jets look like world beaters....imagine Cook, and Justin Jefferson....lord.

Gonna be a tough out again. And I say this regardless if Tua was going to play or not. The defense has been really subpar almost all season. Not the same defense we saw last season after the horrendous 1-7 start. Keeping Boyer around was not smart.....and not having your top two corners is painful.....but we cannot tackle and our pass rush has been brutal bad.

I watched Skyler quite a bit when he was at K-State. It actually shocks me that he could even make an NFL roster let alone be a starting QB for a team.

I haven't been able to see him yet at Miami - is he really looking ok? I just never ever saw him as a viable NFL QB when he was at K-State. Maybe a backup - maybe.....
Took a blowtorch to almost every team that was thrown at him, i get that it's preseason but almost NOBODY looked like him, combo IMHO of his age and that MM-iQ that everyone raves about.

Skylar did not look good against the Jets, he looked really good in preseason.
Hopefully with taking the full game install snaps he'll show that promise against the Vikings.
Disagree, the kid threw an interception, watched the Jets push it to 20-3 IIRC and then scored one of his own before Halftime

MIAMI DID NOT LOSE BECAUSE OF SKYLAR
Miami continues to lose games because they have no DEFENSE
How many points did the Jets score and what did they avg per week coming into Sunday?
How many snaps in practice did Skylar take all week before he was thrown out there after Miami ran 1 play?

He looked liked he didn't belong in the league vs the jets. Not a good sign

Ok, MoP I don't think Skylar looked good, you did and that's ok.
I do think we'll see a far better version of Sklar after seeing the aforementioned "full game install snaps" all week and a game plan that Skylar likes and plays to his strengths.

I didn't mention anything about the game itself.

I wasn't arguing with you, if it came across as a heated argument, not my intention. I want Skylar to succeed, sure everyone else does but the Defense leaves me thinking we could score 28-35 and still lose some of these.

And I see posts from others that clearly haven't seen a lick of him and that's always hard to digest when reading.
I'm glad the kid gets a chance to start. I don't think the Vikings are world beaters at all. I give Miami a fighting chance this weekend at home.

Admitted Skylar Fan here ... I picked him up "pre-season" on the idea Tua would not make the grade or suffer an injury where Skylar gets a shot at real playing time.
I think he is raw, but talented. I don't expect him to go blazing, but the WR weapons are top notch and offer him value in our hobby.
With Wentz as my current starting QB (yes, rebuild year), I think Skylar can play. I expect him to have some rough outings like previous talented QB's coming in, but MIA OL coould/should allow him time to make reads and hit targets. The NYJ Game was not ideal in his entry or warm up. I think the whole MIA Offense was off. I only watched about 15 min, by then it was well over.

-My son has never been a Miami Dolphins fan but Tua has brought my son closer to me because he wanted a Tua jersey and liked the Miami Dolphins finally. They are an exciting team to an avg NFL fan right now. Many of them don't know the miserable history the way most of us do. For the first time I can remember, Mrs MoP actually cared and wanted to watch the game with me when it was Primetime Thursday and you can imagine how that went watching Tua wheeled off to the hospital. Tua is making it really rough on the old MoP, I can't just ignore him or look past him, he's got a fan base in my living room now.

This Twitter video of Skylar and what he did when he found out he was starting this Sunday hit a note with me and made me reflect.

If Skylar Thompson happens to pull this off on Sunday, I'm ordering a new jersey to show my support of the team.

Tua is OUT of Concussion Protocol but will NOT take the field this weekend.
Teddy B never had a concussion and was in protocol for whatever reason all the way thru the start/middle of this week and he's cleared to play

3rd String QB Skylar Thompson has been deemed the starter for this Sunday vs the Vikings, in theory he has elevated from the 3rd string to the 1st string Quarterback

Yes/No? What are we doing this weekend vs the Vikings?

Skylar has a 1 game audition to be the unquestioned backup in 2023, and possible starter given Tua's injury history. The pass blocking on the oline might be worse than in 2021 (if Armstead is out), so they could rely on the running game. These circumstances are a better way of evaluating a QB than looking at Tua's or Mac's performance while QB at Alabama. Skylar did some good and bad things last week - but displayed good pocket presence. Odds are he has a good chance to save Miami $$$ at the backup QB position for the next 3 years when Miami will have cap issues.

I think that the Dolphins are basically conceding the Vikings game. If Teddy can play, surely he goes ahead of Skylar to give them the best chance to win. It's possible that they've decided that the Vikings are going to beat them no matter what, in which case they might as well get a look at Skylar.

Cousins is going to have a huge game.

A full week to prepare a game plan for Skylar, I think MMcD will feature the run game and moving the pocket.
We’ll see a much different Skylar than last week. His timing, which was off last week, will be markedly better IMO and allow him to attack a team that allows a 70% completion percentage.

I don’t think we’ll see the second coming, however we will see a performance that shows he belongs in the league. The only way Teddy plays is if Skylar is trash so frankly don’t think Teddy sees the field.

my biggest concern is they activated 2 OL which may mean that Armstead will be out.

I'm operating under the assumption he misses this week and might be out fro a few more weeks. Not going to rail on the guy or get buyer's remorse yet, I'm more excited to evaluate McDaniel and Skylar's ability to find his key weapons in Hill and Waddle today. If he can do that, Miami will keep this close.

he’s out. Let’s hope he’s back against the Steelers

Smythe OUT
Gesicki could be a sneaky play today or sleeper
Also think Edmonds will see more touches with Gaskin Inactive this week.
Good call on Gesicki, MoP

Skylar indeed looked good with a full week taking first team reps. You absolutely saw why they protected him kept him on the 53.

I mentioned it in the game thread that it‘s a shame that Teddy got jobbed last week because I’d like to see him with a full week of first team reps. I hope a full week Teddy is better than what we saw today

Noah had a rough PI at the end of the 1st half then a couple nice PBUs in the second. Not what they drafted but perhaps salvageable

Needhams injury is worth paying attention to. He’s key in this D.

Most notably… Tua’s back against the (perhaps Mitch led) Steelers and I can’t wait. They are a different team with him behind center.

Same ****. This OL is hot garbage.

Skylar was actually balling…5 flags in 7 plays….killed a great drive.

Then they can’t protect him.

You think Tua is going to make it thru a season?

God no.

They are the same team. They can’t pass
protect.

Great GM and scouting department.

Armstead is a ****ing tomato can. Missed almost all of 2021. Missed all of camp and pre season.

And now can’t stay on the field. Great use of our money.

Brandon Albert part 2.

Turn Hard Rock into a Parking Lot….please.

For how long. Serious question. Tua is a china doll man.

They can’t pass protect. At all.

They need to activate Teddy and Skylar if Tua starts. Skylar had a gash near the thumb from what I could tell. Waddle said he's fine.

Some winnable games coming up, Steelers, Lions, Bears, Browns with Brissett, Texans.

The NFC is not deep, so even with the loss by SF, they're a playoff team and our draft pick from the Lance trade is currently 1.19.

Agreed. Withthis line we need two QB’s on stand by. Losing Needham is a killer. Byron Jones may not come back anytime soon either.....it’s a mess.

This pretty much sums it up.

Doesn't matter who the QB is - they going to get killed.

When was the last time the Dolphins had an average OLine? The Pennington years?

Just don't understand how they can't get the Oline right? It's been a decades long problem.

The second possession may be the most brutal in franchise history. They were pressing like crazy, I can't help but think that maybe T Armstead would've said something in the huddle to calm things down and wish they'd called timeout to settle. Skylar was impressive as he showed nice pocket awareness, escapability, and kept making plays

Tua will go from a Primetime Thursday Night game and being wheeled out with a concussion to...
Sunday Night Football with CC and Mike Tirico clutching his rosary beads, he will bring up the concussion on Tua at least a half dozen times before Tua takes a sna, after he takes a few snaps, after a few throes, again in the 2nd Half if Tua isn't in Concussion protocol already.

Oh yeah this should end well...who is writing these NFL scripts? Primetime game 1st week back after leaving a Primetime game that had Bad Morning America running the highlights on their morning feed, that's not good.

Just hoping for the best. Tua being back will help......can he stay on the field? Will he have happy feet now? Who knows.

I just want to win.

IF Tua starts and finishes the game in 2022, his 3rd year as an NFL starter
Miami is 4-0

Joe Burrow 4-3
Justin Herbert 4-3
Tua 4-0...Team is 4-3

We can spin this however you like, I'm pretty transparent with you all and i have chosen to give Coach McDaniel a lot of slack based on the things I have observed since he arrived, most of it really good and that matters when I am thinking about pointing out certain things.

There is plenty to discuss about McDaniel last night, thought it was his worst coaching performance thus far BUT he was also dealing with a lot of outside noise all week and for several weeks due to Tua so I am willing to cut him a lot of slack last night.

Tua threw a number of balls that would be interceptions normally. I counted like 4 last night that should have been INTERCEPTED and were not for whatever reasons.

NO TURNOVERS by MIAMI
That's why they won the GD football game, a handful of plays or less is what decides most of these football games in the NFL if you watched RedZone all day yesterday like I did waiting for 8:20 to roll around last night, almost passed out in the 2nd Half. I did think the Defense played their butts off last night. I was happy for Igbo at the end of the game, he needs to understand defenses will go right at him, if he can pick one off every so often even if he allows a few catches, that will go a long way towards him becoming somewhat valuable to Miami.

I'd like to hear what some of you thought about the game last night. 13-0 early, we should have been up 17-0, 21-0 but it was 13-0 and our Offense went into the tank the rest of the evening but the Steelers bottled up a lot of our offense

Mostert 16/79
Chase 7/17

I've seen enough of Edmonds,($600k to cut in '23 vs $6M Salary) would like to see Gaskin start getting some touches as the RB2, Chase was a free agent, a roll of the dice but he isn't fitting into the offense that well, plenty of options in the off season, I hope they bring in another 4-5 guys and let them duke it out in the South Florida heat next summer.

Hope you all are not feeling too bad on Monday Morning because a WIN is a WIN!
Assume the Pats win tonight

Buffalo 5-1
NY Jets 5-2, lost their best weapon on offense right now
Miami 4-3
NE Pats 4-3 likely after Chicago tonight.

Amazing division right now

Was at the game MOP.

Pretty much agree with all your thoughts.

Josh was not good last night. Made several questionable to downright crappy play calls.

Tua was not sharp despite what the numbers may say. He missed a lot of guys running free because he locked onto his first read all night. It was quite infuriating to be honest. This should have been a blowout win in the neighborhood of 28-10.

They picked on Iggy all night. And he responded with the biggest play of his career. Maybe that was the watershed moment he needed to springboard his confidence. He is obviously an elite athlete. Now can he just be a good CB for us? We need him to be. Especially when Jones gets back. He will slide to the nickel but at first….the team will ease Jones back into the lineup.

I actually rather see Ahmed over Gaskin. Far more explosive amd can do all that Myles can but with more explosion. Edmonds simply is a fish out of water in this outside zone run scheme. He came directly from an inside zone scheme and said so in camp. He simply is not working out and his confidence is shaky at best.

A win is a win. We will take it. Next week in Detroit and then at Chicago….gotta be 6-3 when the Browns come to town.

Ugly as it was, I'm happy with the W.

Chase hasn't lived up to billing yet (I'm holding on to some hope, it's a long season), but the missed catches/drops were more disappointing than the rushing attempts.

Tua's timing was very clearly off. Not all that surprising it being his first full week since week 3.

MMcD had his worst game and being able to call it a learning experience teaching moment while getting the W is a win in of itself.
Pitt did their adjustments and we didn't see the same type of halftime/in game adjustments that we normally get.
I didn't mind the 4th down attempt to go for it, wasn't a fan of the play call. The late game play clock could've been the killer, but it wasn't.... teaching moment.

really hope Brandon Jones left leg injury isn't a season ender... that back end group is getting thin.

Noah has made some progress this year, obviously getting picked on with X on the other side. He's held his own for the most part.... light years ahead of the last couple of years.

Being at the game.....it as more than just timing. Bad reads.....far too many actually.

Agree.

Hill and Waddle are two guys very few QBs could overthrow. Tua seems to make throws for which they have to slow down or come back to get. Let it rip, dude. Do these coaches actually see this or not?

Yeah....also he simply was locking onto his first read almost all night. Especially after the first quarter. Many plays we saw guys running free....all he had to do was look. And the OL did a very solid job giving him time last night. What a huge difference having Armstead back. It as night and day.

I expect him to be better (Tua) next week. It was a while since he has had game speed.

A win is a win. We will take it. Next week in Detroit and then at Chicago….gotta be 6-3 when the Browns come to town.
I'm not optimistic about Detroit this week.
Dan Campbell is in a very bad mood and he was the interim head coach for Miami when they fired Dumbo from Green Bay.
Campbell was a Miami coach from 2010-2015, 6 seasons.
Campbell led Miami and whooped up the Titans 38-10 in his debut and followed that up with a 44-26 rout of the Houston Texans back in 2015.
I think Miami is in for a rude reception in Detroit, at least 3 kneecaps will be bitten in the game.
