2025 Miami Dolphins - 1-6, Currently hold the #2 pick in the draft. (30 Viewers)

Say it any way you want to, but this D is LEGIT. 4 games to go, 3 at home and the Baltimore game may be for the first round bye.

We've been highly critical of Greer but Miami has a "next man up" mentality on some of these positions that it's uncanny. 8th different O line configuration to start the game, ninth during the game and we still rack up yards "in the air and on the ground".

We are all pessimists and waiting for the other show to drop, but this team has a shot. When was the last time we thought that? The Wanny years before Brady took flight?

Yes, much of this I agree with and the other shoe did drop.
Losing another LB the very next week after Phillips went down, people can dismiss Jerome Baker but he was having a solid year
Maybe he's not a Pro Bowl level guy but he was solid inside for Miami, Duke Riley steps in now

-Long needs to hold up inside, that's all we got right now.
That LB-Tindall they drafted last year in the 3rd, if there was ever a time to start making an appearance, now is the time.

-OL has had injuries all year, watched Liam Eichenberg do his best this past week, Tua had loads of time to set up and find Hill down field, the 2nd TD was just a thing of beauty if you see it broken down a couple times on ESPN/NFLN, he actually allows Hill to run inside the numbers and leads him back outside away from the Safety, you hear Tua describe it in the post game press conference and it's something we should take time to admire and applaud.

-I know that it's just Washington and they sent their best Edge guys packing for future picks, I get all that but Miami looked like a well oiled machine, much of it revolves around the OL which seems to be able to mix n match at LG, be it Wynn-Liam-Cotton-Jones, they all seem to get a turn and do admirable work. We definitely have depth but we all take a big gulp when we hear Eichenberg is going to start somewhere on there. Those 4 names I mentioned plus Kendall Lamm who can fill in when needed at LT, this is the first time we should all be able to say we have some depth where we need it most. If this OL can allow Tua about 2.5 seconds to set up and fire the football, good things happen. That 60 yd bomb to Hill on their 2nd connection, that play did not take very long at all to set up, Hill was barely off the screen and Tua launched it way down field about 40+ yds and Hill did the rest, I cannot say enough nice things about all the moving pieces involved to make that play look so beautiful. From the Coaches calling the play, the OL setting it up, Tua knowing exactly what he was going to do and the Cheetah making it look easy.

The replay was not shown in slow motion and close up, I'm assuming the worst and that we likely will not see him again this year

I didn't watch the game but it sounds like Achane got a lot of action later in the game (Garbage time stats). How as his usage this past weekend? Raheem is the true #1 still?

My view, as someone with shares of Mostert and Wilson without any of Achane:

Mostert is the #1 option still, but there is a lot of overlap between him and Achane. Each time Achane has been healthy it has felt like they had plays designed and ready to go for him in the redzone. Wilson is more skilled running north to south than either, so he can also get hot if teams continue to try and sell out to stop the outside zone that Mostert and Achane really excel at.

When they are all healthy, I actually think Achane is the most valuable start
 
Wk 16 vs Dallas, XMas Eve at Hard Rock?
-Since playing Philly they are unstoppable throwing the football
40+ pts a game 4 weeks in a row...but they must play Philly and a desperate Bills team the next 2 weeks, they could easily be 10-4/9-5 when they see us
Might not mean as much to Dallas by that point, they easily cruise in as the top Wildcard if they cannot catch Philly or fall behind 2-3 games

Wk 17 at Baltimore will definitely matter and I hope we compete well up there, might see them in the Playoffs at some point.

Wj 18 vs Buffalo looked so scary a month or two ago...Bills might not be even be in the Playoff hunt at that point
Miami might be resting front line starters much of the game, seriously

-All I'm saying is that these 3 games looked like murder's row for us as we opened the season but now I'm not scared to play these games and think Miami will be just fine.

When the Miami Heat won with Shaq and Wade in '06, they had a horrible win-loss record vs Playoff teams in the regular season, like 8-23 or something.
It would be great if Miami was 12-0 and beaten every team put in front of them and had wins over KC and Philly...
And people would still find fault with the way they win football games.

The '84 Miami Dolphins were the best team Miami fielded since the Dolphins of '72 and '73
You can knock their victories in '23 if you want but does anyone remember how subpar the Patriots, Bills, Colts and Jets were back then?
The Baltimore Colts made 5 teams in the East back then and it was 8 fairly easy games for Miami, we were clearly better in the early 80s over all of them.

-But that is how far back I have to go to find a Dolphins team I felt this excited about
The early 90s teams with Marino, Webb-Simms on the OL, Cox and Cross, Troy Vincent and Louis Oliver, that was a fun team but we got pummeled by Buffalo every year.
You never felt the type of confidence in those teams that you feel watching Tua hit Tyreek Hill for long TDs stretching the defenses to allow these gashes in the run game.

OK, maybe it hasn't quite worked out yet on the road in Philly and KC, so what? Those are the AFCC and NFCC from a year ago, great comparison if that's what we are being held to.

Mondays haven't felt this good during the season in a long time, it seems to be happening often

Achane got action on the 2nd 3rd and 4th series in the first half, and scored a TD on the first drive of the 2nd half. Both Mostert and Achane were in the backfield on several plays, but Mostert got more action early. I was surprised they didn't keep Wilson in on the entire last garbage time drive ... it was Achane for 6 straight carries, then Wilson for 4 carries, then Achane for the last 2 carries and TD to make the score 45-15.

I think Achane's role as a receiver may increase. He has good hands, and can make people miss.

I'm sure you saw it already, but Achane could have had an enormous receiving TD when Tua looked to Hill. He completely cooked that LB off the LOS and was wiiiide open.
 
PFF had Riley and AVG as Miami’s best players on defense. tbh, I thought Riley looked better than Baker.

And UDFA TE Julian Hill the 5th best on offense, behind Tyreek, Tua, Hunt and Jackson.

Jackson is making $$$ with each game. Julian showed in the preseason that he can block, if he can continue to make plays in the passing game, that will help when teams try to take away the deep passing game.

Looks like Baker will miss a couple games, certainly will want to rest him for the next 7, 14, almost 21 days until Xmas Eve vs Dallas and I might skip that one for him as well.
MCL sprain from what i can tell, something to do with MCL, just fortunate it's not a complete tear
Grade 1-Under 3 weeks
Grade 2+ Looking at upwards of 4+ weeks
Baker might be done until the Playoffs unless he is truly needed in a few weeks.

I've watched Riley enough, he's a back up for good reason. They will try and run right at him which is where he tends to fall short.

Austin Jackson?

-Yeah on a contract year he is making a market for himself. Not sure what Miami will do with him.
Market value is running North of $10M per year, something like 4yr/$45+M is going to be thrown at him.

-I'm going to stop myself from going position by position and the cost we are looking at going into '24.
Jackson is one of those that Miami will either have to franchise or pony up a lot of money.
I would rather try and keep Connor Williams a couple more years if not longer.
Armstead and his production down the stretch here will impact the outlook of this OL going into '24 mightily. But they likely must keep him again next year.
Hunt, Jackson and Williams can all walk, Wilkins will be a UFA unless franchised...I gotta stop thinking about this.

First time since 2001/2002

And honestly I have said this many times.....best Dolphins team since 1994. Easily.

Defense has finally come together and low and behold the moment Ramsey came back it all started to really click. Our pass rush has become fierce since his return. Of course!!! We have a shutdown corner.

We truly just gotta stay healthy.....Need Javon back. Van Ginkel is a beast.

And yes Grier has done a good job assembling this group.

And whoa......Austin Jackson...the dude finally arrived and is a stud RT. That is a major factor in all of this. So Grier hit on 2/3 in that 2020 draft because obviously Tua has settled in as a upper echelon QB in this scheme and with this coach and culture.

It’s great.

However we can’t afford another major injury....we really can’t. SO please football gods.....let us have this.....just one time. The window is absolutely now. This season. Cap hell coming in 2024. And we are going to lose some key pieces from this defense. SO the draft needs to be on point again in 2024 and beyond to keep this party going.

I know it’s been decades since we’ve had something to root for but let’s take it 1 game at a time.

The Titans - prime time on Monday night.

Thoroughly enjoying this ride - so much fun to watch.
 
9-3 first time since Wanny and Fiedler, biggest road margin of victory since 1978. I was driving home from SC and forced to listen to the Washington broadcast on Sirius because I couldn't find the Miami feed. God awful, there was so much back ground noise you could hardly understand what was being said. But when that is the only complaint it was a good weekend. I feel that Ravens game is going to be huge. Need to take care of business the next two weeks and stay healthy, then I think they will need to win the Ravens game and at least one of the Cowboys or Bills games if they want the #1 seed. 13-4 should do it. Ravens would have 4 losses in that scenario but we would hold the head to head, Chiefs aren't playing well, I think they will drop one more, Jags look like Lawrence could miss a game or two and they have Browns and Ravens coming up.

Perhaps. Biggest issue is winning these next 2 weeks. People keep doubting MIami bc they havent beaten anyone (whatever) but I much prefer a team that beats who they are supposed to beat (Handily) and then I'll take my chances with the teams that are in our tier.

being 11-3 with Dallas Baltimore and The Bills is where I want us to be. I'm cool with 4-1 down the stretch, and 2-1 in those last 3.

Edit to add: I think (hope) that maybe Hard Knocks will keep Miami fromthe "look ahead" game. The Jets game down here seems like the perfect "trap" game before we hit the home stretch. Miami needs to put the Jets and Titans to bed.

2 players are likely eligible for this one spot

Isaiah Wynn who started the first 7 games at LG and did a good job but we have also seen Cotton/Jones and even Eichenberg fill that role, still I like the extra beef on our roster with Wynn
EZ E has been absent much of the season and has had very little impact since they drafted him although I am interested in '24-YR 3 from him.

I would say if Wynn can do anything the final 4-5 weeks and into the Playoffs, use the final IR spot or activation on Wynn.

I don't think any of us are counting chickens.

The last Dolphins Super Bowl trip was over three years before I was born. It's been over two decades since they even won a game in the playoffs. I've never been to a game in Miami. I've been to a couple of Panthers playoff games here in Charlotte that were completely electric.

Miami is capable of a special run, nothing wrong with planning out how you can see it if they get to the levels. I'm not going to apologize for strategic, cancelable bookings to see the Greatest Show on Surf in the playoffs.

The conference still goes through KC (another stadium I want to visit).
 
The Miami Dolphins have extended Austin Jackson for another 3 years /$36M with about $20M guaranteed

-I've been wanting for weeks to start hearing the sound of Stephen Ross' checkbook being opened and locking up some of these guys.
-No reason to wait until the off season to start extending Hunt and Williams inside as well.
-Also would like to hear Wilkins has been extended but we might have to use a franchise tag along the way in here somewhere

Dolphins extend RT Jackson through 2026 season

The Miami Dolphins have signed offensive linemen Austin Jackson through the 2026 season, the team announced Thursday.

-Tua's blindside firmly in place for another 2-3 years, that seems like a wise move
-Armstead is pretty locked in, we'll need a quality back up at OT
Maybe the Draft will unearth the next great Left tackle for Miami and cut some cost for a couple years.

1st World problems.
9-3 but we know who our QB is, WR1, WR2, Both starting RT and LT, we have some pillars in place

Great news on Austin Jackson who has earned EVERY penny of that contract this year. AT only 24 years old - feels like he’s been around forever. They stuck with him for years and God Bless Butch Barry once again.

What a steal of a deal. The latest RT deal to a notable player was Steele, whose AAV is 16.5Mil

I also thought the Phins got a little hometown discount here, not that Jackson is from South Florida but he obviously likes it here, you add in how the taxes favor wealthy folks in Florida, this is almost a no brainer for a lot of these guys. I would bet Jackson easily would have had 3-4 contracts/suitors in front of him and maybe they would have been similar in value but it feels good to get this done ahead of time, one less player they have to negotiate with. Fills up a potential empty hole at Draft time, nothing but positives here that I can see. Would like to see him finish strong now that he knows here he'll be for the coming years.

-I'm actually happy for Grier that this pick is working out for the Dolphins, and Right Tackle when you have a lefty like Tua is even more important than on a lot of other teams.

Agreed. It's time for Miami to resign a lot of these guys if they can. Most love playing for McDaniel and living in SoFL so maybe we can get some "value" contracts in there.

Draft needs (lets go there) are a LT, some linebackers, a D Lineman, and a "developmental QB" (I think one of these should be drafted every 3rd year). Back end of the D seems set for this year and next. Same with RB and WR. TE for those who think Miami lacks a Kittle but I don't think that is a large part of this offense.
 
Jackson's deal tells me that finally we have an organization and coaching staff that players want to play for. Plus, winning certainly helps. Don't have to leave Miami anymore to chase a ring.
 
I'm a little more torn of the Jackson deal. This is the 1st season he hasn't been a gigantic liability, and even then he's been fine, not great, but fine. He falls into that category of, "is he developing, or is he having a contract year breakout?"

Just feel like Jackson is the Dolphins 4th best OL is all.

Couldn't agree more on getting a young QB for McDaniel to have some company on the sidelines, see if they develop behind Tua.
I like Thompson right now but he'll move on, he had some great game experience his Rookie year last season.

-Honestly.I haven't thought about the Draft much.
LT, RT locked up and I would imagine they sign Williams because...they are/were paying him $8.5M per yr, he's worth about $13M per season right now and he needs extended years, it's not that big of a pay raise so I think they will take care of him, Tua never looked so good before he arrived. Hunt is the big question, Top 40 pick IIRC, would like to see him stay here, around $10M a year to keep him here in Miami, that is going to be a little tougher pill for Miami to swallow when they have some depth that has looked promising and a chance to just go back into the draft.
We get some type of compensation for Hunt if he leaves in free agency so I believe they will sign him to an extension last even if they let him test FA and then decide to match or outbid.

On offense we have Hill, Waddle, we'll need some 3rd and 4th WRs, not sure if we get the same guys back here. TE? Smythe isn't great but we don't use the TE spot the way other teams design plays so I'm not that concerned about it right now. At RB I would bring back Mostert on the cheap again, use Achane and maybe get another RB in the draft just to mix in. But none of this is pressing, Miami is in fairly good shape on Offense
...oh and they have to pay Tua $55M a year but we'll get to that after the Draft, he signed his 5th year deal, we all know he isn't gonna take the field for that number next season.
...MoP is mildly shocked he hasn't been extended ALREADY, just like Austin Jackson was extended, they could do it right now with Tua if they wanted.

-Defense? Just sign Wilkins and the rest is mostly in place. Van Ginkl may or may not be back, shocked he resigned with us this season but there will be a much bigger market this off season.
Trade Chubb, I'm serious, get someone else to pay his freight and go after someone else at Edge/OLB
-DBs look solid but I would start trying to figure out the quickest and cheapest way to extend UDFA Kohou, he might have another year on his rookie deal. Ramsey-Howard-Holland-Kohou
There aren't that many holes on this team AND most of the big money guys can restructure which only means they get a huge chunk of their salary at once in the form of a bonus, who doesn't want that? Ogbah's $17M salary will be gone

Miami should draft an impact IOL or OT if someone special were to fall.
I like your idea of a DL, DT-Davis is going to be a free agent and I don't expect him back, we can replace him in the draft.
Baker is already locked up at about $7M I think but don't hold me to it
Miami is going to be able to go BPA for once and continue doing it throughout the draft.

Nice thing is Miami has a bunch of corners on all sorts of deals. They have a RB locked up to a rookie deal and some "back end" guys who would love to stick around. Berrios, Cracraft, Ezuma should likely stay but I'm sure Ced will be gone or restructured for cap relief.

Gink is an interesting egg. Miami should reach out and try and make a deal for him since Ogbah will be gone.

Wilkins... Man, I just don't know. He's Ballin in this system and its not my money, but I can't see how they keep him and not be strapped againt the cap.

You hope a lot of these guys want to "run it back" without breaking our cap. I know that never really happens... You always have guys who want to be "paid" but hopefully Miami turns into New England where guys sign here to chase a ring.

Nice thing is Miami has a bunch of corners on all sorts of deals. They have a RB locked up to a rookie deal and some "back end" guys who would love to stick around. Berrios, Cracraft, Ezuma should likely stay but I'm sure Ced will be gone or restructured for cap relief.

Gink is an interesting egg. Miami should reach out and try and make a deal for him since Ogbah will be gone.

Gink needs to be retained.

Wilkins is a goner.

Hunt and Williams need to be extended as well.

I would love to see Williams slide back to his natural spot at guard and for us to draft a true Center.

FYI...Connor Williams is the #1 rated Center in the NFL, he wasn't really a hit in Dallas at Guard, Miami gave him an opportunity to showcase his talent
My hope is he's looking to play longer here
We cannot lose both Williams and Hunt so which one do you want to keep?

I didn't give Chris Grier a chance in hell, sounded like a buffoon on his introduction to the media down here in Miami and I've been very slow to give him a lot of credit

Let's focus on the 2023 team, it's possible we might actually make the Playoffs and it's also possible we might take the division

I doubt if we find an upgrade over Skylar. He was very good in the preseason aside from the 1st half versus JAX. He played well enough to beat BUF in the 2022 playoffs... remember the drop by Waddle on on long pass early in the game and the juggle by Gesicki late in the game on a 4th and 6, that would've been a 4th and 1 if not for the play getting in late, a persistent issue in the game. We don't have $$ to spend on a backup QB. I know they have doubts about Skylar, but he outplayed White in camp and preseason. White might return at a lower salary.

I'm good on White meaning I'd like to push off from paying a back up over $5M next year when you have Thompson...it's hard for me to understand why we signed White
BTW...White makes the same money as Tua in 2023, I posted but no one believes me that Tua is making $4M this season, $4.7M vs White getting $4.5M to ride the bench

BTW, our magic number to clinch the division is 3 - wins by MIA plus losses by BUF.

Interesting on Williams.

Wilkins.....ok we franchise him.

Gotta have Hunt and Williams. But I say Van Ginkel has proven his value in this defensive scheme and Phillips won't be the same guy till 2025 IMO if ever again after an Achilles tear. That first step explosion.....jeez let's focus on now.

We have a legit shot to get to the SB.....what more can we ask for right now!!!!
 
Curious to see how many of Wilkins, Hunt, Williams & Gink they are able to keep/re-sign.

Love Wilkins - don‘t see how you replace what he’s done in his tenure so far in Miami.

The Oline has been tremendous so far this season in making the offense go & keeping Tua upright. After decades of bad Oline play they finally got it right. Not sure how much that falls on Butch Barry coaching them up or hitting on quality depth. Never thought Eichenberg was salvagable? Cotton, Wynn & Lamm have all filled in serviceable as well. Also know they really lIke Kion Smith

IF I had to choose between signing Wilkins OR being able to 2 re-sign Williams and Hunt for that money I would choose the 2 Olinemen - losing Wilkins would be tough tho.

They upgraded/replaced Elandon Roberts with Long Jr this past year.
Hope they do the same with Baker next year - I have never been a fan of Jerome Baker.

Not sure where they find the cap space to sign all these dudes? Can see Baker, Mike White and possibly X not on the team next year.

white was brought in bc of the question about Tua’s head. Assuming Tua gets through the season with no issues white becomes a cap casualty. He could resign for a lower number but he may find more money in this diluted qb league right now. If he leaves, I can’t see Miami spending any real money on the #3 job, especially with Tua’s extension ahead. they likely sign a vet on a minimum deal and/or draft a guy round 5 or later.

baker played well in fangs system but he isn’t a game changer. assuming Miami looks defense in the first round or two a baker replacement has to be on the menu. They will habe a long look as to how important baker is to the D now that he is out for a bit.

i don’t see x or Ramsey going anywhere during this run. I think the secondary “revamp” occurs when it’s time to resign holland.

the interesting thing about this team is “what’s their weaknesses?” Oline (kind of), D line (kind of), tight end, and linebackers. Not sure any other position “weakens“ by not resigning someone and that these positions “strengthen “ from keeping who we have on the roster. I’d like the armstead replacement to be on this team next year just to be “coached up” for when he assumes that job
