Gonna be a tough division next year. The AFC E has three teams that are pretty solid top to bottom.

It's tough because Aaron was such an elite passer. How much of his decline has been due to system vs talent? How much has it been with all the drama and distractions he's causing? With the weapons the Jets have and that defense, I could easily see either QB elevating them to SB contender status. They've done a really good job building that roster.
LJ would be their better move long term, but Aaron gives more upside this year if he gets his crap together (big if IMO).

Hard to find fault with anything miami has done so far. I’m in NY btw today and a jet fan said to me “getting mike white was a good move for Miami. If he didn’t get hurt we wouldn’t have needed Rodgers “. Seems like a pretty interesting obser from a jets fan.

Like the Honey Nut Berrios addition. Felt like we led the league in fair catches last year - also don’t want to see Hill and/or Waddle returning kicks. Berrios fills that role.
Also don’t understand how the Special Teams coach from last year is still employed?

We have plenty of frontline guys, you need a Swiss army knife sometimes and that's how I view Berrios
Also, he was terrific at Miami and I think he was in both the Patriots and Jets camps
Drafted by NE-6th Rd.
I understand Jets fans don't think much of him but it was very crowded at WR there, I can name them all but Corey Davis is a name nobody mentions and he was there on top of Garret Wilson, Elijah Moore, Mims and no one that could throw to them. I don't expect Berrios to have any meaningful FF stats but I don't give a crap about that, I think he will help the special teams and I also expect some well timed reverses and Red Zone plays where he can scoot into the end zone.
If nothing else, he has been in the AFC East since 2018, he has inner knowledge on all 3 of our opponents we face twice a year plus he knows Miami pretty well since he's faced us a lot.
He's likely not going to catch a lot of footballs but he can help us out a lot on special teams.

I am one of Grier's biggest critics and I've even found myself feeling like a fan boy at times over the last 12-18 months with all the moves he has made
Rather than feel sorry for himself that the Draft picks don't work out, he fixes it thru the spending of the cap which let's face it,
A big part of being the GM is free agency and bringing in guys you cannot find in the draft so easily
Lockdown Cornerback, Pro Bowl Left Tackle, Center, WR1, Edge, Grier has done everything he can to make us competitive at the crucial positions
X, Holland, Wilkins, Baker, Phillips, a lot of our defense are hits thru the Draft.

I'm worried about Howard and I hope that some of this is not Grier with inner knowledge, maybe X time is coming to a close soon.

Malik Reed OLB 1 yr deal, played with Fangio previously (career best year according to Miami Herald)
Reed is backup material at best per this in depth analysis from a Broncos writer. Mostly coverage sacks. Still could use an edge rusher to complement Phillips and Chubb. I wonder if 7th rounder from last year, Cameron Goode, is still in their plans. He was good in training camp last year. With few draft picks, marginal vets have a good chance to make the team.

I Think we are reaching the 1 year deal phase of FA with the draft a month away. Miami still has to find a RT to compete with Jackson and likely a Tight end but a lot of them are still around (Personally, I think with this being a TE and CB rich draft Miami likely targets one of each but I also think we are setting up for a few UDFA to make a splash bc having 4 picks in this draft means 9-12 UDFA will be coming to camp with a chance to stick). The only room that is "set" is the QB room (and I still think we bring in a camp arm), and maybe WR. RB room has a spot for one guy, maybe 2. TE room is wide open. O line still needs one or two bodies. Defensively: A tackle (If we are going to extend Wilkins we are going to need some cheap large butts there too), LB that can rush and or cover (2), CB (I think this room will bring 3 or 4 to camp hoping one hits), and maybe one safety. I also think Miami brings in a kicker not just as a camp leg, but to compete for the job.
Brandon Shell. But he played well enough in 2022 to get interest from other teams including the Billls just now.That's the catch. Anyone who's decent will expect $$ or more than a 1-year committment.

I do not doubt Liam Eichenberg's desire but I do question if he has the skill set
Miami is determined to try and bring them back at LG-RT with Robert Jones pushing at the LG spot

-Dieter-3rd Rd, Isaiah Prince-6th Rd, Solomon Kindley-4th Rd, Austin Jackson-1st Rd, Liam Eichenberg-2nd Rd, Larnel Coleman-7th Rd, and finally Robert Hunt-2nd Rd
2019-2022...7 picks, 1 solid starter to show for it. Do we really want to burn another on the OL?
That said there are a lot of prospects at the Tackle spot where we could use some help at Right Tackle, nobody believes in Austin Jackson right now.
Every name i bring up, someone will say "If he makes it there" so I'll just say they can't take them all.
Other positions there will likely be decent prospects include Edge and Tight End where as many as 5-6(TE Prospects) seem to be floating around in the first 1-2 rounds
Miami doesn't seem to want a 3rd WR at that position(TE) so guys with 800/8TD and weigh 225 lbs, that's not really what Miami is looking for at Tight End
They could also find some good in line blocking TEs with their #84 pick.
Trading the #51 with the '24 1st is an option although it closes the book on any Lamar Jackson daydreams this writer has.

I feel like somebody high on Miami's list is going to fall outside of the Top 20, maybe not the guys I mentioned but someone they covet and will trade to make happen.
There are not many open spots on this roster so whoever they draft needs to contribute immediately so we can move to the next level.

@Ministry of Pain Don't give up a future #1 when you have an injury prone QB and unproven backups. I think Miami will be good in 2023, but I don't think a big tradeup in this year's draft will give us a difference maker. I'd rather stay at 2.20 and select a player who falls.

Agree and disagree. We can't hold on to them any ways so my theory is burn them before Ross has a chance to screw up again.
I am simply suggesting that if someone falls down the boards and Miami wants to make a move, they still have options.
The more QBs and WRs and RBs and Cornerbacks fill up the Top 20, the better things start to look for Miami trading their way into the 1st Round.
What do you expect the 2024 1st Rd pick to be? Top 10, I would hope not. Top 20? Still will be a disappointing season if that pick isn't 28-32

We are at the end of a total rebuild that started back in 2019/2020, it's 2023 and here we are

Agreed, but not the way you think. This draft is deep at some positions and Miami is going to need "cheap replacement level players" to handle this top heavy team, so a trade down makes as much sense as a trade up. Assuming Miami is picking from the deeper positions, it may make more sense to get some 2024 picks than utilize the 2023 ones.
You talk of Ross "screwing up the picks" but it was really just the Brady nonsense. Ross was also the guy who wanted the Dolphins to trade down and take Lamar Jackson way back when. (not here to get into a discussion of ross and his pluses and minuses, but he wants to win a championship. That is for sure)
Ask yourself with this roster, where is a "this year starter" going to come in the draft? O line? Maybe, LB? Maybe. RB? Likely not at this point but I'd say maybe 25% chance there. QB? No Edge rusher? Maybe. So if you don't have a guy you love, get some 2024 picks when you are going to need "cheap depth" as the rent comes due.

I think Miami can find an impact player at some areas they need immediate help. OLine
I find it hard to believe but Austin Jackson has value right now, maybe a 3rd in '24 but recoup something for him and move on.
Sometimes a change of scenery is good, Jackson is that special Year 4 of a rookie contract where people aren't sure he's worth a 5th Year option
I've seen guys change teams, have a great year somewhere and either get an extension from that team or find their way thru free agency.
Moving Jackson would make it easier to find a Right Tackle in the draft to plug in and start. The Bucs did it with Whirfs in 2020, desperate for a Right Tackle, they found one.
I'm not thinking about 2024 for even a second right now. The Bucs '20, The Rams '21, sometimes you must go ALL IN.
Why hamper the limits of the ceiling for this team to recoup draft picks because knucklehead owner decided to cheat since nothing else was working?
How many Playoff wins does Stephen Ross have since he bought the Miami Dolphins? Let's not give this man a lot of credit, please.
Trading down is another option, you could likely slide down 10-15 picks and maybe squeeze a '24 3rd out of someone but that just gets back the 3rd that Ross lost for us.
That doesn't make the product on the field better in 2023
We need to do everything possible to maximize our chances or we might finish 3rd or 4th in our own Division, that's how competitive it is.

I think just being back in the regular rotation will put him in positions to make plays.
Exotic blitz packages with Phillips, Chubb Van Ginkel as the 3rd guy, just 1 or 2 big DL inside and the rest more the Edge/Blitz types coming from all over.
I love that he is coming back, better than almost anyone they could sign right now

Makes sense. His base is 10 mil. If you figure the top 5 guys are making about 20 mil each it would have to be a 5 year 100 million dollar or so. You'd definitely have to backload some of the guarantees...

You bring up an excellent point if you are eluding to Miami perhaps getting their hands on one of the Rookie QBs that falls because one of them won't go Top 10, almost guarantee it. Some of those teams would like to have a stab in the 2nd Rd, but high 1st is a lot for at least 1 or perhaps 2 of those top 4 that get kicked around. I like the Hooker kid and he can be had well after those other 4 are gone. If you're sayin the Ravens would prefer to trade and Jackson and go with a rookie QB, that's also worth discussing.
I apologize for making my LJ daydreams everyone's problem in here, I try and keep it in the LJ thread but it has to be discussed at least a little bit. I respect and understand why most of you want to press forward with Tua and keep going with what we are doing, I really am not trying to convince you I'm right. I just like to explore all the options and this particular one is massive IMHO. However it turns out for Baltimore and Lamar in '23, you just don't see 26 year old QBs in their prime made available.

I want to see some 20-3 scores where the offense handles their business but the defense shuts the opponents down/out.
I'm sure the offense will be explosive again but when we get to the playoffs, many times you have to churn out a nasty win.
You might not score 30 points and you need the defense to help tip the scales.
We are getting set up to accomplish that, love the initial off season moves, the defense is already looking better.
2 major additions to the secondary, 1 is an All Pro Cornerback
