*** 2025 Pittsburgh Steelers: waiting on a guy that no one wants (4 Viewers)

If I were the Steelers, I would get better and younger in the trenches. They appear to be doing that. It's an exceptional DL class and Moore was eh and looking for a salary he wasn't worth.
I'd move on from some as it's just time. They are. This is possibly a famously deep RB class so they can replace Najee just fine.
They have TEs. It's not a concern at all but there's always room for a special one and some have caught scouts eyes in this draft as sleepers so maybe.
****
At quarterback, I'd want the premise of 2024 again with whoever. We'll give a few of them a shot but we'll be ready to move on next year so there's definitely no big commitment.

Arthur's old smash mouth 2-3 TE style and Steelers tradition of RB and line play...if I were a Steelers fan, I might be OK with some random CFL UFL QB and some fifth round QB and random veteran battling it out because we're gonna run 40 times per game.
My only requirement of the QB is they throw a pretty deep ball and panic throw firing a missile into the TEs chest.
I'm gonna get the best gunners in the class and improve the LB depth to have the best ST because we're gonna win some games 10-9.

Next year, well the team around a new QB is ready. If the new QB is a rookie, we can run often again.

The unknown of some random QB is more fun than imagining an old QB rubbing ben gay on while arguing with Pickens on the sideline.

I love the Metcalf addition but do you know how many bruises I'll have on my head if Winston throws 50 INTs? I'd rather see him be Deebo or run some trick plays to him. If not just chuck it deep and have faith. He wins more than he loses anyway.

It's brutal.
I don't even know any backup QBs around the league that are worth giving up a significant trade for.

All I know about the available QBs and I'd just rather the unknown. Gimme a little mystery and false hope. UFL guys. Oh Kurt Warner's kid is available. Have him bag groceries in April and travel to Europe then let's try him.

It's so rough and ya just gotta fear a contract more than anything

I'm hoping teams sign Wilson and Winston so this organization can look more dumb by the minute waiting for a moon juice drinking attention seeker to decide what he's doing.

Took my first shot at a mock at walk the mock. I don’t know a lot of the players so used Alex Kozora’s scouting reports at Steelersdepot.com

Made a couple trades back. Also picked up the Giants 2026 4th rounder

2.02 Derrick Harmon DL Oregon
2.29 Kaleb Johnson RB Iowa
3.21 Omar Norman-Lott DL Tennessee
3.35 Zy Alexander CB LSU
4.21 Luke Kandra IOL Cincinnati
5.24 Jack Nelson OT Wisconsin
6.09 Nick Nash WR San Jose
7.13 Teddy’s Buchanan LB Cal
7.29 Hunter Wohler SS Wisconsin

It's going to be Rodgers and I don't understand why people don't let him do the Rodgers thing and milk it for all it's worth. That's what he does. Your front office knew that. He's going to wait until the end, drop some ayahusca (or whatever you call it), and tell you that he can't see his shadow and he wants to come and play for the Steelers only there's that really sticky part about OTAs . . .

So now he's "Punxsutawney A-A-ron"?

Six more seasons without a playoff win, y'all!

:towelwave: Wave it. Wave it high.

The worst part of it is that his deep ball wasn't exactly great last year (I think it was poor) and they want him come in and—what?—throw back shoulder fades to DK Metcalf, a guy who isn't exactly known for his smooth adjustments? No thank you. If I'm the Steelers I would have been re-signing Fields or Russ, drafting one of the uber-talented RBs coming out in the second round, and just having one of those guys bomb away.

But they see something in A-A-ron, I guess. Is it possible he comes in and two years off of surgery is better? Yes. But look at his body. It's almost frail now. Are you gambling on him holding up when he's a sitting duck back there (worse than Russ)?

I don't know. Seems like a lot of demand on something fragile.

But they see something in A-A-ron, I guess.

What they see (and by "they" I mean Tomlin) is a guy who he believes he "won't have to coach". Because he can't coach QBs. Like, at all.

I still firmly believe Russ (in the aggregate) is Tomlin's wet dream at QB: Veteran, has won before so he should have some clout with the younger offensive guys (so Tomlin won't have to waste time on them. Eff that noise!), is a walking platitude who won't do bulletin board stuff very often, avoids the middle of the field (and tangentially INTs) like the hantavirus, and he won't need to be coached by the HC on how to play QB (cuz he can't, and doesn't want to do that. He's went to great lengths to prove this over the past 5 years for sure, but he was pretty hands off with Ben most of his career too).

If Artie Smith and Russ had gotten along better last season, I firmly believe they'd have extended him in-season if it were up to Mikey T. Or at least done so immediately after their 5th straight loss to end the year. Tomlin would be happy to pilot that particular dirigible into the ground, IMO.

I think he likely sees a lot of similarities with Rodgers at this stage of his career, with the most attractive piece of the puzzle being "He won't require me to have to try to coach him to be a QB. I'm really not good at that and don't want to have to get outside my comfort zone after two decades either."

Drafting a QB really limits us on CB and WR and the lack of any Oline depth I think forces us to draft there too.

21. Walter Nolen - DT Ole Miss

83. DJ Giddens - RB Kansas State

123. Ozzy Trapilo - OT Boston College

156. Tyler Shough - QB Louisville

185. Nohl Williams - CB California

229. Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins - DT Georgia

Much rather they just skip QB totally and bring in a UDRFA as camp body to roll with Mason/Skylar...and Flacco :shades:

Metcalf is a great slant runner. He is going to be a fast Lazzard

I'd be elated if we got Shough at 156 but I don't think he'll still be on the board when the second round is done.

I don't want him with 156. He is from the same recruiting class as Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields. 1 year of productive play in a weak conference at age 25. Pass

Don't care about any of those things you list. There are reasons for all of it. If he can play the age won't matter for that kind of cost. Either way you won't have to worry, he'll be long gone before 156.

As things stand right now if the draft were tomorrow I'd just go for cost-controlled beef up front on D, take a stab at adding someone dynamic at RB, and then fill out with some depth around them at a couple areas of need.

Screw it. Eff QB. Eff WRs. Too many needs to remotely address all of them with quality via the draft, so they'll need to figure that out elsewhere/later...

21. Derrick Harmon DT Oregon
83. Alfred Collins DT Texas
123. Bhayshul Tuten RB Virginia Tech
156. Jalen Rivers OT Miami (FL)
185. Jack Kiser LB Notre Dame
229. Mac McWilliams CB UCF

Personally I want to see them give Warren the Chase Brown treatment & see how he does. Maybe take a 2-down bruiser in the 4th to spell him & use in short yardage.

But I’m the weirdo who believes Warren can be extremely productive with 20+ touches a game. Not everyone believes that. I’m willing to write off some of last year as the team was, shall we say, less than complete.

I like Warren. He has more juice than Naj ever did. Will it translate with a larger workload? No idea, but it's worth seeing. Doubt they'd give him (or any) RB 20 touches a game though. They like to rotate.

He puts it on the ground sometimes too, and that will get him directly into Tomlin's doghouse faster than almost anything. He's probably going to get a lot of run....as long as he keeps the ball in his hands and not the defenses.

too early walkthemock draft...

trenches are the priority especially DL. OL depth needed for both tackle and guard.
Shemar could easily be the Steelers first round target. Not thrilled with the Phillips pick but went with potential in the 4th. Seems like a guy who is quick off the ball and gets penetration should have at least 1 sack. Almost took Cam Jackson over Stout in the 6th. Not against taking a big bodied run stuffer after watching the breakdown last year.
slow joe Skattebo might be a 1st rounder if he had straight line speed. love his game and couldn't resist the pick RD 3.
Hollin Pierce might be Andre the Giants kid. Massive bodied project and a fun pick. Added Tyler Cooper as development interior OL giving the team depth on the interior as well.
Added Stout and Wohler to get younger in the secondary.

Slough was still on the board in the 6th but passed. Doesn't handle pressure well at all & needs a clean pocket. Long term, team wants a mobile QB. Just pass at any price.
Punting QB and WR to next year though I could see taking WR late.

Here is how messed up everything is. Two different real sources; one says deal for Arod is done. One says Arod is not coming.
Sounds like Aaron Rodgers is already throwing interceptions. But this time, it's between the sources. Be grateful these folks aren't managing your retirement fund or giving you relationship advice. Unless you enjoy living on the edge!

Overall, this off season if anything I've learned that MikeT oversteps his rules and responsibilities. But that also could be due to an unruly fan base who are tired of the team middling. Which has definitely turned up the heat on the head coach.

Per GMFB The Vikings are not pursuing Aaron Rodgers.
I wish the Steelers weren't, either.
I can't decide which I dislike more, the idea of signing Aaron Rodgers, or the idea of drafting another QB in the 1st round that's not worth a 1st round pick.
If they went Milroe in the 1st, uncontrollable laughter would take over.
Uncontrollable sadness would take over. That would be even worse than the Pickett pick, Milroe is not worth a 4th round pick at QB, he'll never be starter quality in the NFL. If you could convince him to change positions, possibly worth a midround pick.

I've been a staunch Tomlin/Steeler Organization defender, but I've had enough. Either Tomlin needs to relinquish GM control, or he has to go. This is embarrassing.

Tomlin isn’t going anywhere for a while.
And what a shame that is for the Rooney's to do that to the fan base.
I hope that some day I can become the head coach of the Steelers. It’s truly the most secure job in the world.
