2nd Official Free For All Chess Tournament- Green & Gold= Champion (1 Viewer)

That has happened to me and against me recently. Nothing you can do. If there a better chess app out there, let me know.

Thanks for coordinating this, Tim. It was nice to get back and play some "serious" games for the first time in like 5 years. I might be interested if you run another one in the summer/fall, though I can't imagine I'll finish better than joint-3rd.

wdcrob - if you see this, why did you sacrifice the knight? I was wracking my brain trying to figure out how I could get you to give up the knight and didn't have a good answer, and then you sacrificed it like 2 moves later.

Chess time needs an "observer " mode. I don't have a clue about the games listed by move, but being able to view someone else's game move by move after the fact would be awesome.

Eh, just play me and get the extra boost.

Thanks for the tourney - definitely in for the next one. It was good to use the brain like that; it has been a while.

:cough:Ihad4.5points:cough:

Who would like to participate in a team game? We set up two threads, white and black. White team cannot enter black team thread and vice versa. We play a game on chess time, discussing the strategy of the game in the thread, and making a team decision about moves. I think we would learn a lot by kibitzing about the position and strategy. Make sense?

Thanks for setting this up, Tim, it was about as smoothly run as it could possibly be. I played some really good games against some good players, and would be happy to play games with anyone (g&g is my account). I'm playing with Pizzatyme and he is good. I've had to spend lots of time with the Analyze feature to avoid getting the worst of it, and that's not blowing smoke.

By the way, if anyone wants to play without the use of Analyze just let me know before we start.

I love this idea.

Yeah - Pizza is good. He gave me some malarkey about losing his GM status (or maybe it was state HS champ :P ) once he discovered girls or something and is finally picking things back up. Seems not to have lost much.

This is a great idea.

Mostly because I'm not very good and I didn't think I could stop your pawns as it stood.

But also because I wanted to see what happened if I made that sac to get even on pawns and blow up your structure on that side. Same situation came up in an earlier game and folks here said it was a bad idea, but I decided to try it and see what happened. Sometimes I'm just that stubborn and have to see for myself.

Was I in a drawing position there?

I would be in for the team game but mostly to observe and learn from the best and my 2 points in the tourney would indicate ;) .

Would play the team game, not sure how much I could contribute. Sure I would learn alot though. If anyone wants to play in the meantime my username is brownsfan on chesstime also

Any others? I will think of a fair way to divide up teams. We will play two games simultaneously, so each te will play as black and white.

I'd do this, but I could only participate in the evenings.

How about first and second place in the tournament are captains (or the two highest placing folks who are interested in doing this), and they draft the rest of the team?

I'd give the lower seeded player first pick to try to balance out the G&G advantage ;)

Honestly I think you have enough people at this point.

I don't think it was drawn, but I don't think it was over. I think you had drawing chances. My goal was to try to get the passed h-pawn, which would force you to either abandon e3 (the knight) or stop defending the backward pawn on f2 with the king. Basically I was trying to use the h-pawn as a decoy to attack you elsewhere and maybe breakdown the queenside. The knight was quite strong where it was, as it prevented the e3 push that eventually ended the game. It was also on a dark square, so my bishop was useless against it.

I recall thinking just a move or two before that if I could just get the knight off the board - even if I had to give up the bishop to do it - it meant I could win...but as long as you had the knight, it was still up in the air.

Good game nonetheless....you had me on my heels frantically trading off pieces early on.

 thanks guys. There are a lot of good players on here. I honestly need to crack open my Modern Chess Openings book again. I am literally playing everything by distant memory of opening theory and obviously by the gut. Thus the results. HaLooking forward to the next tourney!

I'd be in for a team game as well. Interesting idea and a good opportunity to learn some theory.

is there a way to watch other peoples games in progress with this app? Doesn't look like it, but I'm just starting to use it.

I don't think there's a way to do this.

In for team game:

Otello

Tasker

Bogart

spoofy

Joe T

wdcrob

unialias

Karpis

Boom Boom

Sand

psychopav

brownsfan

nysfl2

kutta

pizzatyme

dancingbones

I think I have everyone who wants to be on a team. 8 on a team. Teams will be posted shortly.

Team O:

Otello, captain

Tasker

kutta

psychopav

karpis

brownsfan

bogart

dancing bones

Team X:

Sand

Pizzatyme

nysfl2

joe t

wdcrob

spoofy

boomboom

unialias

I tried to keep the teams even, using the scores from the tournaments.

As captain, I will start a thread for my team. Whoever is the captain for the other team will also start a thread. In the team thread we will discuss strategy, etc.

Rule 1: do not go into the thread of the other team.

I will start a game as white with the captain of the team X. Team X will start a game as white with team O as black. We will have two games going at once, each with three day limits.

As moves take place, the captains will report the moves to their team's thread.

Standard correspondence rules apply. No chess engines.

Any questions?

Maybe each guy from your team could invite one guy from black into a game and then we can all make the same moves and see the games on our apps?

Actually, take me out of the game. I love the idea, but it's just not going to work this time of year for me. I'll be useless and don't want to hamstring the team....I'd rather watch from the sidelines and be able to read both threads. Sorry.
