2nd Official Free For All Chess Tournament- Green & Gold= Champion (1 Viewer)

Joffer screwed up big time. This just got interesting.
Joffer had a win in the bag then goofed. Kutta, I think, had a draw in the bag then goofed. We are back to Joffer having the upper hand. It's getting close to the end.

Nakamura has a massive mental collapse whenever he plays Carlsen. This is the worst one yet.
Hasn't he talked a ton of #### about Carlsen? Seems like it'd add pressure.
Yes. Yes he has.
Starting to realize that I am the only person who is going to be able to stop Sauron in the context of chess history.
Naka is now +0 -8 =15 against Carlsen in classical chess.
Don't tug on Superman's cape.

I'm the fraud of the 2-0 group. Haven't played in 15 years, have never used a strategy, and basically just move guys around.

otello has played this endgame remarkably well. If that was all instinct, we have a Capablanca on our hands.
To be honest, I use the analyze game feature to play out every possible permutation I can think of (my skill level limits me in this regard, obviously). I measured this set of moves several times to queen my pawn before starting the process. OTB, it would be very difficult for me to process that many variables.
This would explain why we've had a game going for a month now and we've only finished like 10 moves. I tend to take awhile analyzing moves too.

My problem with the analyze game feature though is that it doesn't limit you to legal moves. I've done some analyses where I've totally missed that someone was in check for like 3 moves :bag: . I have another site that I use on my laptop to play around with rather than using the analyze game feature, when possible.
Et tu.

Um, yea, same here. As a bonus I've been denied the extra .5 on a bull#### ruling that I've referred up to FIDE. :P

No, baiting you would entail posting updates in this thread every 2.85 days.

Man, I really made some bad mistakes in my game. Joffer had me on edge and I pissed away a couple of good opportunities.

My rust is showing. It's been 25 years since I've played, but this little tourney is really sparking my interest again. I think I might start studying again and maybe get a little more serious.

Looks like it's you and me Kutta. Send me the invite when you like - just an FYI I won't be online to start playing until tomorrow night.

Hope that's not a problem.

No problem. I need a break after that joffer game anyway. Invite sent.

Boomboom - I have accepted.

Game on - should be interesting since it seems neither of us remember/have ever known what proper playing is like.

Still waiting for the pgn of that joffer/kutta game.
What's the best way to do that. Do we have to hand copy the notation from the app?I think we are both a little dissapointed with the mistakes we made, but it was a fun game none the less.
If you click on the completed game there should be a button on the top right corner which says "Email Game PGN".
Open it with notepad and just paste the full text in here after that.

My biggest mistake was not playing bg5 early and allowing his knight unfettered access to my boys.

For Joffer, I think he missed playing qh3 or nf3 at move 31, I think. If he plays nf3, I play kg2, he plays ng5 threatening qh3 and mate follows soon. I could squeak out the back door by playing kf1, but I still get hammered pretty hard over there. I think qh3 though is a winner for him. I don't see many ways out of trouble there.

38. qc8 was probably a mistake, but I was so worried about qh3 (after some knight maneuvering) that I wanted to force a queen trade here. I probably should have tried to hang onto my queen seeing I was down a couple pawns. I considered rd1, with the hope he moves the knight and I play qb3. But instead he could play rc5 which leaves me in a bit of a bind.

48. ... h4 was joffer's endgame mistake that almost cost him the win.

53. f4 was me giving away my draw. I thought I had it figured out where I would f4 would allow me to get his pawn and perhaps leave me with two pawns in which I might actually have a chance to win. I should have just taken his f pawn hoping he played nxf5 and then I could have played f3 to pretty much force the draw. I think.

Anyway, lots of mistakes but overall a really fun game. He definitely had me on my heels for most of it.

Great positional game. Love midgames like that - myriad possibilities in there.

BTW, you gave away your queen with 34. Qb3. Joffer missed it, though.

Also, whomever pointed out the Analysis tab in Chesstime - thanks. It has been a big help in visualizing these things. I'm so damn rusty I need the visual aid.

I guess I missed it too. Still don't see it.

Something like Nf3+, Kg2, Rh5, Kf1, Nc4d2+ then all sorts of mayhem ensues.

Oh sure. I agree that nf3 sucks for me, but I think there's actually a mate in there using the queen as I stated above rather than bringing the rook over.

I saw it, I didn't think it was a slam dunk. I think I might have been overly paranoid about the mate threat at g7 in the middle game.

pav and i are pretty deep into our game. traded queens a couple moves ago. now things get interesting.
