4th annual FBG chess tourney- Congrats to Kasparov! 1st place (1 Viewer)

I gave you 2 full days to respond, just to let me know. Not every game has started yet so if you finish quickly I can still rearrange some of the 3rd round games yet to begin. That's about all I can offer you.

I'm still accepting games to put into the analysis engines at: Shawnzo35@yahoo.com

Particularly interested in any nysfl2 games

AAA said that he sent you our game, as well. Let me know if you didn't get it.
Got it

Sorry guys

AAABatteries vs nysfl2 (0-1)

Tim - if I went through the thread and formatted one post with all of these, would you replace the results in the OP with these including the game links?

I think it's a nice feature we have out our disposal but tough to hunt and peck around for them all

Kutta wins.

I've played him before and he is much much better than I. So my strategy was to try and trade pieces and maybe stumble to a draw. It worked well at first as I managed to grab both bishops and a knight and a pawn or two. I even had it setup (I thought) to get the queen and sacrifice my own. Then that chance came and I completely missed it and we were done a couple moves later. Nice game by Kutta.

I sent you one last week - did you get it?

Bender defeats nysfl2 (1-0)

Thanks for the game nysfl2. Just a position/opening that I'm extremely comfortable in and a few mistakes on your end sort of forced the impending mate.

Best of luck for next round!
Good game, bender - I knew that you were going to beat me, but those mistakes made it much faster than it should have been.

Also, not an opening that I'm used to, and I don't think I responded well.

All pretty standard through the first 10 moves. I debated playing a Ragozin (which would be 3. ...Qa4+) but I'm just not aware about your skill level and it's something that's not so good for white vs an upper tier player.

Obviously not allowing you to castle was probably the biggest problem for you there. allowed me to get access to your king.

Tim beats Rdrunner 0-1

I got lucky. This was a very difficult sharp game. I'm going to post it here and I'd like some analysis.

I find it very useful. Couple of questions that are maybe answered on the site but haven't looked yet.

How do they categorize the moves to determine inaccuracy vs. mistake vs. blunder?

Most moves are not categorized. I assume that doesn't mean it's the optimal move but just not a move that is so bad that it qualifies for one if those 3 "bad" categories, right?

So

As far as I understand it...

Firstly - average centipawn loss is a great tool. It basically measures things in 1/100th of a pawn. The lower the score, the better you played. Someone playing a 30+ move games with less than 10 centipawn loss is probably a GM or a computer. You can scale it up from there. It's very difficult for anyone not titled to play that well.

So those "other" moves go into the formula there - while they may not be optimal, they might cause centipawn loss if not the best move.

Here's a nice explanation of the 3 "types": http://en.lichess.org/qa/75/how-are-these-determined-blunder-mistake-and-inaccuracy

It's also nice to understand "why" something is classified as a bad move.

i.e. - your 5th move vs getz - f4 - while not technically a mistake, doesn't really speak to the fact that you're opening up your position without having your king castled, which is a very dangerous idea. Typically, you'd like your king tucked away somewhere (or close to being tucked) away before opening the position with something like F4

my 2 cents

I emailed the game to Bender, but here it is:

1. e4 d5
2. Nf3 dxe4
3. Ng5 e5
4. Nxe4 f5

I prefer 3.5 to protecting the pawn, because I like my control of the center after 4. f5

5. Ng3 Be6
6. Nc3 c6
7. b3 Nf6
8. Bb2 Bd6
9. Be2 O-O
10. O-O Nb8d7
11. d3 Qc7
12. Bf3 g5

OK, now both sides are just about fully developed. This sets up an interesting middle game. I wasn't sure g5, playing on the king's side, is better than b5 or a5, which would lead to a queenside battle.

13. Qd2 h6
14. Ra1d1 Rf7
15. h3 Rg7
16. Rf1e1 Kh7
17. Kh2 g4

So now I'm attacking, which may be premature.

18. hxg4 Nxg4+
19. Bxg4 Rxg4
20. Nc3e2 Ra8g8

Is there a better, sharper move here?

21. Rh1 f4
22. Kg1 Rg8g6

Obviously fxg3 Qxh6#

23. Ne4 Rxg2+

So I am up a pawn, and I have nice rooks, but that knight on e4 is killing me. White still may be better here. I had no clue what to do.

24. Kf1 Bf8
25. Ne2g3 Rxf2+

He gambles and traps my rook.

26. Qxf2 fxg3
27. Nxg3 Rf6 0-1

I'm thinking his best move is to capture f2 with the king and after fxg3+, kg2. Thoughts?

3. Ng5 e5

4. Nxe4 f5

18. hxg4 Nxg4+

19. Bxg4 Rxg4

20. Nc3e2 Ra8g8

Is there a better, sharper move here? - you played the best move according to the engine

21. Rh1 f4

22. Kg1 Rg8g6

Obviously fxg3 Qxh6#

23. Ne4 Rxg2+

So I am up a pawn, and I have nice rooks, but that knight on e4 is killing me. White still may be better here. I had no clue what to do. - 24. ...bf8 does nothing from what I can see. I assume intention was to free the queen from protecting it, but there was no real danger. If he takes, he loses his best minor piece. I'd love for him to take my bishop there. he has no prospects of counter play at this point

24. Kf1 Bf8

25. Ne2g3 Rxf2+

He gambles and traps my rook.

26. Qxf2 fxg3

27. Nxg3 Rf6 0-1
