4th annual FBG chess tourney- Congrats to Kasparov! 1st place (1 Viewer)

Thanks! Yeah, I was trying not to trade a bishop for a knight and when he produced his queen, for some reason I advanced the a-pawn. That actually hampered me in the endgame. :sadbanana:

Thanks, JB! Also just sent (moments ago) Kutta's win against me from Round Five.

Here ya go brother.

Tough one for you as Kutta was mistake free. I've said it before, but playing against 0 mistakes and 10 or less centipawn loss after 35 moves is like playing a Master. Not much you can do man - Kutta played out of this world - I do know his Slav is very solid as we played almost the same opening together). You played well, Kutta played flawless. Can't do much about it but analyze the game and maybe see where you lost sight of your plan. Sick game Kutt!!!
Wow. Really glad to hear I played it well, but it didn't really feel that way while it was going on. AA played a great game with just a couple mistakes. Overall, lots of fun.

Wow, unleashed a mate-in-6 there. Impressive!

Well this time I got to 14 moves against Kasparov before I was forced to resign. I haven't been able to even get deep in the middle game against him, much less an endgame.
You played better in our tournament game. Just trying to break you of this blockading strategy out of the opening. Re-challenge me and take me up on my comments offer.

Smells a little fishy, Vishy.

Havent received an invite from DB yet - not that it matters, I drink on the weekends and don't play chess unless it's a weekday

No problem AA. You see a lot of putting pieces in pins at the lower levels just because it's one of the easiest "tactics" or ideas in chess when beginning to understand tactical ideas. What I've found in my time though, is putting pieces in pins that can be easily side stepped and then retreating the piece when the pin is unpinned is detrimental to ones development. I think when you pin a piece, it should have a purpose behind it - if you can't exploit the pin (which you can't in that position in a semi- slav), there's little reason to go for it. Get your bishop on a square that has better long term prospects of being an attacking piece instead (D or E file for the dark squared bishop in a slav). Again - this is especially true in Queen's Pawn Games/Slavs with black's dark squared bishop. I see pinning that c3 Knight way too much with no follow up or long term effectiveness. As far as I know, the only favorable time to play that pin in this opening is when white has a pawn on A4.

My 2 cents - which may be completely sophomoric :)

Pav or bones - can I get the PGN send to me for your game? shawnzo35@yahoo.com

I know it seems silly, but I'm putting together ChessBase files for you guys just because I have nothing better to do with this expensive chessbase software.

Appreciated in advance.

Still really wish I could get the tim game (and all the games from this past round) where his opponent blundered this past round as well. I don't care if they aren't worth viewing, I'm storing them and averaging the centipawn losses - building opening trees for each player - etc, heck even trying to be vigilant about people using assistance which is pretty easy to ascertain over the course of 4 or 5 games to benefit our future tournies.

Thanks
Sorry, have been away from the computer on vacation. Was a pretty brutal game on both sides I think - with plenty of missed opportunities had by all.

I'll post it here soon.

psychopav v dancingbones

No blunders on either side, so we have that going for us!

Would you give an IM a takeback he requested when he blundered (not a mouse slip) in a non rated 60 / 60 simul game? Computer shows me as way ahead after the blunder and a pawn behind if I gave him the takeback.

I did - then felt I shouldn't have and just resigned the game instead.

Just curious.

A non-rated simul game? Yeah, I'd probably let him take it back. Might be fun to try to defend against an IM a pawn down.

It was a full piece. A knight. It was a really dumb blunder too.

Ill upload it into lichess later on.

It was unrated so I gave him the takeback. Played him a good 100 times and have 1 draw, and 99 losses so I thought about not allowing it, but again, unrated.

Thanks for the feedback

Andy beats AA in very well-played game. No real mistakes I could exploit; once I went down a pawn it was over. GG Andy!

Very happy to have registered a couple of wins after not playing for years. Good tourney.

I was traveling the end of last week so my move rate vs Kutta was down. I'm back now and can move with haste from here on out.

JB timed out 14 moves in, but I'm fine starting another game & recreating the same moves & picking it up from there if that works.

Hmm, I was playing him in a friendly and he up and cancelled/timed out the other day with no warning. Hope he's ok.

He had just messaged me the move before that he had bee slammed at work, but was over the hump & should be able to move more quickly - then timeout. I'm betting he'll be back here soon, and I'd like to finish our game. Dunno what the official tourney rules are here, but being the last round, it is less important, I imagine.
