Did you consider Edwards here? Also do you think that Brown will walk into a "feature back" role knowing that Gruden likes RBBC and Garner and Pittman are still around?

If I'm GM, I'd probably let Garner go. As far as RBBC, Gruden may like to role-play his RBs, but Brown/Pittman are similar, & if Brown is as good as I think he is, Pittman will only be the backup. Brown will be that good, IMO.

pmcdade,

I didn't answer your Edwards question, but no, I didn't consider a WR here. It was Brown all the way. If he had been gone, not sure who I would've taken, but I probably would've been more agressive in trading down (meaning, I likely would've taken less).

He hasn't been on for a while.

2:28 was the last pick it's been 2 hours!

Do we vote or pass over?
In real life they pass over but who knows how long we would be passing the guy. TEN could go so many ways. They need OT and CB thanks to free agent losses but Braylon is probably considered the best playa available.

For realism I say we vote. If it was the Vikings I might say pass, but I vote for Edwards.... With Mason gone, how could they not?

I'd say a vote is the thing to do because we don't know when the GM will be able to make a pick. If we do vote, I'd probably have to go with Braylon Edwards here.

Because they have Bennett, Calico and Troupe, but their D is in need. Braylon is a solid pick though, easily BPA.

Of course, in the real draft, they could try and trade down one pick - that's my vote, if we can vote on a trade.

How about it, if Minnesota wants, Tenn trades down to the 7, at he price of a 3rd.

Then Tennessee takes either Pac-man or Rolle.

Trying to absentee a trade...kinda hard to do. I'd think if they are stuck with this pick, they'd have to take either Edwards or Pacman Jones. I'd vote for Edwards, as I just really have a hard time believing they'd pass on a BPA this big at a need spot.

Not too get too far afield from the drafting, but is the clock running tomorrow? Don't know if many are off, but I am. Will be tougher to get time to check in tomorrow than usual. Shouldn't be a problem, but might be for some peeps.

Sorry guys I thought I had a trade worked out and quickly left to a meeting before he could confirm.

1.06 Pac-man Jones CB West Virginia

Write up to follow tonight. (edited to add write up)

Jones is not only a quality cover man but is excellent in run support. The Titans generally try to find "complete" players, which is why I chose Jones over Rolle. In addition, Jones can be an excellent return man. IIRC the Titans return game was horrible in the second half of the year, and the loss of Mason doesn't give them many options there.

I considered Edwards, but with Bennett turning things on in the second half and Calico coming back from injury, I felt WR was in better shape than CB. The Titans current starting CBs are Woolfolk and ... I can't even remember the other scrub's name off hand. This duo won't scare anyone.

I was really hoping to trade down and honestly believe the Titans will do that come draft day. I had two potential trading partners but both apparently had specific players targetted and both were unfortunately taken by my pick.

With the 7th overall Pick the Vikings take: Cedric Benson

Mike Tice quote as saying "This is tough guy town and we need a tough guy running back"

O. Smith is now available to all for pick between 60th and 80th overall.

Minnesota Revamp it's Defense via Free agency. They still wanted Johnson but since that did not work out. They also tried desperitle to trade up from 18 to #4 to take Mike Williams. The Bears back out once they figured that this would give Minny 2 picks in the top Ten.

Strengths: Very good all-around athletic ability...Good size...Tough, powerful runner...Shows good vision and balance...Has strong legs and can move a pile...Hits the hole hard...Is quick and shows some some shiftiness for a guy his size...A workhorse who gets stronger with more carries and as the game goes on...Isn't just a short yardage runner and can break the long one...Extremely productive, ran for 1,000+ yards every year and is one of the most prolific running backs in college football history.

Weaknesses: Although good for his size, he won't wow you with his pure speed...Is only average as a receiver...Had some off the field legal issues..Character may be an issue for some, especially after the recent saga of Ricky Williams...Has had some minor injuries but will play through them...Has carried the ball a lot and there is some wear on his tires.

Potential elite, franchise back in the NFL and as close to a sure thing as there is in this Draft.

My take is this guy will end up being the next Emmitt Smith. Might not brake his records but guy you give the ball 25 times a game for 100+.

Antrell Rolle is better than Pac Man
Glad you think so.
Unbelievable how many people followed Kiper when he said Pac Man was better, with really nothing to prove it except personal preference. Im just going on what Ive seen of both in actual gameplay, and what I hear on NFL radio from guys whose opinion I trust, like Riggins, Dan Reeves, Pat Kirwan...etc...

Actually the only time I've read Kiper is when he is quoted at FBG much like the thread Colin started today. I avoid ESPN like the plague. As I said in my write up, I like Jones over Rolle because he appears to be more of the type of player Fisher would draft. He is excellent in run support and I believe he is a notch faster. I think a lot of teams are realizing that speed and the ability to turn their hips is much more important than the size that Rolle brings, and I believe Jones has the upper hand on Rolle in both instances.Add to that his ability to replace Mason as a kick/punt returner, which the Titans were weak at last year. How would you see Rolle filling the Titans needs better and/or matching the Titans tendencies in past drafts?

The Cardinals select Antrel Rolle, CB, Miami. The Cardinals are vulnerable in the secondary and need a big strong conrner such as rolle. Edwards here would be stupid after picking Boldin, Fitzgerald, and Bryant Johnson.

Detroit has #10Through 8 picks, Cadillac and Braylon are still on the board. One of them will still be there. Washington has Portis. Seriously, where's the interest. You're tellin me there's no interest in a tradeup?Bring them PM's.

The #9 pick is on the block. The 2 CB's we were looking at in this spot are gone.

I am surprised that Braylon is still around, but at least one RB will make it past #10

Are we up and running?
Yes, just discussing some trades. Seems like Edwards is a hot commodity right here.
I don't see how Wash. isn't leaping to get Edwards at this point. Many boards have him as the best player in the draft! And Washington is sorely lacking at WR...Trade would have to be REALLY HUGE for Wash not to jump on the WR.

This is true, and that's what I'm looking at

They need more picks as well, they need a startig CB, depth at OL, LB etc. And they just gave away the 2nd this year to move up in the 3rd round last year to get Cooley. I'm still ticked that they did that as deep as this draft is. If Edwards is there they will most likely take him but will try to get a good trade and add picks.

After trading Gardner!

WASH should JUMP on Edwards and thanks their lucky starts!!!!

To get this thing going

The Redskins select WR Braylon Edwards Michigan

Big, strong, fast playmaker. The bowl game against Texas cemeted him as one of the highest rated if not the highest rated palyer in the draft. His only problem is consistecy and focus sometimes leading to dropped passes. But the value here is huge and WR should be a priority in the draft.

THE RIGHTS TO EDWARDS ARE NOW ON THE BLOCK.

The Skins need more picks in the draft to fill other holes. DE, MLB, CB, DT and OL Depth

I am on the clock. I'd like to give it a few minutes to see if there's any interest in this spot. In 30-45 minutes, if I got nothin', I'll go ahead and make my selection.

Well, there was no interest whatsoever in a trade down, so I am forced to reach slightly.

Alex Barron, OT, Florida St.

Some will say he doesn't have the motor you like, but his tremendous size and excellent athleticism can't be denied. Defenses are relying more and more on speed rushers to get the job done, and Barron has the quickness to handle them.

He should be a fixture at left tackle for several years.

I apologize for the delay, fellas :D

With the 11th pick in the 2005 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys select Shawne Merriman, DE, Maryland

The Pats are looking to move down from the 32nd spot.Looking for a VET ILB and a lower round pick.Or just more picks.

After impatiently waiting for trade offers the Texans select

Carnell "Cadillac" William RB auburn

Williams by my personal draft board, is a hair above Brown as the bestback in this draft. The texans would have been happy to trade down for resolve more pressing needs as DomDavis is productive. servicable but not "special", but Cadillac has the potential to be dominate. Unless, he proves to be head and sholders above DD immediately he can be worked into the line-up in the hated RRBC. Trading out was the primary option here. other players considered were Carlos Rogers, Travis Johnson and David pollack.

Real life note: The "insider" rumors floating around here are that the Texans are in love with Troy Williamson WR south Carolina. I am not and did not consider him.

The Carolina Panthers have traded the #14 pick in the first round to the Baltimore Ravens for the #22 pick in the first and #84 in the third round. (FunkyPlutos is on the clock)

With the 14th pick in the 2005 NFL draft, the Baltimore Ravens select:

Troy Williamson, WR, South Carolina

I honestly think this guy will go in the top 10 when all is said and done with the NFL draft. The more I read and hear about him, the more I like and I think he will be a difference maker on the next level. Pairing him with Mason and using his speed to stretch the defenses, it will open things up for Jamal Lewis. Giving up the third was worth it because I knew Williamson wouldn't be left at #22, plus I feel I am getting top 10 value. I also didn't think Clayton would be around at that spot and I'm not sold on Roddy White, so I had to pull the trigger.

Here is a snapshot of Wiliamson:

Strengths: Has excellent speed...Size is above average...Was very productive in a tough conference...Has very good athletic ability...Explosive...A big play threat who can really stretch the field...Could be even better in the pros in a more open offensive system.

Weaknesses: Needs to expand his game to be more than just a deep threat...Played in a run orientated offense...Has had some minor injuries so durability could be a minor concern...Not a finished product and will need some work and coaching.

Chiefs are willing to move down, to around pick 20-25 for a 2nd rounder, maybe less PM me, if I get no offers worth taking before Church tommorrow, I'll pick by 0830 Central.
