5 ROUND MOCK DRAFT W/ COMP PICKS (1 Viewer)

Browns take Charlie Frye QB from Akron.Wanted to move down and look at other options, but with no real takers, its the future QB. Coaches come out and say immediately that the intention is to keep Frye on the bench for the entire first season to learn the NFL.Frye is a smart, accurate QB who would be competing with Alex Smith and Aaron Rogers at the top of the list if he came from a bigger school. He shined at the Senior Bowl against top competition and has the great intelligence and character that Crennell and Savage are trying to put together on the revamped Browns squad.Browns may look to trade back up into the second round depending on how things develop...

Looks like the Bears are going to acquire Edgerrin James for their 2nd rounderColtsfreak will be in to confirm

Id say the Bears offense has improved so far this draft1. Mike Williams2. Edgerrin James Cut McQuarters, restructure a deal or two and sign Edge to a long term deal. Gotta love it

How bad is McQuarters' contract? If it's manageable, we'll gladly take him as our #2 CB or nickel CB if the Chiefs end up getting Surtain. Heck, if we could offer a 7th for him in the mock, I'd consider that. He's a decent player and PR (not that the Chiefs need that), but I don't know how bad his contract is.

Confirmed!
Must say the Vikings are disappointed to see edge go to div rival. We thought about taking on Edge and drafting Edwards at 7. But we did not want to replace Randy Moss "I play when I want to motto" with Edwards I play when I want to.

Ok here we go let's get some votes going for PHILLY!I think Demarcus Ware or Fred Gibson/Reggie Brown would be ok.After going OL in the first a OLB or a WR might do it here.

Ugly figures for a nickel guy2005 3050000.00

2006 3450000.00

Philadelphia Eagles select:

Demarcus Ware

TB is on the clock.....football jones has been PM'd
I agree that this is the best Pick For Phily. Just read PFW daily colum and they said Ware was high on there draft board.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

2.4 (36): Matt Jones, WR, Arkansas

"The Tampa Bay organization can't pass up the oppurtunity to have what might turn out to be the most explosive & versatile weapon the NFL has ever seen. First of all, the speedy Jones will compliment Michael Clayton's game. Secondly, it will be up to the offensive staff to utilize all of Jones' various talents & abilities.

We wanted to add a couple gamebreakers to our offense in this draft & we now have what could be considered the two most dangerous players in this class (Ronnie Brown & Jones). We still have a lot of holes to fill (more than you would think), but we're extremely happy at this point."

Crowder and Miller go 20 & 21?  Well, this is a "Mock" draft...
I think Miller at #21 is a great choice.
Thanks. Read the post diesel. It's not who I expected to get to 21. Probed around for trade-up possibilities, but they just were going to cost too much. Jax FO and JDR haven't really shown the desire to do big trades anyway. A true rounded and great pass catching TE is something absent from the Jax arsenal, and it DEFINITELY cost them a couple games last year. If you can draft a guy that should allow you to WIN 2 more games the next season at 1.21.....you're going to pass that up, eh?Well, good thing neither of us is a GM! :boxing:
The absence of a pass-catching TE cost them 2 games? :rotflmao: Im sure the lack of pass rush, or starting Juran Bolden at corner wasnt nearly as bad as...not having a slight upgrade at TE.

Either way, Miller at 21 is a pretty big reach for a guy who'll be lucky to go in the top 35. Jags would have been much MUCH better off filling in their defensive holes and then pursuing Alex Smith or Kevin Everett in rounds 2 or 3 respectively.

EDIT to add: Don't take it personally. There are quite a few ridiculous picks thus far in this mock. Crowder and Miller were just the two biggest reaches I had seen.

Edwards falling past TEN and MIN is also ridiculous.

Hawthorne being a round 1 pick is just funny, as is Denver taking Thomas Davis. Is Denver just not planning on playing any deep coverage with their safties?

And what will SF do with Dan Cody? Watch him get run over as a 3-4 end? Watch him get burnt in coverage or beaten to the edge as an OLB?

Well I also bought into the hype and already had Matt Jones lined up for the Titans but got snookered by the Bucs. The Titans can go in many directions. Their starters are pretty solid at almost every position except OT, but they need depth virtually everywhere. I could reach for an OT here but I think we'll be able to get someone decent in the later rounds or after the June 1 cuts.I would try to trade out and gain extra picks but that appears to be very difficult so far in this mock with only one trade happening thus far ... unheard of actually. I'll open this up to trade offers for the next 30-40 minutes. If nothing comes up, I'll make my pick then.

It remains to be seen how big a fantasy force he'll be, but I can easily see some NFL team getting enamoured with Matt Jones & taking him rather early. I'd probably do the same thing if I were a GM. I believe he'll be off the board in the late-1st, if not sooner.

MN just traded a player that takes plays off why would that draft another in his Place? With the Trade of Bennet they need a RB.3 top prospetics accrding to PFW draft guides and updated draft gudies are in order:Alex Smith 6.75Cedric Benson 6.75Braylon Edwards 6.70At 18 Vinings drafted a WR with grade of 6.54. (Mark Clayton)And the 4th back in the draft only has grade 5.95 that's much bigger drop off.

Hmm, well, Jags offensive efficiency dropped from 15th ranked to 25th in the NFL. Jags had constant injury problems with their only decent TE (who is also aging) in Brady. So, you'd be happy with a team that just can't get the ball punched into the end-zone (and a Defense that is outstanding and SHOULD be winning games for you, if you could just score 2x TD's a game!) with a TE crew of: Brady (getting older, and never a really great pass-catching TE), Wrighster, Yoder, and jones. Personally, I'd figure that I've got 2 great DT's (Stroud and Henderson), 1 FA DE addition in Hayward and 1 who really came on last year in Spicer, and also Greg Favors for some pass rush help, and 3 pretty good backers (Mo Pete, Daryl Smith, and Jorge Cordova). I need CB help, but honestly, there's a few CB's that WILL slip to my 2nd pick and can be pretty good starting RCB's. I've got Rasheen Mathis who looked pretty good last year, and brought in Cousins as a possible starter (but hopign my 2.20 pick will keep him at nickle). My SS and FS are top notch.I need defensive depth, yes...but not starters. Maybe YOU would pick 1st round guys to sit and watch...I need them to PLAY, and Miller gives me an immediate jump in offensive efficiency. Defensive depth I can and will get it in rounds 3-7. Other concern is on OT, but again...there just wasn't 1.21 value at OT with the top 2 guys gone. If I was picking 1.27+, sure. You can have your opinion. And I don't take offense, especially since I'm right :P

To TEN #44 and #120

To MIN #37

Trade with Ten is confirmed.

With the 37th overall Pick the Vikings take: Kevin Burnett OLB Tennessee

Mike Tice quote as saying "We need to add depth at linebacker and for the price of 4th round pick this guy is to good to pass up here. Not only will he compete for starting "WLB" spot he will be key contribute on special teams."

Strengths: Excellent athletic ability...Good size...Very good speed...Great instincts...Makes plays sideline-to-sideline...Excels in coverage...Can get after the quarterback...Good in pursuit...Explosive tackler...Team leader and captain.

Weaknesses: Might not be all the way back from a major knee injury...Doesn't always play up to his physical ability...Could stand to add some weight and get stronger.

Burnett has 1st round talent with his knee injury knocking him down. He played his entire SR season (Was red shirted) and had 120-6-1 season.

My take is: Burnett was just to good to pass up. I was thinking OL at 44 all the way. But this guy could be play-maker and is too good for Minnesota to pass up. Have him Ranked as 27th best prospect and 3rd best OLB after Ware and Johnson. Rating is 6.17 (Has a good chance to go in the first round and be a starter by his second season.) Tuck and Roth where also Considered with this pick.

This trade leaves Minnesota with out a 4th and 5th round pick. We are now expecting all offers for O. Smith, Cambell, K. Mixon and M. Robinson.

I've been disappointed with the attitude towards trades in this. Basically people want to get more picks of higher value than can possibly be justified... and this is if I'm trying to trade DOWN! I'm not bothering to try and move anymore in this mock. People seem to think that if they're not ripping you off, its not worth making a trade.

Either way, Miller at 21 is a pretty big reach for a guy who'll be lucky to go in the top 35.
I've seen several expert mocks with Miller going in the 10-20 range, so I don't really think taking him at #21 is much of a reach at all...

Diesel, what makes you think Heath Miller will be lucky to get drafted in the top 35? I think he's got a better chance to go top-10 than he does to get drafted #36 or later.

Indianapolis selects Darryl Blackstock OLB Virginia!

NFL.COM ARTICLE ON BLACKSTOCK

Blackstock is an excellent athelte who plays the game with a great deal of explosiveness. He has great size; good height and a good build for the position. He has good ability as an edge rusher. He shows good explosiveness off the ball and good upfield speed. He is above average with his hands and does a good job of getting around blocks and to the quarterback. In the run game, he shows the same awareness of oncoming blocks and does a good job of not allowing blockers to lock onto him. He is good in pursuit, showing good straight line speed. He is disciplined and will stay at home on misdirection plays. One thing Blackstock does well is play within himself. He is very under control and doesn't often overrun plays or get caught out of position while making tackles. He does need to work on his coverage ability though. He is a bit stiff changing directions in coverage and doesn't show great awareness or instincts in zones.

Blackstock will be a 3-4 OLB or a 4-3 strongside candidate at the next level. He has a great combination of size and speed for the position and is a great edge rusher. He could also play as a defensive end on obvious passing downs. Blackstock should be a late 1st/early 2nd round choice.

I have also added a write-up for Indy's first round pick, Marlin Jackson!

Man, every target I had went in the last few picks.

Oh well, New Orleans selects Josh Bullocks, S, Nebraska

We need a SS, but at 6'0" 205lbs and 4.45 speed he's more suited to play FS. Dwight Smith was signed to fill that need, but has expressed a desire to move to SS where he's apparently more comfortable. Since Bullocks is a junior, he'll probably need a year of NFL experience before he can start. We'll let Jay Bellamy hold down SS until Bullocks is ready. When the time comes we can move Smith over and plug Bullocks in at FS.

Let's begin voting on Detriot's (loser) time is up......

Urinal Mint is up as soons as we decide.

I think DT is a need here....Luis Castillo DT NW is a possible (Dan Wilkinson isn't getting any younger)
I 2nd Castillo...

The Detriot Lions select:

Luis Castillo DT NW

Dallas (Urinal Mint) is up and has been PM and emailed!!!
Good gracious, we didn't get much done on this mock today! Ugh, really need the "owners" to pay more attention. Yipes!

Urinal Mint is usuallyaround too.

I think mole is MIA!

Any recommendation?

I say we either vote on players or hire new GM's?
Voting seems to work. New owners for MIA guys though might not be bad Idea.

Sorry guys. Got caught up at work today.

If it's not too late I'd rather take Justin Tuck DE, Notre Dame.

Tuck is yoursUrinal Mints where are you (ehco echo......)

SF Drafts DE Dan Cody. Explanation later.
I'd love to hear about this pick. I had the same situation in another draft, thought Cody was the best on the board, but didn't think he fit Nolan's new scheme. The team is switching to a 3-4. Their is depth at LB, but really no 34 De's on the roster. Right now undersized Englegerger, Andre Carter, and old BY will try and fill the two end spots.

I don't see Cody as a guy that can play 3-4 End. He's an undersized end/LB tweener, Andre Carter II if you like.

Sorry, I just came to check out Bojangles 49er picks....I hated Alex Smith at #1 so I wanted to see how he was doing with the rest.... :P You don't want me doing the Cowboys. I'd give them Maurice Clarett, he'd fit right in....

Tennessee

2.12 Adam Terry OT Syracuse

I was targetting an OT with this pick and hoped Terry would last. Terry is one of the more athletic linemen in the draft and has been on the rise since the Senior Bowl. At 6'8", he has excellent size and will improve with added bulk. He should eventually be starting with Fred Miller getting cut.

Carolina is up.
