5 ROUND MOCK DRAFT W/ COMP PICKS (1 Viewer)

After sending out 5 offers and not hearing back, I'll just pick. The Chiefs have already addressed two of their pressing needs with later picks - acquiring Pat Surtain and Rod Gardner for this year's 2nd and 4th, plus next year's 5th.A CB would still be nice to have for nickel packages, but at this pick we need someone who will see more than 25% of the plays (although with Moss in the division, a CB would help a lot for two games), Our offense is set, so that leaves us with 2 needs, which I see as about equal, hence the desire to trade down. I have to admit, this pick was difficult, but as I'm hoping Fujita returns, K Bell is a top MLB, and we will try Kawika on the weak-side, our top need is DE. There's a few worth considering here, so the question is who fits Gunther's scheme the best?We need an explosive player, who can be counted on the make the big plays, and can help with run support. We'll take David Pollack.

I really don't have the time to check on this draft, unfortunately. So, I'm relinquishing the packers' picks. Please have someone take over my duties to this draft.

Saints select Carlos Rogers, CB, AuburnNew Orleans has many holes on D and Rogers offers great value at 1.16. I thought about Barnes and T.Davis here, but decided Rogers was the BPA.

Cincinnati will go with who I feel is the best defensive player left on the board, Shaun Cody, DT, USC

Like a Vonnie Holliday (but much better), Shauin Cody can really play anywhere on the D-Line. Whether he plays DE or DT, is in a 4-3 or 3-4, Cody has got game. Lewis will know how to get the most of him and Cody will definitely be ready to play. I see some reports say that DE may be his position since he lacks size. At 6'4" 295lbs. he's a tad taller than some of the other top DT's in the is draft and only a few lbs. lighter. His motor has a lot more torque and HP than any of the other DT's though. He's got the versatility, agressiveness, and technique to be a solid addition to any D-Line for many years.

Minnesota is looking to trade down.
Edge & my 2nd for your pick???
After Drafting Benson Vikings are not looking to add any more RB's. Since there where no trade offers My Pick will be made in 15 Min.

O. Smith and Kelly Cambell are both on the block.

O. Smith is now available to all for pick between 60th and 80th overall.

Kelly Cambell can be had for 5th round pick.

With the 18th overall Pick the Vikings take: Mark Clayton WR Oklahoma

Mike Tice quote as saying "We have enough young plaers on defense. We feel that D Scott will fill in on the line nicely and Henderson and R. Smith can handle the WLB spot. So we drafted the most NFL ready WR with enough speed to keep opposing defense honest."

Minnesota Revamp it's Defense via Free agency. The are looking to add game breakers and youth to there offense that is lead by veteran QB C-Pep.

Strengths: Extremely productive...Explosive and a big play waiting to happen...Has good hands...Runs excellent routes...Good speed and is very quick...A major threat after the catch and in the open field...Adjusts to the ball well...Very good athlete...Tough and a hard worker.

Weaknesses: Doesn't have the ideal size you look for...Needs to add some weight and get stronger...May have trouble beating the jam at the next level...Will struggle with physicals defensive backs...Played in an top offense and was surrounded by top talent.

Potential elite, This guy is cross between Harrison and S. Moss. Great route runner. Route running is what separates the boy's from the men when comes to NFL WR.

My take is Clayton should be able to keep the Safeties honest to give Benson room to run. Plus he team up with Burlson, Taylor and Robinson giving the Vikings 4 solid options. Vikings what to mimic the Colts offense now that Randy is gone. Look for Clayton to be the #3 WR between the 20's well the Vikings use Robinson as the number #3 in the red zone.

James was the other guy that got consideration but Clayton potential to big to pass up. The Vikings where considered trading for the Edge and where rumored to be willing to move down as low as 31st over all in a trade.

At 1.19 Saint Louis Rams select

OT Jamaal Brown, Oklahoma

It came down to two Sooners, Dan Cody or Brown. Anthony Hargrove isnt the answer at DE but the need for a RT is so immense that it had to be the best option.

I also considered, like I am sure Mad Mike will, drafting Heath Miller, replacing Manamaleauna, but that might not go over too well.

*Jacksonville representative sprints to the table*

Well, I been waiting in the wings for awhile trying to figure out which of "my guys" would slide to me. Attempted to move up to 1.10 and also 1.15, but didn't want to give up enough to make the move.

Was hoping to land OT Brown or DC Rogers here to best serve my needs. But, looking at the BPA vs. true NEEDs, I just can't pass up:

1.21 Heath Miller TE 6'5" 254 VIRGINIA

I'm not tickled that this gentleman hasn't been able to work out during this draft prep period, but confident in my scouting and meetings with him. He's got ideal athleticism for a all-around great TE. Run and pass blocking are fundamentally sound, and will improve with a bit of coaching. Great hands, combined with his football acumen and superb athleticism make him an ideal piece to continue expanding our offense. As a team, we really struggled in the red zone, so adding a outstanding redzone option of Miller's level this far into Round1 makes the whole organization happy.

This pick came down to 3 players for me: TE Heath Miller, DE Erasmus James, and DS Thomas Davis.

I really can't understand DE Erasmus James slipping - he's #2 DE on my board - but I also feel comfortable with the job Paul Spicer did at LDE and think I can get production out of Hayward and even mix in Favors as a pass-rushing DE at times. Add in a rookie later in the draft somewhere, and I should be able to get by off the strength of the rest of my front 7.

Davis was a real quandry. I like where he'd fit in with our Defense, giving us some much needed depth at OLB and will also train to fill Darius shoes if he can add some experience in coverage at the NFL level. Smith, Peterson, and Cordova look to be a good trio of backers, but having a football player like Davis mixing in there would be ideal. Like I said, it was tough not taking him, simply for the flexibility it gives me for the coming year (and dealing with Darius next offseason).

Note: Jax is still looking to move up from 2.20 to early 2nd round. QB Garrard and possibly Darius on the block. Would consider moving into the LATE first if someone really can't take the cap hit for a 1st rounder.

Carolina Panthers Looking to move down again from #22... anyone interested? Ill give it about 15-30 mins and if nothing then Ill make my pick.

Still working the trade thing.... will have something before the deadline.

Carolina Panthers select:

1.22 Travis Johnson DT Florida St.

DT Brentson Buckner is closing in on retirement and I think Travis Johnson paired with Kris Jenkins, Peppers and Rucker would be awesome.

Excellent quickness, plays the run very well, too quick upfield sometimes but with the other Dlinemen the Panthers have wont be too much of a problem. Had a super workout at Pro-Day in Tally.....

What's the problem?  Dallas fills a need with a monster LB.

Crowder and Miller go 20 & 21?  Well, this is a "Mock" draft...
I believe diesel is talking about the recent news concerning Crowder's draft stock. Kiper recently said he thinks Crowder will go anywhere from the 3rd thru the 5th round. Evidently, the 1st round predictions about him were premature (if you believe Kiper...personally, I think he's as plugged-in as anybody). The biggest knocks on Crowder are his injury history (numerous knee surgeries) & questionable character. The main thing is the knee problems, IMO. Some teams may even have him off their board because of that. He does have big-time potential, though, & it was common for him to be in the 1st round of most mocks as recently as a week or two ago.

With the last two picks, our clear cut players were gone and left the Packers in a decision to make a tough choice. With many needs at DL, LB, and Safety, the options were many but the top quality players few. With that said, we believe that the run defense needs fixing ASAP. With that said, the Packers select....Anttaj Hawthorne, DT, WisconsinWith this pick, a few factors come into play. 1. T Johnson and Hawthorne are the clear top DTs in this draft and then it is a big dropoff. Better run defense starts up the middle and we all know where Gilbert Brown is now, McDonalds. Grady Jackson and Hawthorne become a huge stop gap to what was a leaky run defense and magically make the LBs better.2. There is more chance to see a quality LB or Safety in the 2nd rd where the Pack has two picks than there was a talented run plugger.3. O line was also a thought but with the recent signings, late round prospects will be added most likely and developed for depth this year.

I think the Packers need more help against the pass, personally. IMO (I've been wrong before), CB, DE, and LB are the biggest needs, and while the LB crop in the draft is thin, I have three CB's and three DE's rated higher than Hawthorne (again, completely subjective).I'm just saying, I doubt the Packers would pass on Cody or Thomas Davis here.

Unfortunately something has come up at the office that's going to require my undivided attention the rest of the week, so I need to step away from this mock completely. Hopefully someone will be happy to fill Dallas's spot in my stead. Thanks, guys, it's been fun! :D

For Denver I wanted a DT or DE here but all of them I was targeting are gone.

Instead of slowing this down and trying to make a trade I'll make the pick. Not a real need but it's always nice to have some extra defensive guys and youth to take over some day.

#25 Denver, Thomas Davis, SS, Georgia

I think Miller at #21 is a great choice.
Thanks. Read the post diesel. It's not who I expected to get to 21. Probed around for trade-up possibilities, but they just were going to cost too much. Jax FO and JDR haven't really shown the desire to do big trades anyway. A true rounded and great pass catching TE is something absent from the Jax arsenal, and it DEFINITELY cost them a couple games last year. If you can draft a guy that should allow you to WIN 2 more games the next season at 1.21.....you're going to pass that up, eh?Well, good thing neither of us is a GM! :boxing:

First, I will agree that there were CBs and Safeties that were tempting. With that said, the Pack drafted two CBs high last year and they have to be given the opportunity to work with the new DC who is a heck of a coach. The scheme was horrible last year and a real DC should fix that first.Second, a pash rush up the middle and from the ends makes the pass defense improve ten fold. With teams double teaming the DT now, KGB and a pash rush specialist to be drafter later maybe will be free to go at the QB with one on one matchups.

Third, instead of third and short all the time, teams will now be faced with more third and long since the run defense gets much improved now that the middle is solid. Barnett becomes much better without traffic in his face and is able to go sideline to sideline and be a playmaker.

All in all, there wasn't a DT later on that was a big plugger while there are later CBs, Safties, LBs, and even deeper DEs that will make the impact needed for defensive improvement in my opinion.

My vote is Miller he can be a returner as well take over for Santana Moss

Maybe we should kill this mock and try it again in a couple of weeks. Seems most are not checking the thread and must be mocked out since there has been so many in the last few weeks.

Indianapolis selects Marlin Jackson, CB Michigan

Marlin is a big, physical corner who was a 4 year starter at one of the nation's top programs. He doesn't have blazing speed yet he doesn't need to playing in the Cover 2. He has experience covering and shutting down such receivers as Charles Rogers & Reggie Williams while at Michigan. He has great confidence and at 6'1'' would be great for the Colts who lack a big corner. Marlin will step right in as the starter Week 1 and will be a huge upgrade at the position.

Since my pick is the same as it is in the other draft, I can use the same write-up !

At 1.30 the Steelers select David Baas G/C Michigan

The Steelers are in the enviable position of drafting for depth rather than for immediate need. The need categories as I see them for the near future are DE, OL depth, TE (if they want more of a receiving threat there) and possibly CB, RB, and WR. At this spot, the best available player for them is Baas. The offensive line is the engine which drives the Steelers run-oriented offense and Baas is a perfect fit. At 6' 4 1/2" and 320 lbs, he has the size to be a force in the ground game. He turned in a 5.0 in the 40, 29 strength reps, and a 37 on the Wonderlic at the combine, all in the top 1-2 among guards likely to be drafted. Aside from this, he plays with a serious "mean streak", which may be a cliche these days, but is imperative to success in the NFL. Baas reminds me a little of Alan Faneca in this respect and he looks to be the best fit for the Steeler offense of any lineman in the draft. Add to this a coveted characteristic - versatility. Baas projects to be a guard in the NFL, but played center this entire season due to necessity and ended up tying Ben Wilkinson for the award given to the nation's top center (the name of which eludes me at the moment.) This could be huge for Pittsburgh as center Jeff Hartings is older and playing on oft-injured knees...one bad twist and his career could be over. Kendall Simmons is slated to be the teams starting RG, but missed all of last season with injury and is also battling adult-onset diabetes. These are the two high-risk positions on the Steelers line, and Baas could feasibly jump in and perform well at either spot from day 1 if need be. With Oliver Ross and Keydrick Vincent signing free agent deals elsewhere, o-line depth is at a premium for Pittsburgh, which gives Baas the nod here.

The PATS are still looking to move down!Chaos has 30 more min's then we vote and I'll either pick or trade.Working on a few deals as we speak.

Is Khalif Barnes still on the table?PHI is really only drafting for depth so with this OT still on the board, I must take him.

There was only a 2006 draft pick included so it will have no effect on our draft order.
It was to be a conditional 2006 pick, but I think that went to the wayside when DT Meyers was thrown in instead. Now there is no pick at all, but player v. player.

The World Champion NEW ENDLAND PATRIOTS select:

LB Odell Thurman UGA

Height: 6'0"

Weight: 233 lbs.

40: 4.62 - Combine

Stats:

2003: 121 Tackles 6.5 Sacks 2 INT 1 FF

2004: 65 Tackles 3 Sacks 0 INT 1 FF

Odell Thurman is a two-year starter who transferred from the Georgia Military Academy in 2003 to help replace the departed Boss Bailey (Lions). Thurman was a playmaker for the Bulldogs from the beginning and really displayed his all-around ability against Auburn in 2003 with 14 tackles, 2 sacks and a 99 yard touchdown return on an interception. At 6'1 230, Thurman doesn't have ideal size for a middle linebacker in the NFL. He may want to hit the weights and bulk up a little. He hits extremely hard and is fundamentally sound as a tackler. Despite his lack of size, he has good strength and does a good job of fighting off blocks of opposing offensive linemen. He has good mobility and is solid in coverage. Thurman is a little raw and still developing. He has less than two years of division I football experience and probably would've benefited from another year of college. He lost both of his parents and is finacially responsible for his five brothers as well as his own child, making his decision to declare for the draft a fairly easy one. Thurman was suspended for the first three games of the 2004 season for off the field problems, which may cause character to be an issue for him. He is a very talented player who has not yet reached his full potential. He looks to be a solid second round pick who could sneak in the the latter portion of round one.

Pats take the BEST PALYER AVAILABLE at the ILB posistion to fill a need that has in the past few weeks proven to be a MAJOR need. They let most of the ILB FA get signed and have been resigned to the fact that maybe a June 1st player will be snatched up by the PATS brass but Thurman has proven in Georgia that he can get the job done and the fact is the PATS will be playing more 4-3 in 2005 with a ton of Depth and Youth on the DL why not play your best guys more.

San Fran is up Bojang0301 has been pm'd.....

Browns would like to move down and pick up a 4th or 5th rounder. Also William Green is definitely on the table for those of you who don't get the RB you were hoping for.
