FWIW, Dave Allen had already left Go4 and joined Shriekback by the time this was released. Sara Lee played bass on the song.10.X: I love a Man in a Uniform- Gang of Four (Post punk)
when I think post-punk, I think of this band... even if I don't really think of this song as much as their first album from the 70s. this song took their raw, spare guitar work into more dance territory that they'd immerse themselves in later (and as Shriekback).
well there ya go. it definitely had a different sound in play than their first. I can't remember if this is from their 2nd or 3rd album...FWIW, Dave Allen had already left Go4 and joined Shriekback by the time this was released. Well, I can keep things moving for another 20 minutes or so - I have a conference call I have to be at 1:30 easternMy laptop seems to have died :(
Nice. Glad to see this one get some attention. Kind of a Bowie/Thomas Dolby vibe.I'm going to take this one only because I don't remember it ever popping up in threads or drafts- and I always loved the song... captures the spirit of a lot of what the early 80s sounded like to me.
12.X: Flaming Desire- Bill Nelson (? wildcard for now)

I've been struggling with this category and this is perfect. Just wish I had though of it before you.time to add some embarassing pop goodness to the mix:
11.15: Wham! - I'm your man (guilty pleasure)
Love this song and most of the album. Looking back, Fleetwood Mac was one of my biggest missteps as a young music snob. At the time, I wrote them off as typical El Lay/You Kay corporate rock whores. I was totally wrong. Their 75-90s stuff has held up better than a lot of the trendy stuff I was listening to back then.
Looks like KardPlayerWho's on the clock?
Am I the only fan?I'm at lunch. Of course. So I'll give you a link later.

Really let this get ahead of me, sorry. Without reading this thread I just sort of jumped in thinking we'd be doing a punk/post punk/indie/alternative/new wave draft, because that's the 80s to me. Kroq in LA was pretty much the only station I listened to post college in 1985, and that was because they played what I listened to in college. Here is what I have missing from the Google Doc.

I just feel like that category is so subjective. I mean I would consider any song that someone likes by Bieber to be a guilty pleasure but I'm sure Bieber fans don't feel that way.I've been struggling with this category and this is perfect. Maybe a better name for the category is "song I love that I'm embarrassed about"?
A guilty pleasure is something one enjoys and considers pleasurable despite feeling guilt for enjoying it. The "guilt" involved is sometimes simply fear of others discovering one's lowbrow or otherwise embarrassing tastes, such as campy styles of entertainment. Fashion, video games, bachata, music, films and junk food can be examples of guilty pleasures.
We needed a just plain "Rock" category but I don't see why it can't go into Metal/Hair.
For TFP too.We needed a just plain "Rock" category but I don't see why it can't go into Metal/Hair.
What an all time awesome song, obviously.
that is why we do theseas much as I am a fan of 80s music, there is a TON of songs here that I don't know
