80's movies - which stand the test of time (1 Viewer)

Running Scared (with Billy Crystal, Gregory Hines and Jimmy Smits) was another great 80s movies.

I think it was mentioned in here somewhere, but Overboard has been a favorite of my now 13 year old daughter for a few years now.

Spies Like Us

Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor films

I had a friend in school who had satellite TV (remember the big dishes) with all the movie channels and he'd record tons of movies. Late 80s and he'd bring me VHS tapes all the time with 2-3 movies each in them and my dad and I would have our weekend movie binges. Good times.

Ok.  It wasn't "this be Milt" it was "this being Milt"

Time - Phrase

00:53:29 Not one minute longer or Milt will come for you.

00:53:33 Milt?

00:53:34 This being Milt.

00:53:38 Pretty heavy, hey, dude?

00:53:45 Girls back in 45 minutes
I just bet my balls............and shook on it.

Love this movie. So gritty in its own way.
I was thinking about the syntax and how it affected the overall mood... particularly in the more expository passages. The fifth chapter.. Where Honey meets the entire Australian soccer team.

Yes, I did that from memory.

Watched Three O' Clock High thanks to the link. Holds up so well. So dystopic. I love how the end ends up with him and three women desiring him, kissing them in front of one another, never apologizing, never settling. Weird little period piece. Great stuff.

I never see it on any channel anymore,  which doesn't bode well, but I could see Johnny Dangerously holding up okay, especially since it was a period piece.

Just watched Hot Dog...The Movie again a few weeks ago. Popped into my head for some reason. Still holds up. Quite a few laughs and T&A all over the place. Good skiing too.

And of course "whatta da fuqua isa chinese downhill!?!"  :lmao:

I recently read/saw a behind the scenes story about that movie, and seems like it was a perfect storm of ingredients- -right director and Animal House-like setting and complete freedom--that made it overachieve.

I see that Hot Dog clocks in on Rotten Tomatoes at 30%; Hamburger checks in at 52%.   Of course,  they had a couple of years to tweak the recipe between the 2.

To Live and Die in L.A.

sort of.  If you can get past the Wang Chung soundtrack and seeing Defoe's ### every 10 minutes and William Petersen's dong - then it's a pretty entertaining cop movie.

Watched War Games again the other night. It's clearly dated some now but still enjoyable.
It's a wonder Ally Sheedy didn't turn into a bigger star especially with WarGames, Breakfast Club, St. Elmo's Fire, and Short Circuit all in a row.
