______ Passed Away Today, RIP (5 Viewers)

RIP Martin Mull.
Underrated....

From the vault..

Two years ago the Browns invited Mull to a practice and had him try a 20-yard field goal under game conditions. "They even called timeout to make me think about it," says Mull. He recalls that the team "gave me [jersey] number 38, the one worn by Sam Baker, the worst kicker the Browns ever had. That way I had no expectations to live up to." Mull was disappointed that his kick just barely made it through the uprights, so he stepped up his training. A year later, with the help of some tips from Browns kicker Matt Bahr, who has become a good friend, Mull hit three 40-yarders before a Cleveland-Tampa Bay exhibition game. "He works very hard at his routine, he's deadpan in his delivery and he's funny to watch," says Bahr.

Mull, 46, hit a personal-record 47-yarder during one of his practice sessions this year, and he says his goal is to "kick my age until I'm 64, at which point I'll eclipse Tom Dempsey's NFL record for the longest field goal."

Mull also recorded several hilarious albums. Here is one of my favorite songs off his "Normal" album:

First Verse:
I'm only as good as the woman I'm with
If she's a devil then I find her level I'm flexible
I'm only as smart as the woman I'm with
If she's a dunce then I'm stupid at once I'm flexible

Mull was great. And was doing good comedic work for a long long time.

I probably first saw him in Mr. Mom. Mull celebrating the employee picnic Olympics lol

Mull and Fred Willard in Fernwood 2 Night. Before my time, but I caught a lot in replays on random UHF channels and YouTube. One would think with unlimited channels, and billions of podcasts, someone would be making something this funny. But, no. Here's where they interview a Jew who was stopped for speeding in town.

Mull and Tim Curry in Clue (This is WAR Peacock!)

Mull and Jessica Walter in Arrested Development. Every second those two were on screen together when Gene Parmesan made an appearance was classic.

And here he is, randomly being the meanest pharmacist in the world.

The History of White People in America

Around 95 I was doing a lot of traveling and the company I worked for put us up in a lot of Red Roof Inns. At the time Mull was the their spokesman or something. Mull was recorded for a bunch of humorous videos as part of their interactive TV programming in the motels.

I can imagine him looking at me right now saying something sarcastic in response to being remembered for such a dopey thing.

RIP

Shelley Duvall 😢

McCabe and Mrs Miller 1971
Film stars Warren Beatty and really this should be on the guy's hit list around here but it appeals to more than just guys, Mrs liked this film as well.
Shelly makes a nice appearance and this is about a decade prior to The Shining

Duval would be in 7 different Robert Altman films, safe to say that Altman thought very highly of her
-I never thought Shelly was much of a looker, I saw her in Popeye and other films but then I saw her in this film I mentioned above when she was just 22 years old

RIP Shelly

Shelley Duvall 😢

First thing I think about when I hear her name is Olive Oyl to Robin Williams' Popeye
Perfect casting as Olive Oyl imo. The movie also featured Ray Walston as Poopdeck Pappy.

I can't remember who played Bluto, but NFL coach Matt Patricia would have been about right for the role.

Dr Ruth dies...she was 96

I think I first saw her on Late Night With David Letterman. He said when the show first started they couldn't book the more mainstream talk show guests so they had Dr. Ruth, Brother Theodore, Harvey Pekar, etc. on the show.

I probably first saw her on Johnny Carson. Liked her right off.

Yep, that was my introduction as well. What a pioneer. Loved that little lady.

Simmons was never popularly associated with New Orleans, but he was born and raised here. He remained in Louisiana through his college years.

My mother and her childhood friends knew him as Milton Simmons growing up. I will have to call her and ask if she’s heard.

He is the most famous (AFAIK) graduate of my HS in New Orleans. As much as that was a joke brought up he did a lot of good for folks trying to lose weight. He was a genuinely good dude.
