______ Passed Away Today, RIP (1 Viewer)

David Johansen, New York Dolls Frontman and Punk Pioneer, Dead at 75. Singer and actor, who scored a hit with "Hot Hot Hot" as his alter ego Buster Poindexter.

RIP

Placeholder for edit. RIP to a guy that sounds like a really good person from a particular place and time. One of my favorite bands (New York Dolls) and I was just asked who they were by the girl at the convenience store. I explained briefly and got a thumbs up and an affirmative nod. I am actually sitting here in SoCal with the shirt on and about to order a sort of deluxe treatment of the original NYD album, which is ready to go in another browser. I almost ordered a shirt to defray his medical costs and I still think I might (and ought).

Long story short: big fan here, and RIP to him and condolences to friends and family.
RIP but this also happened a few months ago. It was mentioned here.

Yeah, like a month and a half or so. I was unable to comment and figured I wouldn’t correct a person for posting late. (Or did I comment?)

Eta* died Feb. 28th, 2025. RIP.
I'm way late as always. Sorry for the dupe.

Fine by me. Gave me a second chance to pay tribute.

Lalo Schifrin, composer, at 93. He wrote that catchy Mission Impossible theme amongst many other fine tunes.
Also recorded an interesting version of Jaws in 1976, a year after the movie came out. Would probably have been the soundtrack version used if the movie was set in Studio 54 rather than Amity Beach.
Whoa! That is hella different. I like it.

Sounds like a Quinn Martin Production.

He had a really good show in Sirius XM's The Loft channel called The Mansion Of Fun. It ran every Sunday for 3 hours starting at noon ET. When he passed away, one of the Loft-related FB pages had a mentioned that they'd continue to run encore episodes. And there's a lot of them - he had to have done that show for 15 years at least.

Great comment below the YouTube clip: "You're gonna need a bigger dance floor."

But I digress - RIP to one of the top composers of the movie/TV theme genre.

D. Wayne Lukas

They just announced he was sick a few weeks ago, and that he opted to skip treatment and spend the time he had left with family. At least he got to train horses almost all the way to the very end.

edit - whoops looks like @Ben & Jerry's beat me by a nose

RIP Coach. Met him at DMR a long time ago. A legend in the horseracing world.

MLB HOFer Dave Parker

That guy may have been the most talented baseball player I've ever seen.
There's a great baseball podcast I listen to called "Lost Ballparks". The interviewer (I forget his name) interviewed Parker a couple of years ago before Alzheimers started taking its toll. Guy and his staff really do their homework and Parker had some good stories. Highly recommend it especially for Cobra fans

This was my guy growing up as a kid, favorite player when baseball was my thing. The swag was off the charts. RIP Cobra.
Mine too, and I can't even tell ya why I liked the Pirates in that era. I was/am a big Cubs fan, but for some reason loved the Pirates ... and Parker especially.

He was just a badass. My mom was the big baseball fan of my parents and she emailed me about the story of his passing on Saturday. Talked about how I always asked what Parker did, wanted all his stuff etc.

She mentioned that she always he impressed that he was a clearly a star and had flash but never appeared ego driven or rude. Things she appreciated as a parent I guess.

I think part of it was I was like 8 or 9 years old and just liked the sound of his name.... Dave Parker... sounded like the incognito alias of a superhero or something.

Brian Wilson
Cause(s) of death of Brian Wilson:
Beach Boys founding member Brian Wilson's cause of death at 82 has been released. The music icon, who helped define the Southern California surf-rock sound in the 1960s, died after experiencing several minutes of respiratory arrest on the morning of June 11 in his Beverly Hills, California, home, according to a death certificate obtained by USA TODAY June 30. Respiratory arrest occurs when a person stops breathing. Several hours of sepsis, which is a life-threatening bodily response to an infection, per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and days of cystitis, or a bladder infection, were mentioned as contributing causes.

He also had a neurodegenerative disorder, obstructive sleep apnea, chronic respiratory failure and chronic kidney disease.

He survived a lot longer than someone with his conditions should have, but sad nonetheless. Hope he didn't suffer at the end and at least he's at peace now, knowing much of the world will celebrate his contributions forever.

Michael Madsen

Damn. RIP buddy.

Did wonderful in Donnie Brasco. He had a ton of solid roles. So young at 67.
That sucks. Too young. Sounds like he was still very involved in a number of things including not only acting, but writing a book, etc. Lost his son in 2022 to suicide. :crying:

Michael Madsen

One of my all time favorite actors and yes he can be difficult for other actors to work with but he does/did things so many others simply cannot pull off on screen
I saw him on podcasts in recent years and he looked rough but generally happy

Will be sorely missed by many
