He was a Sportscaster here in Indianapolis in the 70s. Probably remembered most fondly for his work as part of the Save the Pacers Telethon.

After a wildly successful decade in the American Basketball Association – that included 3 league championships and attendance records – the Indiana Pacers paid a steep price to become an NBA team: a $3.2 million dollar entry fee and a four year ban from sharing in TV revenues.
  That's a yikes from me, dawg.  The NBA was definitely the Little Sisters of the Poor back then.

The NBA's TV revenues were so insignificant that they paid off the owners of the Spirits Of St. Louis with a promise of 2% of the league's TV contracts -- for life. That deal ended up costing the NBA around $800 million.

I can't help but wonder how the other former ABA owners must have felt about that deal. Three teams folded before the merger was announced -- if they could have just held on for a few more months, they might be billionaires right now.

Watergate Conspirator James McCord died two years ago.  But his death was never announced, and newspapers are just picking up on it now.  I feel like if I was inexorably linked to the only resignation by a President in history, fading that far into obscurity that my death would go unnoticed for two years would be a fine way to go.

James W. McCord Jr., a retired CIA employee who was convicted as a conspirator in the Watergate burglary and later linked the 1972 break-in to the White House in revelations that helped end the presidency of Richard M. Nixon, died June 15, 2017, at his home in Douglassville, Pa. He was 93.

The cause was pancreatic cancer, according to his death certificate obtained at the Berks County Register of Wills office in Reading, Pa.

Mr. McCord’s death was first reported in “Dirty Tricks,” a 2018 history of the Watergate investigation by filmmaker Shane O’Sullivan. But the news did not appear in local or national media outlets and surfaced online only in March, when the website Kennedys and King published an obituary referencing his gravesite in Pennsylvania....

The ghost of the Nixon administration covered up McCord's death for two years.

Hondo , damn
I was around 10 or so, and was just old enough to be walking around Rikes department store in downtown Dayton by myself (my mom was in the store ...).   I walked past a card table with a guy just sitting there by himself ...no one around.  I mean no one.  I glanced again, and saw the 8x10 glossies and a small sign on a tripod - John Havlicek/autograph session ...or something like that.

I was amazed that no one was around.  I don't remember the conversation, but I remember he was really nice and soft-spoken.  I still have that signed picture around somewhere.

From age 5 or so, me uncle took me to every Sunday Celtics home game. Great era to be going to Celtics games and Bill Russell became the athlete i most respected & admired as a result. To be honest, though, Hondo was the guy i couldnt take my eyes away from. To this day, the most relentless athlete i've ever seen. And, unlike most legendary hustlers, he was never rushed nor furied. He just kept running, looking, trying this, eyeing that, digging in, breaking out. Remarkable effort, totally measured at all times. A true sport. RIP -

Funniest comment I saw online... in a discussion of "Who Should Be The Next James Bond?" the idea came up of having a female play the part. Then it got to "what kind of double-entendre name would they give the male love interest if James Bond was a woman?" and the top answer was 'Roger More'. :lmao:
Steele Johnson IMO.

Trans female bond would get Hunter Johnson.
