______ Passed Away Today, RIP (6 Viewers)

This one hurts 😢
Hard to believe he was 80.  I think he was the first Ranger to have his number retired.
Yes, Mr. Ranger was the first to have his number retired back in 1979. The fact that only 9 numbers have been retired shows how he stands in Ranger lore (although Henrik Lundqvist will make it 10 numbers this coming season).

Rod was ever-present around MSG forever, even in recent years - had no idea he was even sick. :(  Universally viewed by the hockey community as a real classy guy.

As one famous story from the band’s heyday goes, Jagger once phoned Watts’ hotel room in the midst of an all-night party asking “Where’s my drummer?” Watts reportedly got up, shaved, dressed in a suit, put on a tie and freshly shined shoes, descended the stairs, and punched Jagger in the face, saying: “Don’t ever call me your drummer again. You’re my ####ing singer!”

Legend.

An old drummer friend of mine (touring pro guy...he played for Paul Young and a zillion others) posted something on LinkedIn not long ago congratulating a friend of his who was going to be filling in for Watts on upcoming Stones gigs/tour. Got me thinking and worried about Watts as I hadn't heard anything about his health... RIP- an absolute legend and one of the coolest seeming dudes out there.

The Stones have seemed immortal forever. Makes you wonder how long the other guys will last.

I can remember working the summer after I graduated HS and it was a big deal Mick Jagger turned 40. Now people are like reminiscing of the good old days of the Steel Wheel tour (1989-90) when Mick could still get around on stage

I saw the Stones in Boston in 2013 or 2014, whenever their 50 and counting tour took place.  Mick was getting around plenty well then still.

He had some kind of procedure a few months ago, said he was good but doctor encouraged him to sit out this tour.

It is a bummer because I had tickets to see the Stones last year but Covid ruined that.   But I'll be going this October and I expect there will be a tribute to Charlie...

His friend filling in for Charlie is Steve Jordan, maybe best known as a resident drummer on SNL and David Letterman.

Steve Jordan is a monster on drums. Yet he only plays what the song needs.

Charlie Watts had the perfect feel for what the Stones did, or maybe a lot of the reason the Stones sound like they do is because of Watts's feel.

Damn. Truly a legend and a groove that will never be replaced
The irony is that Watt’s real musical passion was jazz. In later years he’d put together different groups.
Watts always had his hand in multiple genres. In tribute: Charlie Watts on the kit standing right up to Howlin' Wolf (vox) and Eric Clapton (guitar) -- "Killing Floor" (1971)

British comedian Sean Locke died.

I stumbled upon him years ago when I stopped watching regular TV and caught Brit TV game shows and this guy and his odd-ball comedy.  He would just go off the reservation and everyone would go with him to this odd Sean Locke world that was ...

 Just brilliant.

Sean Locke Those kids were sh!t

Sean Locke's greatest achievement Rectum of the Year

Sean Locke Makes Jimmy Carr cry from laughing

Sean Locke Carrot in a box

spent the last week hitting youtube for doses of this bloke - gleefully mean & perversely decent man. the stand-up is good, but those relaxed-format, game/chat shows (like the 8 out of 10 Cats "panel" show that featured Locke as in Bracie's links) the British have are sumn i'd to like to watch here. so bittersweet that his passing is the only reason i found out about him - he's really brightened my week. RIP -

If you like 8 out of 10 does countdown then you have to check out WILTY

I'd suggest starting with season 3 to present.  Sean Lock made appearances as did Jimmy Carr.

Some of my favorite episodes:

Season 8 episode 6 Rickshaw story

Season 4 episode 3  Horse Story

Season 7 episode 8  Airship story

Been a WILTY fan for many years. Big fan. Being adapted for the US but it'll suck. Still, UK version is awesome.

Lee's invite to the royal wedding one of the funniest things I've seen.

Wow, that's brilliant.  Unfortunately in America it will end up like this.

agreed ...but gotta tell you, the people in that video were pretty ####### funny in their day

and btw ...to say that uk humor is more sophisticated and/or more progressive than american humor is pretentious

Monty Python blew the lid off of things for skit comedy - can't be compared ...but stand up ...not even close - 'Merica!!!

come at me.

It's not the people, it's the construct.  We can't even do Password or Hollywood Squares right anymore.  Funny, smart people given the time and space to be naturally funny.  It's all quick one-liners, that aren't that funny.  You can see in the Brit videos, the brilliant people are the producers.  They set up the funny stuff.  The funny people work it.

Our producers don't have the patience for funny, on those types of shows.

All I will say in response is, attend the Just for Laughs comedy festival in Montreal or watch videos from it. You will see amazing comedians from all over the world. They may not be as famous as some of their American counterparts, but they are just as funny.
