______ Passed Away Today, RIP (11 Viewers)

Not a familiar name to many: Former University of Maryland basketball player, assistant coach under Gary Williams during the national championship run, Billy Hahn, aged 69.

While he spent more time in the game away from College Park, including a run as an assistant at West Virginia, Hahn recruited to Maryland many of the players from their national championship team.

This one hurt because I remember him as a player who didn't see much time on the floor but was a hard-nosed competitor that used that same approach to his whole life.

Al Jaffee, cartoonist for MAD Magazine, most notably the fold-in comics (inspired by the Playboy centerfold and LIFE fold-outs), aged 102. Was recognized by Guinness for the longest career as a cartoonist when his career span reached 73 years and 3 months (he kept on for another 4 years after setting the record).

MAD magazine was THE magazine when I was a kid. Always got mom to spring for a copy when the new one came out (monthly I recall) when we were on the grocery store trips ...and Lawson's for the chip dip and chipped chop ham :)

National Lampoon didn't come out until I was almost 13, and then that changed my world.

Jaffee also came up with Snappy Answers to Stupid Questions.

Just reminiscing about Ian Bairnson today, listening to him on different AP albums, and found this link on YouTube

Though it doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of his greatness, it does highlight some of his best solo work. Thought I’d share. Enjoy.

One last one. This video was shot a few years back by a fellow Parsoniac friend of mine, Fazil Okudan, of just Ian and his guitar.

Probably my favorite solo of his from an AP album:

I could listen to him all day. RIP Ian

Hobie Landrith, at 93.

THE original N.Y. Metropolitan Baseball Club's member - their first selection in the '61 expansion draft.

however, he may be even more notable to this particular board because of this:

Landrith spent 30 years working for Volkswagen, most of that time as an Ombudsman

✌️ 🙏

Jerry Springer, age 79.
I remember trying to explain The Jerry Springer Show to my kids a while back. I imagine they still think that I was just making some of that up. This will always be part of my college years, like Sportscenter with Dan Patrick and Keith Olbermann and BodyShaping with Kiana.

Tell me you're in your early 50s without saying you're in your early 50s....yeah, we watched A LOT of Jerry in the frat house. BodyShaping was only trumped by MTV Spring Break.

And Aussie rules football if you want to go back a few years. 👇👇

One thing I remember about Springer is when he was mayor of Cincinnati and organized the first ever rock concert at Riverfront stadium in 1978, featuring Eddie Money (two tickets to paradise), The Steve Miller band (came out with album Book of Dreams the year earlier), and the headliner was the Eagles. Joe Walsh just came out with Life's been good. All these bands in their prime. It was over a 100 degrees that day on the field and they had sprinklers set up. I was in the nose bleeds, but it was memorable. It cooled down a lot when the Eagles came on.

Which one is you?

Much loved icon and well respected by other musicians.
I have seen this Bob Dylan quote on the Twitters: “I can’t think of any Gordon Lightfoot song I don’t like. Every time I hear a song of his, it’s like I wish it would last forever.”

When he received a Lifetime Achievement Juno (Canadian equivalent of the Grammy's), Bob presented him. Bobby Zimmerman preceded Gordie by about 2 years on the Greenwich Village folk scene in the early 60s and they became close friends.

The lyrics of his pop hits are forever ingrained in our memories, but I was a little late to realize what an massive legend he is in Canada.

Gord literally worked until his last days. I believe he had a concert series lineup up a couple weeks before his passing. He loved his life and the joy it brought his fans.

Will be sorely missed RIP

Awesome find!! That sure would have been a shocker if I popped up in that video. It's one of my most memorable concerts. I was 19.
