A few Footballguys Magazines Still Left! - Something Fun Announcing Monday... Would Love Your Support (7 Viewers)

Both my son and i received them on Monday
I appreciated the layout and also the Bloom 250 with some quick thoughts on the inside back cover, fun read in the morning over coffee
I like the way it moves quickly thru the rounds or about the ADP for players at all skill positions.

-example is "WR Projection Takeways", I like the way Woody moves thru it without over selling just specific players. You miss out on one rookie WR, maybe you look at another.
Several WRs entering Year 2 that maybe didn't blowup their rookie season, that type of quick analysis when you are cruising thru your drafts, speeds things up and expands tiers so you don't get hung up on a single player.

It's an impressive magazine vs what I've seen in others. Easy to read, easy to jump around to whatever position is of interest

Anxiously waiting for it to arrive. I don't see it in informed delivery on the USPS site though. Hopefully tomorrow. My first big draft of the year is Saturday so I want to consume as much of it as I can before then.
Mine just showed up in 'USPS informed delivery' this afternoon (after today's mail was delivered); it's scheduled for a Thursday delivery (I'm in PA and pre-ordered in July)

Thank you @ICLight

Have you received any more updates for this? Is it still showing Thursday?
I was mistaken...it was a different package that showed up in my informed delivery. The magazine hasn't showed up there yet. Sorry for the confusion.

Still nothing here. I can't figure out a way to have informed delivery show me anything but what's arriving on the current day or the last few days. So no idea if it's close, or coming (I have no reason to believe it isn't coming).

Sorry GB. What state are you in? I'm at a loss too on why Informed Delivery seems to show different people different things.

It would have likely costed more but I think a service like UPS or Fed-ex might have got there faster.

Yes, that's what I'm seeing now. We spent a little over $7,000 to offer the free shipping for the 3,000 magazines shipped from the printer.

In hindsight, I should have charged for shipping and gone with the UPS that's about three times the price. We were assured by the printer that the method we used would be 3-5 Business Days and I failed to press them hard enough to make certain.

I'm in Michigan, but even better (or in the case of shipping, even worse) I live in the Upper Peninsula. Stuff often takes 30-100% longer to get here.

Thanks. I've seen a few folks about that distance away have USPS showing a Monday 8/18 delivery. Hang in there.

If it is a printer that mails regularly they know that media mail isn't 3-5 business days. You were fed a line of BS

Could they have meant that it would take THEM 3-5 days to print it and ship it out? They aren't the USPS, so they wouldn't know how long it would take the mail to deliver it. I know way too little about this but when I sold some stuff on ebay it never took horribly long to ship things so I don't know what happened.

I have a theory about the delayed delivery. Someone with the USPS got wind of these golden tickets and hijacked a whole pallet. Wait till they find out they are not really gold. Maybe just worth their weight in gold to us FF freaks.
This could also be a Wonka type situation with a billionaire parent of an FBG-er buying up the pallets through bribes and other nefarious means & is employing an entire company of people to open them looking for golden tickets? I mean, it’s worth considering.

Media mail is one of the cheapest rates so it's low priority for the post office. 3-5 days was wishful thinking. Heck, you mail something from Missouri to Washinton state first class it would take 3-5 days. I'm in the printing business and we do regular mailings. Anyone that's dealt with the post office on a regular basis knows how dysfunctional it is. I would never promise a customer a 3-5 delivery date using media mail. But I also operate under the under promise, over deliver philosophy. If the printer you used has experience with magazine mailings I'd trust their timeline but it seems like they overpromised.

I get your frustration and I'm sure your printer is just as frustrated. I've been there. The post office is the worst run organization/business bar none. There is no consistency from one post office branch to the next. Your local post office could be great but there's a pretty good chance that magazine is going to travel thru a postal facility that isn't going to know what they are doing. And there goes your 3-5 day timeline.

I was about to say this but knew in my heart it had already been said.

Mine arrived!

I've only flipped through it to see the overall content but this is a very good magazine on first glance.

First off, the print quality is top tier. This can barely be considered a magazine. It's more like a large paperback book.

What makes these magazines go out of date is the focus on individual player profiles a lot of magazines take. Then players get hurt and all of this is obsolete. Instead of doing this, FBG put a larger emphasis on overall game theory which is much less impacted by training camp news. Yes, there are individual blurbs on players to target/avoid, but there seems to be a far greater emphasis on overall draft theory which is fantastic.

My favorite will certainly be going through the staff mock draft and writeup where each staffer talks about their approach.
The bolded is much more interesting to me than 100 pages of July player rankings. I can get up-to-the minute player news 24/7 elsewhere (here in the SP, FBG.com, elsewhere). I'm glad Joe went this route.

For someone to complain that their draft is coming up and hint that not having the magazine will hurt them made me laugh out loud.

I use media mail for records and it usually takes less than a week. That's odd it would be taking longer. UPS is actually worse in my experience and most buyers prefer media mail. I guess you could call me an FBG honk, but I'm not sure what they could have done. FedEx is much worse than USPS or UPS.

Delivery times for media mail can vary widely. From the post office's one website media mail can take 2-9 days. So you receiving/shipping records using media mail and only taking a week isn't surprising. Also explains why some are have received their magazines already. We are coming up on the 9 days outside limit so I would expect magazines will start showing up in people's mailboxes by the weekend.

And in my experience USPS is cheaper when shipping smaller items. UPS is cheaper if you want to ship larger packages. The biggest difference is that when UPS tells you it will be there on Tuesday 99.9% of the time it will be there on Tuesday. The post office is a crap shoot.

If I were Joe and to do it again next year, I would offer a free media mail option and the option to pay for first class mailing. Not sure how the printer handles the mailing list though so not sure if that would be an option.

Yes. I wanted to give the customer free shipping. But in hindsight, maybe I should have gone with a more expensive and faster shipping. I was nervous as our magazine cost $5 more than the other fantasy football magazines. Once you see it and hold it, I think you'll understand why. But it's tough to convey that online.

Learning experience.

Day 4 by the mailbox...wife brought out a cooler of water today. Quick question. Are they packaged like the old Playboy's? In a nice blacked out plastic wrap? If not, maybe my mailman is driving around with it getting ready for his draft. Might have to shake him down today. Will advise later today.
Patiently waiting too.
I got Gatorade in my cooler :banned:

I would have my favorite flavored water in that cooler.....beer 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺

Anyway, something I noticed while perusing the mag today....there are exactly zero advertisements. Zero advertising dollars to offset the costs of the mag for FBG. I counted two full page FBG adds, pages 2 & 164 of 164 total pages. All other pages are crock full of fantasy football content. Worth. Every. Penny.

@Joe Bryant KUDOS to Jake Bryant and Sam Bryant, whom I assume are your progeny, who each played a significant role in making the mag a reality. Thanks again!!

I'm hearing some people are receiving notifications from either the Shopify app or also from USPS if they're signed up for their Informed Delivery service. Some people are saying the expected arrival date is 8/18.

Has anyone seen a notification like that? If so, can you please let me know in detail what it was and what it said?
Yes - I presume. Providing because you asked, not as a complaint.

From informed delivery-

Aug 18 Expected Delivery by 8:00pm

Aug 13 6:50 am - In Transit to Next Facility

Aug 12 5:11 pm - Arrived at USPS Regional Origin Facility KANSAS CITY MO DISTRIBUTION CENTER
Aug 12 3:56 pm - Accepted at USPS Origin Facility MARCELINE,MO 64658
Aug 04 12:00 am - Pre-Shipment, USPS Awaiting Item

I suspect from experience tracking such things that this will likely arrive in Dallas and then Coppell tonight and then deliver either tomorrow or Friday.

Thank you! That's super helpful.

I'm not familiar with this service so all this is super helpful. To be clear, you're saying often things arrive sooner than the date it's saying now?

That if it says a Monday delivery, you would expect it to likely arrive Thursday or Friday?
Yes. Some of this is a guess and some of this experience and some of this is trusting what was communicated to you via your vendor. But I suspect that on Aug 4th your vendor printed out whatever number of shipping labels and provided that information to the post office. By Aug 6th or 7th they dropped off the pallets of all of these to the MARCELINE,MO post office. (You have said from Missouri.) Normally when the items are dropped off like this there is a "Shipment Received, Package Acceptance Pending" status meaning that your package is among a bunch of others that was dropped off. As you see I didn't get this status at any point, which is disappointing as it would be super helpful for you to know. That is assuming that this is what happened here.

Anyway, eventually the post office opens the pallets and scans individual items, this is the "Accepted at USPS Origin Facility". This seems to be post office dependent for how long it sits. And I guess it is also dependent on other volumes. In my experience however once that happens the package usually gets to me sooner than the post office states as long as it hits the correct facilities. Frustrating delays after this point happen when the package bounces between facilities. I guess gets placed on the wrong truck. If this happens then I'm not getting it on the 18th either. But if it doesn't, and it usually doesn't I suspect that it gets here sooner than the 18th.

Also note, I ordered 5 magazines so maybe mine is packaged differently from singles? Hopefully I'm not teasing you and others with my expectations that turn out false, or just that I live in the right place for such things.

Good luck!
Still think before Monday.

Thank you @Pickle Rody. Yes, I'm super proud and feel fortunate to be able to work with my two sons. And thank you for noticing about no ads. That too was an intentional decision in trying to make the magazine as good as it could be. I had a very particuilar vibe I was going for and on something this much of a "statement" thing, I didn't want to give up any control to anyone else on even a single page. We do a lot of things like that leaving money on the table. But it felt like the right thing.

That's part of why I think too personally some of the "what a mess" or "huge whiff" messages I get on this. It is what it is. But thank you for noticing there.

Well, I shook her down, and she had no idea what i was talking about so I finally let her go. Onto Day 5....thank the lord it's summer here in Buffalo and not January. Weather has been absolutely fantastic to sit at the curb all week. Although, neighbors are now starting to ask questions.

Joe, the email I just got from you, above and beyond IMO.

I do like having physical media but have largely gone digital in the last year or more (last physical fantasy mag I bought was probably 5 years ago). So, what you've offered is more than enough to help me prep for my big draft on Saturday.
Agreed. I really hope no one takes Joe up on his way too generous offer of a full refund. Stuff happens, and its out of Joe and staff's hands. They did something great for the community putting this together, and I hope no one takes advantage to save themselves a few bucks.

While I'd love to have the mag in my hands right now, the pdf version will tide me over until that point. Much appreciated, can't wait to take a look!

From above -
I suspect ...
arrive in Dallas √
Coppell √
deliver either tomorrow X or Friday ??.
Here are the updated tracking as promised.

Aug 13 2:20 pm - Arrived at USPS Facility DALLAS,TX 75211
Aug 13 10:41 pm - Departed USPS Facility DALLAS,TX 75211
Aug 13 11:30 pm - Arrived at USPS Regional Facility COPPELL TX DISTRIBUTION CENTER

Thank you. That's super helpful.

We had a customer that was told Monday by USPS who lives in Charlotte but it was already in NC last night. Hopefully it's there earlier than the estimation. Hope same for you. Thank you.
Nothing changed in the scan history, but USPS now agrees with me on the top line.

Expected Delivery
by 8:00pm

Hope this is true your other 2995 preorders, or at least the ones that are still outstanding. Oh, and I only usually watch this tracking this closely when it is a few days before Christmas and that perfect gift hasn't arrived. When I started to type that sentence I wasn't intending to make an analogy, but hopefully that fits anyway.

Good luck!

Scan History:
Aug 18 Expected Delivery by 8:00pm
Aug 13 9:42 am - In Transit, Arriving On Time
Aug 13 6:50 am - In Transit to Next Facility
Aug 13 1:58 am - Departed USPS Regional Facility KANSAS CITY MO DISTRIBUTION CENTER

Never heard of a FF magazine without ads. First of its kind. Checking the mailbox in Ohio with anticipation till she arrives.

Going to let that sexy centerfold image flip open at our local draft party. Always keep em guessing.
