It's hard to imagine any semi-powerful man or woman who hasn't accepted the privileges of their position when it comes to obtaining sexual gratification. Not talking about Boston-Strangler-style rape, not talking about Cosby-style druggings, not talking about Donald-Trump-style sexual assault. Not talking about "Do/watch this if you want to work". Not talking about walking around through dressing rooms. Not talking about pressing up against someone in a crowd.

Talking about what reasonable people would agree are lesser things than all of the above (and similar). There can't be a semi-powerful person who hasn't done something low-ish key, but still bothered the recipient. Right?

 
I have never watched the Today Show, might have to do with the fact that I'm not a morning person. I don't get why those morning shows are so popular. :shrug:

Without evidence: no way, in all these decades, he has never crossed where the 2017 line is drawn. Dude has money. Dude has travelled (away from eyes that would matter). Pre-social media, pre-Internet. He can't have an immaculate record. I can believe 99.99% clean, but not immaculate.

The 2017 line, I'm talking about. I can totally believe that Buffet never crossed the, say, 1990 pre-Anita-Hill line.

There is a weird clip of old show with him running around with no pants asking one of the female employees if they want a drink of milk. It certainly plays in a different light now.

Warren is married and has a girlfriend.  He might even live with her.  He is not squeaky clean for sure.

 
Lauer always came off to me as kinda creepy so this really wasn't a huge surprise but with how quick it went down was.I remember well his flirtation he always had with Giada every time she was on the show and I must admit most times I saw Giada I needed a quick release soon after.Thankfully I'm not on morning tv for all to see my glory.

 
I was caught up in a mess and had to testify because of a woman lying about rape, a semi-celeb male chartered a flight and he was accused of some bad things. We had cameras as they got off the plane at the airport we landed at... her punishment for almost ruing a mans life with lies and pure vindictive evilness...probation. He went to trial, I was one of the last witnesses, before the closing arguments a video surfaced at the airport we landed with things not working out exactly as she said, in fact it proved the opposite. How close did he come to going away from his family because of a womans word, man that jury was eating it up. That video came out and you can see that they were embarrassed with themselves. I learned a lot about society hat day.

We need to relax about how we are just trusting women, they can make elaborate stories like anyone, details from an accuser never means proof. You can get yourself in trouble just trusting people, we have learned that as kids.

Now, if we had proof like a video where a person admits to say, grabbing them by the...well, you get the point, that would be something of an admission of guilt. IF Matt has one of them, I hope he gets his "time in the barrel."

As someone else kind of said, my biggest surprise with so many of these stories is not that it's happening to so many people, but that so few people seem to be denying the accusations once they surface. Unless they are slow-playing it, which doesn't seem to be happening from anyone yet.

This is a hard topic to discuss, because it seems any time you try to defend the male sex it appears you approve of assault. Its like talking race, it cant reasonably be discussed because no one wants to include the nuance. I will defend my male brothers until proof is put forth after some of the crazy things I have seen. I in no way support the crimes, but I do support proof of said crimes before I n longer support. If needing proof makes me the bad guy, then so be it. We always look at like defending our sex is a bad thing. Women defend women, races defend races and elderly defend elderly...I will not feel guilty for defending men, I do not defend men proven to do such crimes though.

Can I make a point about these "what if it was your daughter" argument...what if it was your son being accused, wouldnt you want proof? Its not my daughter, so I see it more objectively, of course if it was my daughter it would be different and blinded by family love to defend my daughter at all costs. Lets be rational. I will not feel for others what I feel for my family, its a false equivalency. I also will not just trust a woman I never met as if she is incapable of lying. What are we doing, all of a sudden trusting people. I remember we used to trust people to get on planes without guns and bombs....now we have metal detectors.

Celebrities are prime targets, they will continue to pour out...how many will be false? The odds alone say some already are.

I think the takeaway should be...you don't need to defend anyone you don't know. Lauer could be a complete sociopath for all any of us know. Why feel the need to defend someone from an accusation when you're only seeing the image that he literally projects to the world? 

 
I am with you on that, but its more about how easy it is to just accuse a man. It has simply become, get accused, lose your job. My defense of men is more along the lines that we cant just becomes a sex who tolerates that either. Again, bring me proof, I will want to see his chestnuts roasted for sure. Dont get my point twisted by any means.

If I'm following this thread correctly, Matt Lauer and Garrison Keillor raped Corey Haim on the set of Lucas. I should note, I didn't read every page of the thread.

 
Never ever liked Matt Lauer. Smug, condescending and he was a doosh when he interviewed anyone who opposes his political or social views. Pure biased little dip ####. A horrible interviewer. 

But this is a shocker in that he is one of the most iconic morning show hosts in the history of television. His family must be so ashamed. I feel terrible for his wife and children. He has shamed not only himself, but more importantly the mother of his children (maybe there is more cough Natalie cough cough) and his family.

Doosh bag. 

For NBC to fire him like that, with his clout and popularity and heavy heavy contract (this putz makes over 30MM a year easy) it obviolusly was compelling proof and guilt was not in doubt one bit by their HR team and legal team.

why is this only for men? 

with many of these specific cases after the fact and without video or clear evidence, it becomes a he-said, she-said thing. but if woman after woman comes forward with similar stories... it starts to be more convincing for me. but innocent until proven guilty for sure. today's media and reader of the media wants to jump to every conclusion possible as soon as possible instead of waiting and getting the facts right. but again- men, women... I don't care who's making the claims- lets just wait and get the story right.

I was with you right up until the bolded part.  How about you let the so called targets start objecting before you start standing up for them?  Awful hard to argue false accusation when nobody is crying "innocent", imo.

All the elites must lead a different way of life.  I can't imagine finding out a guy my wife works with has been pinching her ### and not wanting to break his jaw.  Although I would probably like to break Matt Lauer's jaw because he just seemed like a condescending ##### before all of this came to light.
