Just finished that shark pool monstrosity about this. Please tell me no one here has offered the "I was beat as a kid, complete with battle wounds worse than this kid so what's the big deal?" excuse?
You find child abuse funny?Hope he dies in prison by rape. Beat a 4 year old boy on his scrotum. Wow. Die you piece of ####.![]()
God you're terribleThe tragic thing about this, beyond the story itself, is that Adrian Peterson is not just a star NFL running back. He may be the best running back ever. At the very least he has to be considered with the likes of Jim Brown, Walter Payton, Emmitt Smith, and Barry Sanders.
If he never plays another down of football because of this incident, he's already well worthy of the Hall of Fame, simply based on performance.
What's your grandma's phone number?Obviously your grandma never got you with a belt or a yardstick. Didn't happen very often because we knew if we were "very naughty" at Grandma's, we would get it twice. Once from Grandma and again when we got home from our parents. The best part of twitter right now is people who think their grandma's beatings are on par with a beating from Adrian Peterson.

Now we know how these things keep happening.just being human? that is ridiculous.Just another case of someone being human..........lets kill all humans.
People do this crap all the time.........it is just not football players...........if this is opening your eyes....well that is good but it also says you are truly ignorant and know nothing about the world we live in.just being human? that is ridiculous.Just another case of someone being human..........lets kill all humans.
it is not a human trait to beat kids multiple times with sticks. evidently you and i are living in different worlds then.People do this crap all the time.........it is just not football players...........if this is opening your eyes....well that is good but it also says you are truly ignorant and know nothing about the world we live in.just being human? that is ridiculous.Just another case of someone being human..........lets kill all humans.

A couple of those other guys are well known for their abuse too. Jim Brown is a notorious wife beater, and Emmitt Smith beat the English language to death. He may be the best running back ever. At the very least he has to be considered with the likes of Jim Brown, Walter Payton, Emmitt Smith, and Barry Sanders.
You forgot to add that it's white supremacy to force these black players to live by the white man's rule to not beat your wife or kid.Middle-class white people have been suppressing their hatred of black people for too long and they're finally letting it all out.
Yeah... granny got me good a couple times. She was still benching 315 going into her 70s. Those fast twitch muscle fibers were no joke. I'm pretty confident she could have run for 2k herself.snellman said:Obviously your grandma never got you with a belt or a yardstick. only if you stick his nose in itBustedKnuckles said:does a 4 yo even understand what he did wrong?Mister CIA said:The child was 4 years old and was violently struck 14 or 15 times. 14 or 15 strikes! ... 4 years old
Not discipline.
You nailed it. This is sickening. It is disgusting for anyone to beat a child. This is worse than Rice hitting his wife. A 4 year old is defenseless and likely does not even fully grasp just how wrong it is for his Daddy to bloody him. Peterson should be suspended by the Vikes right now.McGarnicle said:Was traveling today and heard the story on Sirius. They described "open wounds" and said the kid was 11. Later I heard he was actually 4 years old. It's hard for me to imagine beating a kid of any age, but 4 strikes me as especially cruel. I don't think it teaches anything but to fear your parents from an early age, and probably plants a nice seed of rage that will start to manifest in the teens.
I was actually relieved to see the pics because I pictured huge bloody gashes, like from the canings in Singapore. It's still awful, I'm just glad for the kid that it wasn't what I pictured.
Haven't read threads here yet because I'm trying to just wrap my head around this...
I remember interviews with Peterson years ago and he's clearly not intelligent. Apparently this is how he was raised and finds nothing wrong with it. I can understand that up to a point, but if you're going to bring a kid into the world, there is an obligation to learn lots of things, including proper discipline. To think that beating a 4y.o. with a stick until he bleeds is somehow going to teach him something, or toughen him up...I don't know, there's something way beyond discipline there. It strikes me as sadistic. I don't know if he's really so dumb as to think he was doing good or if he's just a sick #### who enjoyed it. I guess I can see both scenarios. Either way I think he deserves some jail time.
As for this season, no doubt in my mind, he needs to sit out. He admitted doing this to the kid, so screw waiting for the legal process. One way or another he should not play, whether it's a suspension or being deactivated.
What I'm curious about and haven't heard/read yet:
Until there is a conviction, is Goodell "allowed" under the CBA to suspend him? In other words, would the players association have grounds to fight it.
Say there's no suspension, if the Vikings simply deactivate him every week and continue to pay him, I assume he has no recourse to fight that either?
Yeah, the real tragedy about a 4 year old being beaten bloody with a stick is that the person who did the beating may not get into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, followed closely by the impact on Roddy White's fantasy team.timschochet said:The tragic thing about this, beyond the story itself, is that Adrian Peterson is not just a star NFL running back. Yeah, I have to admit, I was thrilled when I heard the story, so I could tell all my white middle class friends what a horrible Peterson is. That's what we do you know, just nonstop trashing of blacks. Love when they make it easy like this.TakiToki said:Middle-class white people have been suppressing their hatred of black people for too long and they're finally letting it all out.
If you're talking about my criminal record, sorry, I'm just a boring middle class white. Tell you what though, if I had done to a kid what Peterson did, it would easily vault to the top of the worst things I've ever done. Sorry if you feel it's too commonplace for all this outrage. Not really sure what point of view you're defending in this thread...you don't think it's a big deal?FatUncleJerryBuss said:PM me your name and DOB. Then some cultures need to change. A slap on the ### might instill some fear, a little boy getting his skin torn and nuts ripped apart by a branch from a tree is downright abuse. To keep hitting a child after drawing blood is insane and will scar the child mentally forever. My dad came home drunk one night and beat me when I was 7-8..it was the only time he ever hit me in my life and I still remember it like it was yesterday. I did not respect him for it, in fact I hated him for years because of it. I vowed when I had kids that would NEVER ever happen to them.Sinn Fein said:yes, for some people, they grew up in a culture where this form of punishment is acceptable. The answer is not to throw your hands up in faux outrage, nor is it to turn you back on little Peterson, and others like him. people like Adrian Peterson need to be educated on how to discipline children effectively. What seems normal and appropriate to you, does not register with Peterson. Not because he is a bad guy, he does not know better. he should have to deal with the consequences of this, which should include some basic parenting courses, not time in jail, or missed time from work. (I don't have Peterson on my team)Sammy3469 said:So it's culturally ok to beat your kid. Got it.

I think one or two posters did but the majority are just stating how they got disciplined as kids. Not really saying right or wrong.Drunken Poster said:Just finished that shark pool monstrosity about this. Ya think?I probably should have anticipated that some people here would attack me for my comments. What I should have done was written that there was another tragic aspect of this BEYOND the story itself, so that nobody would think I was trying in any way to minimize the fact that a 4 year old had just been savagely beaten. And I should have made clear, in other posts, how awful that act was, how there can be no excuse for it whatsoever.
Oh wait, I did do those things. And yet I still got ripped, still got called the worst person ever. Oh well.
I am sure most of us give a crap about it no matter where it happens. It's stupid and it doesn't do a damn thing.FatUncleJerryBuss said:Again all this stuff sucks but to peg it as "new" and "something needs to be done" is BS. It has been problem for decades and only superficial steps will be taken. Rice beats his wife and AP beats his kid and lets get on the message board and ##### about it when the same thing is most likely happening a few doors down from where you live and you don't give a crap about it.
Yet another reason to hope you don't reproduce. You've got to hope that Peterson stepped over the line overestimated his strength of whatnot.
In my opinion, physical violence is fine. But anything that leaves a bruise, draws blood is a little much.
I can't tell the guy how to raise his kid. But a line was definitely crossed here. I don't think he should lose his job over it though.
Losing his kid will be enough punishment. Crazy considering how his other son died.
well, I was hoping most people would read what I wrote and note the use of the word "beyond" and understand that I wasn't trying to minimize the abuse, which was just awful and IMO worthy of jail time. But I guess there are always some who only read what they want so as to reaffirm pre-conceived notions.Ya think?I probably should have anticipated that some people here would attack me for my comments. actually just getting to bed. I was up all night helping my brother get into the hospital. You posting at 5:30 AM Pacific Time on a Saturday morning reaffirms my notion that you don't actually live on the West Coast. But I guess there are always some who only read what they want so as to reaffirm pre-conceived notions.
