After Week 8 Who is the Best Team in the NFL? (1 Viewer)

Who is the best team in the NFL after two months?

But until they take down the b2b champs, who remain unbeaten, you can't say you're #1.
While I agree as a rule that you have to be at the champs, the question was who is the best team in the NFL through week 8. So the Chiefs winning back-to-back Super Bowls doesn't matter with respect to the question.
Good point. Let's look at this season only: who is the only team that hasn't lost a single game?

For all those voting KC, if Likely's foot is one inch back are you voting Detroit?

This reminds me of all the Philly and Dallas people last year getting excited because they were beating up on cream puffs. You really do have to factor in schedule and how teams look into the equation.
The mistake you are making is assuming the Ravens win the game if Likely's foot is one inch back. Okay, what happens if he scores and they go for 2 (which it appears they were going to) and don't get it? What then?

But hey, since you want to factor in how teams look this season, have the Chiefs ever looked as bad as the Lions did when losing at home to the Bucs? How about the Ravens losing at home to Garden Minshew? Certainly the Chiefs have looked worse than that, right? And I get it, if we flip it, the Chiefs have never looked as dominant as the Lions have at times this season, but the Chiefs are consistent; they just win.
Fair points.

Detroit is dismantling teams right now and have continued to improve. Unless KC gets their offense going it will be tough sledding keeping up with Detroit.

Played the likes of Ravens, Bengals, Falcons and Niners to boot. Chargers and Saints aren't gimmes either... Their schedule has been more than good enough to warrant "still the best".

And again, i LOATHE everything about them.

Detroit is playing some great football, but

Andy Reid >> Dan Campbell

In a close game, I believe Coach Campbell would come up short

Being the reigning back-to-back Champions matters. It is about instilling a confidence in players and coaches that they have been there before and can scale that mountain again — resiliency and a winning culture.

That resilience is showing this season as the Chiefs have faced a myriad of setbacks and poor execution, yet still found a way to win. They have that dog in them, as they say.

I thought Detroit was playing the best ball in the NFC last year as the season wound down, but Coach Campbell made what I would consider some questionable calls in the NFC Championship Game that doomed them. Perhaps he learned from that.

If you ask me who is playing the best football right now, it is Detroit, imo, but winning culture and resiliency are on the side of the Chiefs. As they say, smooth seas do not make skillful sailors. I want to see Detroit get punched in the mouth to see what kind of fight they’ve got in them. A 52-14 shellacking of the hapless Titans, while entertaining for Detroit fans, doesn’t really tell us much except that the Lions can be dominant against lesser opponents.

Chiefs get the edge based on Spags and that D. Offense is getting by with a depleted WR room.

They so far have held the #1 offense to 20 pts, #2 to 18, and #7 to 17. They also shut down 4 of the league's top 10 rushing leaders, (King, Bijan, Dobbins, Mason).

Andy Ried's been my favorite coach for a long time but it feels like this year he's out doing himself.

Best QB + Best Head Coach (by a mile) is a tough combination to beat.

As someone who absolutely loathes KC and absolutely loves seeing Detroit beat up on everyone...

It's KC.

Simple as that. Call me when the Super Bowl has ended, and MAYBE I'll change my mind.

Right now, I would agree. The Lions need to get some pass rush to beat KC. Mhomes without pressure is a defeat. Need at least one signing and then Hutch to make an miraculous recovery.

I think the Chiefs defense is so good that it’s the Chiefs. I know the "defense wins championships" thing is considered a myth by some, but utterly dominant defenses with a reasonably competent offense is scarier to me than the fun-n'-gun show that Jared Goff is leading right now. I think KC could stifle their attack. They look really tough along their DL with Jones and Karlaftis. Their LB corps is very underrated with Nick Bolton, Drue Tranquill, and Leo Chenal. Their secondary is excellent.

The thing that gives me pause about a matchup with KC is how good Detroit’s running backs are. They’re in another world right now. Gibbs is quite possibly the best back in football. He looks bigger this year. Look at his lower half compared to last year. It’s changed, man. That guy has some butt on him. I’ve been a fan of Monty since that year he was written off and carried all his fantasy GMs to a championship. What year was it? 2020? I forget. He runs hard. And tough. I wonder if teams playing base nickel can really deal with that.

KC/Detroit would be a game where everything popped off. Detroit/Philly is going to be a game where everything pops off. A healthy SF/Detroit matchup will see everything pop off.

Some good stuff to look forward to.

For those who like both KC and DET chances, draftkings has that matchup as the current "favorite" at +1000 (10-1). You don't even have to pick the winner but they both have to make it to the Superbowl.

Peyton Manning put up 55 TD passes for the Broncos in 2013. Then that team went and got smoked by the Legion of Boom in the SB. It wasn't until two years later when they got Wade Phillips and the No-Fly Zone that Broncos won a chip.

Lions are headed for a similar outcome.

KC has me feeling defeated. When it comes to picking anybody other than the Chiefs to win it all, I'm on a "I'll believe it when I see it" basis. I want it to be Detroit so badly, but I won't believe it until KC is eliminated. By hook or by crook, they find ways to win. And yes I'm aware of the irony, which makes it worse.

I voted DET just over KC. If Hutch was still playing; it would be a no-brainer.....although I think by the end of the year; it will be KC.

I voted Detroit but can definitely see the argument for KC, and respect those voting for them. Detroit passes the eye test for me while KC does not. I’m also an idiot because I didn’t think KC passed the eye test last season either and they somehow won the SB.

I hate that my argument is the same as Mike Renner's. He is often wrong. https://x.com/i/status/1850987766919659663

The thought that KC could lose to the Broncos is intriguing because divisional games are always closer than team records would indicate. Cleveland beating Baltimore was not on my bingo card.
Denver beat KC last year with a far less impressive team than they have this year. Any Given Sunday and all that... Last year the Chiefs magic came up short in multiple regular season games. Dropped game winning TD's by MVS in two different games, game winning TD negated by Toney lining up his foot offsides. Amazing to me that the Chiefs are undefeated with such a blown-up WR group and with Mahomes having a turnover in every game.

Not sure but here are the teams that would not surprise me (in random order):

Buffalo
Pittsburgh (no I’m not being a homer - look at their points differential. They’re legit)
Baltimore
Houston
KC
Washington
Philly
Detroit
Minnesota
GB
Atlanta
San Francisco

Another team to keep an eye out for is Denver. I know they've beaten up on the somewhat more lowly teams, but they've got a good chance of going into Baltimore and winning that game next week, and I'll even say this: In 2 Weeks, they go into Kansas City and hand the Chiefs their first loss of the season. Does anyone want to jump on the Broncos' bandwagon?

:sadbanana:

All I know is that before the season started, I put 100 dollars down on the Lions to win the Super Bowl. If that happens, I get a thousand dollars back. If they beat the Chiefs in the Super Bowl, I get ten thousand dollars back. If things keep progressing the way they are, I'll be rolling in the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!

If the Ravens aren’t the best team in the NFL, they’re definitely the best team not leading their division

Powerhouse offense; Lamar is playing better than either of his MVP seasons, Flowers is ascending, and King Henry is still one of one

Nobody has been able to stop them

Ravens offense combine with the Chiefs defense would be scary good. As is, both teams have a weak side of the ball and have to overcome the deficiency to win it all. Defense often carries better in the playoffs so Chiefs are definitely in the driver's seat between the two teams.

By the numbers it's DET tops by a mile.

But KC is undefeated with subpar play from Mahomes (At least fantasy-wise). They're doing the same thing as last year. Looking kind of unimpressive to the eye in the regular season, and then turning it up 5 notches for the playoffs.

Mahomes had the flu last year when DEN beat them and probably shouldn't have even played....and you are right about some of the fluky losses.....one you left out was the season opener to the Lions where Toney let a perfectly thrown pass go right through his hands to a defender who took it for a pick 6....

Chiefs are not quite in sync on offense yet....hard to do when you lose RB1, WR1, and WR2.....get some of these guys back and the addition of Hopkins, they have some time to get it right on that side of the ball....and the Uche trade was sneaky good...

The Uche trade was sneaky good,
Uche has played in 58 games and has 20.5 career sacks. He got half of those when he had 10 sacks in a 5-game stretch playing with Matthew Judon. Put another way, he's been missing in action in 53 other games (10.5 sacks). His PPF ratings haven't been that great. He's currently ranked 140th out of 192 edge defenders. NE had issues with him going off script and not following schemes. Maybe the Chiefs can get him to play more of a team game and find a way to use him better, but there's a reason no one was willing to sign him to more than a one-year, low dollar deal on one of the worst teams in the league.
