This morning, running back Ahman Green and linebacker Brady Poppinga both took part in the pre-practice walk-through and stretching drills that followed. It appears Green and Poppinga have been cleared to practice for the first time since training camp began.

It's significant in so much as just this past Saturday, Green was speculating that he wouldn't be doing anything for yet another week. The fact that he is starting to ease his way in starting today and may even see preseason action is significant, if for no other reason than people would like to see him in action before their fantasy drafts.

Ted Thompson stated yesterday that Green is very close to returning to practice.

Green, Poppinga pass physicals

Packers coach Mike McCarthy confirmed after practice Monday morning that running back Ahman Green and linebacker Brady Poppinga passed their physicals. McCarthy said both players would take part in limited drills during the full-pads practice Monday night.

Green said he will not participate in full-contact activities this week but is hoping to do that by the end of next week. Green, who suffered a ruptured tendon in his right thigh Oct. 23 in a game against Minnesota, said he is hoping he can play in the Packers' third exhibition game, which is scheduled for Aug. 28 at Cincinnati. Poppinga tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee last season as a rookie.

Defensive lineman Cullen Jenkins did not participate in the Monday morning practice due to personal reasons, according to McCarthy. Jenkins isn't expected to practice Monday evening but should return Tuesday.

Safety Nick Collins, who injured his back when he slipped on the sidelines during Saturday night's scrimmage at Lambeau Field, was back on the practice field Monday morning.

Rookie Cory Rodgers, who was drafted as a receiver and kick returner, continued to struggle handling punts during the special teams portion of practice.

Packers | Green removed from PUP list

Published Mon Aug 7 11:17:00 p.m. ET 2006

(KFFL) Tom Silverstein and Bob McGinn, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, reports Green Bay Packers RB Ahman Green (quadriceps) has been removed from the Physically Unable to Perform list. Green took part in individual drills during the morning session Monday, Aug. 7, and took part in seven-on-seven drills during the evening. Green's schedule calls for light work this week, followed by medium work next week and possibly unrestricted work in the week after that. General manager Ted Thompson said, "We kind of take it day-by-day. We wanted to start with this; this is sort of where we wanted to be. We wanted to keep him out last week leading up to the scrimmage."

So now it's only a matter of time until he reinjures himself, seriously jump off this ship and don't even think about sinking on it.
former 2x owner of Ahman Green (04 and 05) -- unless he's sitting there after I have my backup TE, i'm not drafting him.
It won't take a very high pick to secure Green's services this season. As such, he could win a lot of fantasy titles for owners with faith. Having said that, I will have a set point before which I will not draft him.

Green was the 13th rated RB on 04. If he reaches anywhere near that level this year, he's :moneybag:
he was 15th RB in non-PPR leagues, and he was drafted top 7 overall that year in most drafts. he got a TON of those points in two games that season as well. qualifies as a first round bust IMO.last year ... before the injury ... he was horrific.

Can we steer the - Green sucks, Gado/Davenport is King people over to a thread that does nto specifically discuss that Green is practicing again?

Yeah - I know the guy was hurt, but people are WAY down on Ahman Green, it's fantastic.

I mean, he's 29, his 2004 campaign was inconsistent but he put up solid total numbers, and he's in a contract year.

Sure, the injury was relatively major, but people are still taking Deuce McCallister over him, who had a torn ACL AND is playing with some guy named Reggie Bush.

Packers | Green recovering well in camp

Published Tue Aug 8 11:40:00 a.m. ET 2006

(KFFL) Pete Dougherty, of the Green Bay Press-Gazette, reports Green Bay Packers RB Ahman Green (quadriceps) has been recovering quicker than expected and is making cuts in practice effectively. While Green may not play in any of the preseason games, it is still possible for him to start the regular season.

As we are seeing, with modern surgical techniques, a torn ACL is no longer a career-threatning injury. However, a torn quadriceps is not something any RB has ever returned from that I can remember. And Deuce is goign to have a well-defined role in NO - goaline carries. Ahman's role in GB is so up in the air.

This is something I hear a lot. Yet I don't ever see anyone post a RB who has had a torn quadriceps. A torn ACL doesn't have to be "career-threatening" to have an effect the following season.

It is? The Packers plan on Green being their #1 RB when the season starts.

Couple of things:Hard to say that no one has returned from a torn quad since it doesn't appear to be as common as an ACL. Not a lot of precedence, I suppose.

Second, I wasn't aware Deuce has a "well-defined" role as the GL back. If I missed it, my bad, but I haven't heard as much, and it doesn't seem like Deuce is any farther along in his rehab than Ahman.

As noted, from most accounts, Green is still slated to be the guy in GB as long as he stays healthy. A big if, to be sure, but barring a setback, Ahman screams value IMO.

Good news on Green & while I do hope he makes a full recovery, I'm not holding my breath.
I agree for the most part. No one knows how his body will react. He's never been an "injury prone" player, so we will see. But it wouldn't surprise me in the least if he comes back strong. Obviously he'll need a strong OL to come back all the way.

Deuce was certainly never a GL back under Haslett - Brooks practically always threw it in
