Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Thread (5 Viewers)

I think you would think differently if you actually saw a debate of these two.  She is not intellectually equipped to deal with some like Shapiro.
I've heard both of them in lengthy podcast interviews before. I like Shapiro. He's wrong about most things, but he's intelligent, he cares about facts, and he argues in good faith. Ocasio-Cortez is obviously intelligent as well, and she might not be wrong as often as he is. I think she'd do fine.

As someone else mentioned, JohnnyU coming in guns a blazing with very non-partisan tact.  Just hoping for the betterment of his fellow man.
I don't have guns blazing, just to say that Americans aren't buying this BS from Ocasio-Cortez.  Hell, members of her own party aren't buying it either.   The only way the Dems are going to get back any trust is to abandon identity politics and win back middle America.  I don't see that happening.

Is Shapiro losing that many listeners that he has to throw out a dollar amount to debate another person not even a part of our government yet? He is sounding desperate... real desperate to want to “debate” someone just to get listeners and a soundbite. Sad.

I don't think he's losing listeners.

Then say her name and avoid demeaning nicknames based on her appearance. Doing that doesn't lend you any credibility.
The problem with making such a big deal of this incident is that it's not equal to the blowback that you'd give if it were about Trump or those in his circle.  People make comments about other's appearance.  It's unsavory, but let's friggin move on and not set ourselves up to be a bunch of hypocrites.

Good idea. The dems should definitely nominate a centrist one of these years, then whatever "middle America" is will definitely vote democrat.
Regardless, the Dems need to change their platform.  Trump hate isn't going to cut it.  They must find a way to reach middle America or they are toast.  They must do away with identify politics or they are toast.  The Republicans know this.  As far as Ocasio-Cortiez, she she will be a footnote of comedy.

I guess I'm unsure how I'm making a big deal out of that. I jumped into the conversation and have made two replies about it.
How many people on this board have you corrected who made reference to Trump's appearance?  My assumption is none.  It's that assumed contradictory behavior that I'm reacting to.  If you actually do call out anti-Trumpers in similar fashion, then I apologize.

Were I Ocasio-Cortez, I'd refuse. I'd tell Shapiro that if he wants to debate me, he's welcome to run for office like I did and if he's able to win like I did, he'll be afforded the opportunity. I'd also mention that I was looking forward to robust debates with my Republican opponent.
Nothing like deflection.  He would kill this women.

Why in the world would Ocasio-Cortez waste her time with a 2nd string conservative talking head like Shapiro when she could earn 10K in any major city speaking at a fundraiser for Democrats or the Democratic Party?
Because she is reeling with defeats.  None of what she is currently doing is helping her cause.  Of course she won't debate Shapiro because she would look even more dumber than she currently does.  She is the best thing that ever happened to the Republican party.  I really hope she becomes even more popular in social media and the main stream media.

That's not deflection. He hasn't earned the right to debate her.

Just like if I thought the idea of colonizing Mars was a terrible idea and offered to debate Elon Musk about it, he'd laugh at me, and it's not because he'd be worried I'd win.
earned the right?  Hell, he's more popular than she is in many circles and he is a hell of lot more intelligent.

He’s more than welcome to spend that $10,000 to rent a place in her district and run for Congress. Then he could debate her a bunch of times, and with actual stakes.

Probably should ask yourself why he’s doing this instead.
It seems like in every other thread, you argue that we shouldn't care about the topic of the thread because Trump Is Terrible.  So why are you engaging with this one as if it's a serious topic?  Ocasio-Cortez is a fringe candidate from a fringe district, and Ben Shapiro has no agenda besides owning the libs.  Any debate here just involves bouncing stupidity back and forth.

What defeats? Has she run for office again since her upset victory? Why should she give Shapiro any publicity (which he badly needs)?

I don't know why you are so filled with hatred and resentment but I wish you the best and hope you find happiness.

She is a candidate for public office. He's a pundit. I don't think it makes sense for any candidate to spend time arguing with someone who isn't also running for office regardless of their politics. I sure wouldn't. You've got nothing to gain by making someone you're not running against look bad, and something to lose if it doesn't go well for you.

He hasn't earned the right because he's not seeking public office. It doesn't matter how popular he is among conservatives, they're playing a fundamentally different game, and hers is on a different level than his.
Hell, she couldn't debate most of you on this forum.

No hatred at all, only facts.  Are you chastising me because I think this Socialist is bad for this country?  Most Americans feel the way I do.  At least those between the two coasts do.

I'm not really sure what to say next. You're just making a bunch of random assertations you assume to be true that aren't really germane to the posts you're replying to.
Well, let me just say that she has made herself look so stupid even the Democratic party (some of them) are trying to dismiss her.  Even Obama doesn't want any part of this nut job.

Well, that was shallow.  I'm just saying her endorsements were failures in recent elections.
Not an issue with Democrats and certainly no reason to debate a second string conservative talking head like Shapiro and give me the publicity he craves.

He’s saying that you would do poorly in a debate and the more you post, the more obvious that becomes. You’re the pundit on TV who is screaming the same talking points over and over without backing anything up.
Hey dude, I'm just saying that Ocasio-Cortez would be embarrassed by Shapiro.  I think most of you would agree.

I agree it's not an issue.   You know why?  Because Americans aren't buying that BS.  The Dems have to come up with something more than Trump hate.  You know what?, they can't.  All they have is identify politics and that doesn't fly with most Americans.   Talk about doubling down on failure.  Keep it coming is all I can say.

Why would she try to make someone look bad?

What she has to gain, aside from selfish stuff like publicity, is advancing the policy discussion in this country, and exposing the electorate to good ideas.

You should be embarrassed by that comment.
Really?  I remember Jenner as a man winning gold medals.   Why should I think of him in any other way?   If someone decides to address themselves as another gender I'm OK with that as long as there are not laws that says i MUST do do.  We can have mutual respect with regards to gender and I'm fine with that.  But don't try to legislate it.

Not being polite to the pronoun he is right.  Jenner is a man.

You should be embarrassed calling a woman a man because it as bad as calling a Puerto Rican a donkey mouth.

How on earth are you arguing that you have a "mutual respect with regards to gender" when you refuse to respect another person's gender identity? Do you understand the word respect?

No one says you have to address her nor anyone in a specific manner.  But your blatant LACK of respect for another human and their life choices and self identification says far more about you, than it does about the person about whom you speak.  And part of what that says is lack of empathy, lack of caring and complete lack of class.

Speaking of respect, it didn't take long to lose a lot of it for a certain poster here, between name calling and an inability to respect other human beings. If anything, this era certainly has made it more clear who and what people are about, at their root.
