I'm just saying that I see Bruce Jenner as a man, but I'm OK if he sees himself as a women.  Just don't try to legislate it as a fact because it isn't.   I can respect him as an individual as who he says he is.  Just don't make it law that I must accept him being a women now.  That's the way I feel.

Who here is arguing that the law should tell you to have a bit more decency and respect.  Your lack of it here is astounding, and honestly, kinda disgusting. You are literally being hypocritical by saying you can respect "him" as an individual as who "he" says "he" is - it's as if you are going to extra lengths to be DISrespectful, and it speaks volumes.

But you are correct, it is not the role of government to enforce that you show some human freakin' decency.

My feelings toward Jenner are irrelvant.   What matters is what the law is.  I'm OK that he wants to idendify as a women..

I don't know - Im quite skeptical of her views, but she's winning this "debate" so far. :shrug:  

Shapiro, if anything, has simply amplified her voice, provided a greater platform by which for her to be heard, and her tweet above was spot on.  So far, round 1 goes to the socialist.

We agree on the law here.

Perhaps we also agree that you are insistent upon showing a lack of respect, though agree or not, that's pretty apparent.  Why is it important to keep referring to her as him? Aside from the lack of respect, what purpose does it serve for you to insist that she be called by a pronoun with which, she does not identify? Are you not man enough to just accept that she is now a woman?

If it were truly on the up and up, yes it would.

I get the sense that Shapiro does not at all have good intentions here, but rather a nice PR stunt.  So far, it's a PR stunt that is working quite well.  For her.

Well, considering how she's been made to look, I don't see what options she has.  She either has to put up or shut up and I'm not only talking from a Republican standpoint, but her fellow Democrats are abandoned her.

I have no problem referring to Jenner with the pronoun he/she wants.  I just don't want it legislated to me.

Then show it. You've gone to great lengths to say he when its she. Which, as noted, speaks volumes.

I can only say that I'm OK with whatever gender someone says they are.  I just don't want our government to legislate what gender I have to say someone is.  It's really that simple.

How else should she do it? Formal debates with opponents are stuffy and boring. Appearing in a five-minute segment on CNN is really lame for a lot of reasons compared to doing an hour-long interview on a podcast. For one thing, Shapiro’s audience is probably bigger than CNN’s (though I’m not going to search for numbers — but I think a lot of people severely underestimate how popular the top podcasts are compared to most cable TV shows). But more importantly, the longer format makes for a much better, much deeper, much more interesting conversation than a cable-TV soundbite does.

She’s already appeared on the Pod Save the World podcast and I think it was a very good conversation. She should do more of that ... but Pod Save the World is pretty much preaching to the choir for her. There’s also a place for discussing things with people who don’t agree with her. Not with idiots like Hannity, but with people willing to engage substantively in a civil manner. Ben Shapiro would be at the top of my list for that if I were a left-leaning political candidate.

And all I am saying is your repeated insistence on purposefully calling her a he has nothing to do with a government mandate, and everything to do with a demonstration of disrespect and lack of caring, humanity and simple decency.

So we agree - government should not impede upon your right to purposefully malign someone and call them by a pronoun that demonstrates lack of empathy and said decency.  But it doesn't make you any more empathetic nor decent.  Your own words and behaviors are clear on that front, and we don't need the gov't to legislate it. We are all free to speak in a classless, unaccepting and disrespectful manners - who here has suggested it's the gov'ts role to stop your from doing that (one would have hoped a better and more accepting and caring upbringing or maturation into that, would have been the case, but alas, you insist on calling her he, while using a red herring that the gov't shouldn't stop you - we agree on that)

I think a discussion with Shapiro could be worthwhile, but it’s definitely not the case that she either has to do that or shut up.

I think it would be interesting, informative and perhaps more a learning opportunity for Shapiro than it would be for her... if anything, I think she would do more than hold her own, but I don't have much to base that upon, either way. I know I'd learn more from her perspective than what Shapiro is shilling, assuming he is not going to bring anything new to the table. 

What I know, is our current system is a ####### disaster, and the current administration the epitome of the worst of our current policies in terms of both motivations and outcomes (long term, and that includes economic - and I lean on people who know the latter far better than do I, to make those judgements.  Like the former owner of the world's largest consultancy for Real Estate Economic and Feasibility Analysis... who is clear in his beliefs that what short term gains we might have seen from current policy, they are if anything overheating aspects of an already humming economy, and will have significant negative long term repercussions). 

So, if you want to compare more socialist nations to our own, it seems the only place we currently stack up well is further benefiting the 1%, and especially the 0.1% - and you'd have to be an idiot at this point to think that's gonna "trickle down" - been there, failed that.

Sorry if I didn't refer to Jenner that is acceptable to you guys.  I honestly want to be politically correct on this, but I will not support an agenda that tries to make me refer to anyone other than what their true gender is.  I will respectfully refer to them personally as they wish however.  I'm sorry if that offends you, but I think you will find that most Americans feel the same as I do.

OK, let me phrase it this way.  The left wants to control how we refer to trans gender humans.  I have no problem referring to a man as a women on a personal level, but don't try to make it law.  This is happening in Canada.  I don't want it to happen in the US.

As has already been stated several times in this very thread (even on this page), there is not a single person in present company that is arguing for that, and that has nothing to do with your apparent lack of ability to show the very least amount of respect for another human being.

There's no law that says you can't be an #######, but most people would encourage you not to be an ####### anyways.

No one encourages me to do anything.  I look at our country and I want what is best for our country.   I have an opinion of what that is as most of you do.
