The leaked specs for the new Nexus 6p are making my pants tight...

I am in the market for a new phone right now; the Moto x Pure vs Nexus 5x vs Nexus 6p battle seems to be the one I am going to wage. Price will play a big factor, so I am hoping the Nexus 5x specs are a bit better than what has been leaked this far.
I'll probably go with the 5X based solely on size, but the specs for it are a tad underwhelming.

Really hoped/expected for 3GB ram on it... But regardless, Ill probably pull the trigger on it... Tho the 6P looks deliciously good.

Price will be vital, as I THINK the pricepoints will be fairly low based on specs
Pricing leaked?

[Exclusive] Nexus 6P Will Be Available For Pre-Order On September 29th Starting $499.99 In The U.S.[Exclusive] Nexus 5X Will Start At $379.99, Available For Pre-Order On September 29th In The U.S.
aaaaaand they just priced me out of the 5X. Dammit....

the 6P seems like the much, much better deal. Ugh... I dont want a 6" phone
Neither device will have Wireless charging either. Just leaked.
No OIS in either of them as well? :(
Ya....... I may just hit a rock bottom price Nexus 6... The original one

eta:

Update: we've confirmed that the lack of image stabilization is, in fact, due to the new 1.55µm pixels in the image sensor. Presumably that means that the Nexus 5X will include an extra-dense camera sensor as well.

Update....problem is gone. After I tried everything I posted. 3 days later it was back to normal.

I did have some ####ty bloat ware cloud sync service running that I disabled. It be came active after my last update.

I had a similar problem that seemed to be happening randomly some nights. Finally determined it was correlated to my Titanium full system backup schedule. Turns out nights when the full backup ran copying of some wifi components disrupted the active wifi connection. I just had to modify the Titanium backup to exclude them and then it stayed connected all night.

Full details leaked on the 6P and 5X. I'm growing increasingly disappointed with the 5X.

Versus my N5:

  • Same RAM (2GB) (-)
  • Wireless charging gone (-)
  • OIS gone (-)
  • Bigger (-)
  • Same resolution (lower density) (-)
  • Worse screen/bezel ratio (-)
  • Better CPU (+)
  • Fingerprint sensor (+)
  • Bigger battery (+)
  • USB3 (+)
  • Higher-megapixel camera (not necessarily better, given lack of OIS)
I went from 100% certain I was going to buy the 5X to "meh". I might still order it, but I'm decidedly underwhelmed.

Will be all over the 6P. Hopefully it will work with Project FI. Really want to try that out as well.

I was hoping that the N5X would be a close cousin to the LG G4 (much like the N5 was a close cousin to the G2). Check out this size comparison of the N5X, N5, and G4. The G4 is roughly the same physical size as the N5X, but with a bigger screen, higher resolution, better camera, laser focus, etc, etc.

Unfortunately the G4 comes with all of LG's Android customizations.

And I love stock Android more than I love fancy hardware.

I think.

Ugh.

Yup... I'm basically 100% out on the n5X unless my current phone goes kaput. Such a major disappointment.

But there is zero use in paying nearly 500$ for a fingerprint scanner.

Maybe down the road Ill grab a 6P or even a seriously discounted original 6... but what a bummer on the 5X. crap

What exactly do these really high level phones do that medium level phones don't? What are you guys doing with your phones?

I have a s3 mini.. spec wise it's garbage... but I've yet to see anything that I really couldn't do with my phone that I need to do.

Other than screen size and camera quality, I guess I just don't get it.

You ask this same question every year. Your always a version or two behind, but got a great deal on the phone. Then come here asking what's so much better about all the new phones. :lmao:

Last year, right before the Nexus 6 came out, I bought a Nexus 5.

This year, right before the new Nexusi came out, I bought a Nexus 6.

I don't think there are huge leaps year to year, and I'm happy to stay a year behind. Especially when I can sell my last phone for $50-100 less than what I paid for the new phone.

phones, like computers have mostly reached their peaks.

aside from a few bells and whistles that are new technology... really isnt much difference in a 2yr old phone to the new ones.

Yup, we're pretty much at the point now with phone technology that everything is just going to be a minor upgrade from here on out. Every new version of a phone will have a better camera and slightly better battery life. A couple new features here and there, but nothing game changing. Outside of really just improving battery life, there isn't much a new phone could offer that I'd feel like I'd have to have it.

Just bought a battery replacement for my Nexus 5 on ebay. $15 w the tools.

Tutorial looks easy enough to replace it. Making it official, that I won't be upgrading.

:goodposting:

love DIY stuff like this.

If my phone broke today, I'd buy an s4 mini despite the fact the s6 is out and they are probably working on an s7.

My tablet still runs android 4.2. It's not great and the tablet is getting a bit laggy, but I'm not in a rush to go out and spend $300-500 just for a little lagginess... everything still works.. and would probably work better if I took the several hours to do a factory reset.

As if there was any doubt, both the LG Nexus 5X and the Huawei Nexus 6P, introduced today at Google's yearly Nexus event, will be compatible with Project Fi. That makes them just the second and third phones (after the Nexus 6 from last year) to be available on Google's combination Wi-Fi/LTE mobile virtual network, which uses both the T-Mobile and Sprint networks as a backbone. Fi switches rapidly between T-Mobile, Sprint, and Wi-Fi (VOIP) for data and calls, and that little extra functionality means that conventional smartphones need not apply.

Because I don't understand $500 phones.

What are people getting? why are they spending all that money?

If you get a phablet because you play games and watch videos and don't have a tablet. maybe i could get that. But otherwise I don't understand the need for the latest tech just to send a text message, watch a video, or make a phone call.

Marketing departments are really good, and people have come to self-identify with their phones and people are stupid.

15 Handicap golfers will go out and buy the latest $400 driver every year too. Same kind of thing.

I buy a new car every 18 months too.
the sales tax department must love you.

lotta dmv trips also.

Dang.

The car I bought new in 2004 still works and gets me to the same place I keep going to every day. I'm sure a newer car probably has more tech and stuff, but at the end of the day it's a device to travel from one place to another. I'm way to lazy and cheap to get another one until this one dies. I'm appalled by what cars are going for these days.

I was being sarcastic. One of our cars has 190k miles on it.

I also own a ####ty droid. Although I'd be willing to spring for a Nexus if this Fi thing turns out to be decent.

Hmmm I didn't know anything about Fi until I saw this post....I looked into it and got an invite, guess I'm getting a 6P and going to give this a shot. $20/month murders what I'm currently paying verizon.

It sounds great from a price standpoint, but I've heard that the call quality can still be somewhat dodgy.

Working good for me - except for when I let me daughter play with it and she downloads nearly a gig of games.

My last two bills have been $32 and $30.

I don't get why people have to upgrade from a iPhone 6 to a 6S (or whatever). Had a Note 2 (bought used) for several years and the only negative was battery life. I switched to Google Fi and had to buy a $500 phone (Nexus 6, now $300, yay). I plan to keep this for for a least 3 years so that about $15 a month for the phone and about $30 for the service, total $45 a month. Not everybody would benefit like I did since I get bad service at home.

What device are you using...I guess it has to be the Nexus 6, right? Any problems with the device?Any problems with the service at all?

What color are your socks? Do they match your drawers?

Picked up a64GB Fire phone for $150 + Prime. Once I have a decent launcher on there (Vire launcher works well with the Fire system) and Google Play it's a great phone. Got one for the wife for an effective $10 after Prime. Awesome deal.

Can someone recommend a decent case for Galaxy S6? Back when my wife got the S3 the board turned us on to the ACase which was a two layer one that was great and cheap. Anything similar this time?

How hard was it to download the apk for the Play Store and get it to run? Last amazon device I had was the original tablet and you could download stuff but it wouldn't let you choose them to use (a la Swype keyboard). Was there any root needed to get full functionality?
OK. First off note that Amazon is ####### with 3rd party sellers and no longer allowing the year of Prime to be registered. So if you're buying on that premise don't. At least right now.

I had no issues getting this to work. Fire phone with 4.6.3 (do NOT put in 4.6.4). Follow the instructions in the top post here. Horrible formatting, but gives good instruction on upgrades and how not to have it autoupdate to 4.6.4, which is a bad thing.

I then used this page to get the apk files for Google Play. Worked fine. I had to update one to get Youtube to work, but other than that no problems really. I have loaded in a crapload of stuff. Only apps it doesn't want to install are Regions Bank and Redbox. I think if i got the apks directly and installed them it would work, but I haven't really dug that far to do that.

Some people are rooting and going straight to CM11. I actually kind of like having audible and kindle built in, though the interface sucks balls. I put in the Vire launcher and it works great. Some launchers don't act nice and widgets don't work. Vire works well here.

The biggest benefits to new phones are battery life, increased storage and increased RAM. Those are the big difference makers IMO. But in general, new phones don't offer a whole lot more than that IMO.

Well, better security. On the Android system, security flaws don't get fixed very quickly on older or lower end phones, if they get fixed at all.

These are pretty huge benefits. IMO battery life is extremely important. I have been using the Droid Maxx for almost three years now and the battery is finally starting to show its age. I use to be able to go a day, day and a half with out charging. That is a huge bonus. The 6Ps large battery is one of the reasons I am finally jumping to a new phone.

Is Fi gonna be available on a phone that isn't 3 feet wide?
Hmmm I didn't know anything about Fi until I saw this post....I looked into it and got an invite, guess I'm getting a 6P and going to give this a shot. $20/month murders what I'm currently paying verizon.
After getting all excited I don't think I'm going to do this.....I use about 10GB/month on my verizon unlimited plan. I could curb that a bit but even if I knock it down to 5GB I'm not saving anything moving to Fi. I didn't realize I was using that much data.

Do you not have home internet/wifi?

I am activity trying to abuse my data plan this month and am at ~7.2gb with ~7 days left. I mean it, I am pushing it (wifi off everywhere besides home) downloading ROMs, music, all software updates, way too much periscope (while pooping :bag: ) and speedtests all over the place. Since I am on T-Mo though they have only charged me for about ~6gb right now thanks to music freedom.

At this point the only way I could see my self hitting 10gb would be to continue to push it as is, and to start streaming movies. Anyway, just thought I'd share, after this billing period I am going back to using wifi as per usual and expect to be back in the 3-4gb per month range.

Don't think Ive ever hit 1GB of mobile data usage. ever.

Usually use about 2-3GB on wifi at home, so Id say a typical month for me is about 4GB total...

I do

I tether at work, M-F 8-5

Our work network in addition to being heavily monitored is really slow.

I'll show you guys how to spend some data!

-liveleak & worldstar daily

-Google play music, Tunein, IHeart
