The wife needs a new phone and was generally happy with her S3 for many years. We use AT&T. What is my best bet to buy an S5? AT&T direct? Amazon? Ebay or Craigslist? If I go one of those less traditional routes, what do I need to look out for?

Haven't looked in a bit but you could get a refurbed one on Groupon for around $280.
I noticed in a Q&A for one of the Groupon ones people wouldn't confirm if these were USA or international unlocked. If international will it not work on US LTE signals?

It won't work on verizon and the like. Att is ok.

A lot of updates on S6 lately. Android 5.1.1 a little while back, 2 Samsung firmware upgrades, and now a Samsung UI upgrade. They made the icons all rounded squares with shadows

Just as a quick heads-up, one of the speculated reasons for the price drop is that a new Nexus 6 and Nexus 5 are due for release late this month. I'm very excited for a new N5, myself.

That is exactly the reason for the price drop. Both Amazon and Best Buy are trying to clear their inventory. However, I went ahead and bought the Motorola Nexus 6 for a couple of reasons.

I currently have an LG Nexus 5 which has been okay. My gripes with it are battery life and the radio. The battery for me is terrible. Marshmallow may fix the battery drain. The LG radio is terrible. I am constantly dropping from LTE to 3G in areas that are blanketed with LTE coverage.

The new Nexus 5s coming out are built by LG and Huawei. I don't think I will buy another LG after the poor radio in my Nexus 5 and I do not trust Huawei at all.

As for the Motorola Nexus 6, I received it yesterday thanks to the Amazon Prime Sunday delivery. I went ahead and unlocked the bootloader before I set it up with my accounts. The Lollipop Tap & Go migration was nice. It imported my accounts and apps from my Nexus 5, but none of the data. I then rooted the Nexus 6 to restore all of the data from my Nexus 5 by means of a Titanium Backup restore.

So far really enjoying the Nexus 6. No work today so will see tomorrow if the Motorola radio performs better than the LG radio during my commute.

Who has the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge + and what is the verdict? It is a beautiful phone and I would love to give it a shot as my first android device.

I have been having GPS problems on the Note 4 ever since the last Android update. Pretty annoying. It keeps flashing, and won't get a good lock at times. Drains the battery.

I don't have the Edge, but love my S6.

Upgraded from the S4 and have been extremely pleased with the improvements.

Keys to battery life:

eliminate widgets

turn off location settings

reduce the number of notifications you get from apps and how often they refresh

uninstall facebook and messenger and use the mobile site... in fact do that with as many apps as is reasonable... twitter also for instance

Turn off "ok google" and the google now cards.

keep brightness as low as possible

next time get a phone with a removable battery for hot swaps

Ok nerds. I need help.

Every night I go to sleep phone, wifi works just fine.

I get up and no connection. Other devices are fine. I reboot phone and it works fine.

I've cleared my cache.

Lollipop 5.0

Have you tried rebooting your router? Weird that it's only happening late at night, though. I'd think if it were miscommunication with the router, it would happen more often at random times. Still worth a shot.

Maybe an older app not playing nice with lollipop and kicking in overnight for some reason?

Yeah I tried everything. My other devices don't have this problem. I can do airplane mode off and on now to resolve it.

This just started like a week ago

Yeah, that's weird. The reason I suggested rebooting the router was because I had an issue a few weeks after first getting my Note 3 where it would sporadically drop wifi connection or have a really slow connection. I didn't think it had anything to do with the router because none of my other devices were having an issue. Tried unplugging and rebooting the modem and router thinking what the heck and the issue disappeared.

Does it say you have your usual wifi connection, but you don't have Internet?

Yes.Well I went into my router. Noticed there was a recent firmware updare.

Installed it. Rebooted everything. Assigned my phone a static ip.

We shall see.

Thanks

Isn't Samsung doing away with the removable batteries? Not many options left.

Yes. S5 class was the last with a removable battery. I have an s4 mini currently and didn't think the s5 mini was worth the upgrade at the time of release. Now that the s6's have come out, I'm kinda screwed. I'm going to hold out as long as I can with the s4 mini.

Today's "Random Shot's" email keeps crashing my gmail. If he is going to put that much media & crap in there, then a link to the blog/page would be better.

Update....problem is gone. After I tried everything I posted. 3 days later it was back to normal.

I did have some ####ty bloat ware cloud sync service running that I disabled. It be came active after my last update.

The leaked specs for the new Nexus 6p are making my pants tight...

I am in the market for a new phone right now; the Moto x Pure vs Nexus 5x vs Nexus 6p battle seems to be the one I am going to wage. Price will play a big factor, so I am hoping the Nexus 5x specs are a bit better than what has been leaked this far.

I'll probably go with the 5X based solely on size, but the specs for it are a tad underwhelming.

Really hoped/expected for 3GB ram on it... But regardless, Ill probably pull the trigger on it... Tho the 6P looks deliciously good.

Price will be vital, as I THINK the pricepoints will be fairly low based on specs

I just shared that info with a GB, we were both in agreement that, while nice to have, giving up wireless charging for quick charging is a more than fair trade.

I am seriously in love with quick charging.

Wait, what?! I use wireless charging all the time on my N5 and N7.

Agh. I was thinking the N5X would be everything my N5 was, but better. Now not so much.
