I was just going to ask if anyone has any sports apps that are alternatives to theScore. I used to like it, but now it takes forever to load and I have to hunt around to get the score of interest. Really wish there was a lighter faster version of this app.
really?

try uninstalling or reinstalling

or send a bug report. I dont have these issues

I use ESPN Scorecenter. Which is sometimes awesome, and sometimes super slow.

What do you mean 'score of interest'? You can set teams as favourites and they'll appear under 'MyScore'.

For sports: theScore. Far and away the best sports app.
agree - got it. minimal ads, minimal battery/resource use, great customization ability
what with you and the obsession over resource use? you using your phone to power a backup generator or something?

Nexus 9 taking a pretty good beating in early reviews. Looks like a bust. Probably would have been fine as a $200-$250 device.
Is this thing really priced $100 more than the Galaxy Tab? I assume the Tab is the right way to go for Andriod tablets. Any other suggestions? Looking to get one as a gift...

I just tried going into the app again and of course locked on the splash screen for 45 seconds. To clarify the above, if my team is the Chicago Bears, the app is quick to show the Bears score, but in the most recent update, it won't let me pull up the menu to choose NFL, NBA, etc.

When it's worked, the app works really good, but I've had frequent crashes and hang-ups with this app on both Android and iOS. Sorry Score lovers

He probably buys cars and then leaves them at the dealship lot so they depreciate slower.

You have an Android phone, why not experience it, you know?

If I remember correctly he's using a 4+ year old smart phone.

Ya, just to test I opened the score app 3 times for ya, dentist

All under a second to open. Basically instantaneous

IIRC the Tab S is the current top of the line android tablet on the market.

What are some of your favorite apps that fall outside of some of the standard apps that almost every phone includes... something beyond e-mail/social media/podcast/sports scores/weather/calendar/browser

For instance anyone using any fitness apps they really like? Games? customization? time wasters? standard usefulness/awesomeness?

for me:

Games - just 2 - chess time and quizzup

fitness - company called rittr labs makes a situp, pushup and squat app and I like those, also have a running app called rundouble with a Couch to 5K plan that i haven't started yet.

zedge - ringtones/notification tones/wallpapers

money - mint for keeping track of accounts
2 Player Reactor - just plain fun game when I'm with one of my kids and want to kill some time (waiting for the wife to come out of a store or something). Both players play on same phone, testing reaction times in different mini-games.

Wolfram Alpha - mostly for math/science stuff, but also tons of general knowledge info. Awesome things you can do. You can just use the website, but if you use it enough, $2.99 is worth it for the optimized setup on the phone.

Wabbitemu - obviously not for most people, but nice emulator of ti-84 or related ti graphing calculator :nerd:

US Newspapers - I've had this one forever. There may be better newspaper apps out there now, but this one has always been nice and clean and simple.

(ETA play links)

Every Trail

it is a staged update, you will get it soon. I got it on both of my devices this afternoon. It is pretty much just a material design update, you are not missing out on much at this point.

Not entirely true:

More Uber integration (est pickup times, etc)

Open table integration (can make restaurant reservations from their Maps info card)

New Google Maps

Bold colors and textures are in—and Google Maps is on trend, with a slick new style to make traveling with Maps even easier. Over the next few days, when you open up Google Maps on your Android or iPhone, you’ll be greeted by bright colors and a fresh new design. This new look is all about creating surfaces and shadows that echo the real world; with Google Maps’ new material feel, layers and buttons come to life so you know just where to touch to get directions, recommendations and imagery.

Getting around with Google Maps is even easier with the new design
By tapping on a place’s info sheet at the bottom of your screen, you’ll send an info layer gliding up to the top, showing you photos, reviews, and more. And for the adventurous souls looking for a new place to dine or visit, you’ll see more to Explore at the bottom of your map

Fluid transitions guide you through Google Maps

There’s more to this app than good looks—we also make it easier for you to get on with your day. Need to make a last-minute dinner reservation? You can now reserve a table right from the Google Maps app for restaurants found on OpenTable (U.S. only).

Make a restaurant reservation from Google Maps

On a cool winter day, a chilly walk or train ride may not always be the most appealing choice. Travelersdeciding whether they should take an Uber or brave the frosty winds can now see estimates for Uber’s pickup time and price for their route in walking and transit directions in Google Maps. This option will appear if you have the Uber app installed, where available.

Wait time and price estimates for Google Maps’ Uber card

For Google Maps, giving you useful options and information is always in vogue. So as you’re traveling this holiday season, don’t forget to open up your Maps app for all the navigation help we have to offer—now with a fun new look.

So serious. How is it in one play store but not others.

is it by region?
Google does everything in staggered rollouts.

Perhaps to minimize the risk of server crashes and largescale bug problems
I understand the concept but does the back and architecture just mean there's multiple Google Play stores
no, one play store.

I assume it just goes by IMEI number or something... there's gotta be logic to it... heck, you may just wait an hour or so to get it

NEW GMAIL JUST UPDATED ON PLAY STORE

What a happy day!!!!!

This material design movement is so sweet. And gmail is just... Damn

I've been downloading the apk's of all the new apps I can find. The new Gmail, Calendar and Maps look really slick. The material design looks great.

Just got the updated Gmail. Still no way to turn off conversation view.
You may have mentioned it but why do you not like conversation view?
My main issue is if I get a couple replies I somehow miss a some because they get put in the stack
they don't get stacked until they are read thiugh, right?
no if I send out a group email. I've had it where all the replies are in the conversation view and I missed a couple that ended up in there and I missed it. Doesn't happen often

This is my only complaint with conversation view

Inbox is too confusing. Who wants to spend time grouping emails and having to open different groups of emails. Still prefer the clean email app that comes with my phone.
