think about what you are saying: your device's SMS app is the key here. Works fine with iPhone's stock app and the one guy in the world with a Windows phone. Get the right app on her phone - not the stock one, because every Android phone is pretty customized to the manufacturer - and you might be fine. but seriously, what's the big problem with using something like Facebook messenger or Skype? it's platform neutral and likely something you both have on your phones. you're overthinking it by a country mile, imo.

So I should switch communications applications because 1 of the 100 people I text regularly have an oddly set up phone? I'm fairly certain this has to be as simple as a setting on a phone because she's not the only person I talk with who's on android.

At least I'm not getting told to flash the system and install some dope ROMZZ I guess.

Cant you route SMS through Hangouts? There should be several different apps capable of handling your SMS besides whatever the stock one is.

I don't think of Skype or FB messenger as specialty apps because they're pretty much on everybody's phone. It's a simple solution to a specific problem you have. It's not a huge hairy deal to ask an older parent to use a tool they're already likely using. It's certainly easier than asking them to tweak their sms settings. Your unwillingness to accept any solution except the one that is easiest or most aligned to the Apple is frankly pretty ####### annoying.

download MESSENGER (it's the Google sms app)

looks and feels exactly like the stock one on her phone, so she wont be confused

under settings, u can change long msgs to me an mms (think it's default tho)

I'm a big fan of imessaging / texting from my Macbook... what's the best way to do that on a Nexus? Im pretty sure you can use pushbullet (paid?) and hangouts, but any other ways that are better?

This sounds like the setting that might be off. I'll give her a call tomorrow and try to talk her through it. Any idea where in the menu system this could be? I'm assuming it's different under Samsung's shell than pure android?

Thanks

Gmail not syncing consistently on my new Nexus 6p. Sometimes it will get a new email right away. Other times it won't show up for 10-12 hours unless you manually go in and sync.

Looking around online, it looked initially like it was a 6p problem, but there have been some other reports of the same issue on other phones, so I'm not sure. Anyone else having this issue?
The issue has been acknowledged by Google and is being fixed as of yesterday, I believe
This issue is driving me insane(and costing me money) please hurry google

Wonder why this isn't an extremely widepsread issue.

affecting some, not all. I'm on a Nexus 6P, and not affected. get my emails w the Gmal app instantaneously.

admittedly, in the past sometimes it took a few minutes once and a while, but usually corrected itself, quickly.

I'm on a nexus 6, no idea, it seems to come and go, sometimes I get the email and sometimes nothing shows up and I go on my tablet and I've got 10 new emails

i know it's a pain in the ###, but everytime you check your phone for email, just go into the gmail app and swipe down

it "refreshes" your feed, and the email will show up

Yup that's what I do, I've had a few occasions where that doesn't work and have to power down the phone and restart.

on occasion w the "swipe down" you gotta wait 5-10seconds. Dont know why. But eventually they show up... at least in my experience.

anyways, they are aware of the issue and should release a fix soon, I hope

- Download "Textra" to her phone.

- Place the "Texrta" icon on the homepage in place of the standard messaging icon.

- Go through the SMS and MMS settings.

In messages, is it possible to send a text toultiple people without it becoming a group text? For example, I have a baby picture I want to send to my long-divorced parents but don't necessarily want them all to be on the same convo.

I tried unchecking the "Group conversation" box, but the recipients can still see the full list of recipients. Am I stuck just sending multiple texts?

I believe with Textra you can set group texts to use SMS rather than MMS. When you do that it just sends a text to each person you've addressed it to, rather than sending it as a group text. In the settings it says something like "replies come to you" or "replies come to everyone". Of course that's a setting that applies to all your group chats, not just one in particular, so I don't know how helpful that is.

I've had good luck and really like Yaata. Textra was good too, but at the time they didn't have "pin" option for my most used contacts. Must have imo

Dumb question, I know, but do my recipients need to have the app, too?

Did someone in here replace their N5 battery? If so, what battery/tool/instructions did you use?
I did. I found a video for it on YouTube.
Did it make much of a difference? I've seen a lot of different feedback online about how helpful these OEM batteries really are.
Nope. None at all. I thought my original battery must've just run out of juice and wouldn't recharge to the level it used to when it was new or something. Didn't last nearly as long as it used to, so something else must've been sucking up the battery (new OS?) faster than it used to, because nothing really changed on my end in terms of usage, etc. So I bought a brand-new one and there was no difference whatsoever.

if u guys are getting mad battery drains on your nexus, try this

wifi setting - scanning off, and change it to 2.4ghz only

reboot device.

should notice a world of difference

2.4ghz wifi? gross.

you want a real battery improvement, uninstall facebook and just use the mobile site.. and for god sake take a lot of the widgets off your phone and use less "notifications".

More mobile sites, less "apps"

Great news for Android users: Samsung bringing back the SD slot for their upcoming S7 phones.

128GB microSD cards are less than $50 so there's no need to buy more than a 32GB phone.
They don't do a removable battery I'll just get another S5.
What choices other than the s5 are left on the removable battery front?

I don't understand why people hate removable battery so much... it's FANTASTIC
No idea, but if they stop making the S5 I might try to go and buy 3 on ebay. Might be the last phone I ever use.

i wouldn't go that far... samsung doesn't support these phones very long... so you'll be stuck on android 5 (or maybe 6) for like 8 years.... I'm guessing that won't be a good play.

That's the one strong argument for getting a nexus... google supports their stuff for a long time

Note 4 has removable battery. Tried hard to get one two weeks ago and couldn't wothout paying close to $700

Grrr, didn't notice that. Damn people and their need for an aesthetic phone. More than half of smartphone users put theirs in a case anyway.
Always thought it was funny that people pay $800 for a "premium design" and slap an $8 piece of plastic on it

In the past month or so my Nexus5's camera, (specifically the focus finder) has been malfunctioning. The camera shakes and makes a crackling/buzzing sound as the focus finder tries to sharpen the image.

Google search hasn't come up with any good solutions as it appears to be a hardware issue. One temporary fix is to squeeze (with my fingers) the camera lens so that whatever loose piece inside stops rattling. I might snap 5 pictures before it starts shaking again.

I'm way past the 1 year warranty for a free repair. Has anyone else experienced this and/or have any ideas?

I hope every news outlet / website / blog having to have their own app is a fad that ends soon. If I downloaded an app for everywhere I visited on a daily basis I would have like 5 local news apps, tmz, bleacher report, espn, yahoo, associated press, etc.

Same result with different camera apps?

Yep, just installed a different app and same issue.

Try asking at the Android Central forums, they're usually pretty helpful on there

Anyone have a good email app that can include both Yahoo and MS Exchange (work email)?  I've tried Microsoft Exchange, Gmail, Nine and Type Mail.  Type was working best, but now that app stinks for my work email (takes forever to sync)

I switched back to Apple....biggest mistake I've made in some time.   Missing my note 4.  iOS is dreadful compared to android.

What is the best smart watch to combine activity and sleep tracking like a fitbit and notificstions like emails and texts and calls? I bought a pebble time but it didn't have heart rate monitoring and the screen was extremely dark. I will pair it with my LG V10. I like a traditional watch look with steel and leather, not rubber and plastic. I have looked at the LG Urbane, Moto 360, and Huawei. All seem nice. Anyone have good our bad o.k. them? What others are out there?
