All Android/Google All the Time (1 Viewer)

Went into store. Reactivated my old phone.

Guy said if you did not get direct message from Samsung by now you should be safe. Whether that is true or not I have no idea. They are still awaiting final word on when you can exchange

Does it use the Yahoo Weather api as the source?  all sorts of weather widgets have been having issues with that lately.   Take a peek at Weather Timeline when you get a chance, it lets you pick your source and may do the trick for you
I ended up just uninstalling it and I installed 1weather..... I like it better so far.

1weather widget allows you to change the transparency of the rectangular block around it.  Nice feature that I didn't discover for a year or so.

Calling all Androidiacs. I have an Samsung GS4 (yes, I KNOW it's old, but so am I and I don't see upgrading me anytime soon). The other day I was kinda bored and skimming though my phone settings. I came across the permissions page and saw a bunch of stuff that didn't look like they belonged and others I didn't understand in geek language. So I started deleting them and then ended up just deleting all of them. What could go wrong, right?

Now I can't do anything Google related. App store, Google Account settings, Gmail, etc. I keep getting an error message that says "Check your connection and try again" even tho I'm connected to Wifi or Cell data.

Anyone know how I can restore the Google permissions or whatever I need to do?

tia

As some Nexus 6 owners can attest to, the phone is just slowly crapping out. Apps are taking longer and longer to open, multiple taps to get things to register on the screen, lag and lag and lag and lag some more. I've tried doing a factory reset every other week with no appreciable difference other than the first day or two. Clearing the cache memory is just a bandaid for a short period of time. I may try installing a custom Rom since this won't be my daily driver anymore and the phone is already rooted.
Same bull#### here with my Nexus 6.

Missed another great video of my kid today when my camera app took like 45 seconds to start and then said "can't connect to camera" when I tried to swipe over to video.

Never buying a Google or Motorola phone again.  This thing is utter trash.  If I didn't hate the iPhone ecosystem so much (namely iTunes) I would consider dumping Android entirely over this debacle.

reboot to factory settings. download all the latest apps for the ones you were using.

couple phone deals out there that seem pretty good...

First up: Qualitycellz (though not so much Qualityspelling) via Ebay has the unlocked Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus (32GB) for $339.99 shipped when you apply coupon code CELLPHONES0916 at checkout and use PayPal as your payment method. It's new, not refurbished, and this model retailed for around $770(!) when it debuted a little over a year ago.

Daily Steals has the Samsung Galaxy S6 (64GB) and a free case for $389.99 shipped when you apply promo codecheapskate10. That's definitely one of the lowest prices I've seen on that configuration. Oh, and this, too, is new, not refurbished. It's available in your choice of black or white.

Whoa, $650 for the base 32GB model Pixel (FTR, only a rumor right now)? I was looking to get on Fi in the next month or so, but might just get a 6P for the foreseeable future.
I can't imagine that is the price.  Maybe for the Pixel XL.

The XL is supposed to be all set to go with their new virtual reality thingy they're also announcing.  The standard Pixel won't be.  I think there will be a decent price gap between the two because of this.

Following these steps helped improve my Nexus 6's performance.

Someone is strongly suggesting I look at Samsung.  Been an iPhone user for years. She gave me her Note 4 for a test drive and it's fine, but not really giving me  the thrill a new toy should.  Just keeping you updated since I know you were wondering.

People who have been on iPhone for a long time have a hard time getting used to the Android setup. iPhone is simple and easy to use, Android as a setup is not nearly as refined. I personally love the Android and I would never consider an iPhone because of all of the customization I can do on it and can't on the iPhone even without rooting it, but I've had many friends who took a dive into the Android world after being an iPhone owner for years, and eventually just went back to the iPhone.

If Android does work for you, Samsung makes the best line of phones, imo. Best camera and great looking phones. Note 4 though is outdated with old version of android, Note 7 is the "hot" item now.

Take a look at the S7 Edge and the Note 7.  Here's a side by side comparison (virtually the same).

The Pixel phones will be announce Oct. 4 and should have an updated processor (Snapdragon 821 vs the 820 in the Edge/Note).

Doing this will doink out all my everything not backed up correct? I know pics and all are backed up to my google cloud, how about my text messages?
Get an app called SMS backup,  save them somewhere not on the phone,   do the phone as new,  re-download that app and upload them.  Works like a charm

Note 7 is the bees knees.  Amazing how crappy I think my Note 3 is after upgrading and going back to it for a week.  And I thought there was nothing wrong with it until I got my new phone

Crap.  Looks like I'm going to have to stop browsing this thread.

I'm still content with my Note 3 and was feeling even better about sticking with it with that whole battery deal.  I don't need to read how crappy my phone is now.   :P

Shut up.

Now I'll have to pick up my wife or daughter's iPhone later today and feel better about myself again.

(Not an iPhone hater - had one for a few years and generally like them. I just like my Note better, even compared to my wife's 6s.)

I'm in the same boat.  There really isn't anything I need that my Note 3 doesn't do.  The battery is not what it used to be though.  That's the only thing tempting me into thinking about a switch.

I have a brand new battery I bought for my Note 3.   Amazing how much better the Note 7 (non exploding :P  ) battery is....

I bought a two pack with charger over 2 years ago and all 3 of my batteries are still going strong.  It's especially awesome to have while traveling.  Really, it's one of the benefits the 3 still has.

This is what I have.  $27.99 for two extra batteries and the battery charger (so you can charge them outside your phone if you want).

Well that and 2 of your batteries equal 1 note 7 battery!!!!!

   :)

Has anyone noticed with the new software update to 7.0 that the swiping function doesn't seem to work very well anymore? Never had this happen before, but ever since the update, I have to swipe many times, and much further, to get an alert off the home screen. Very annoying. :firstworldproblems:

How did Samsung resolve the battery issue?  Did they lower the battery capacity?  I had no problems with my note 3 battery, but generally think the note 4 battery sucks.  I'm hoping the 7 is better.

Same battery capacity.  They identified the bad batteriess but for safety recalled ALL phones.  The new phones have the "known" good batery

3500mAh

I'm a week in on my Oneplus 3 and couldn't be happier with the device. Coming from a larger device (Nexus 6) and losing half an inch of screen real estate isn't that big of a deal. Pocketability is also more manageable. I also really like the front finger print sensor vs being on the back. Also coming from a quad hd screen to one that's "only" full hd isn't even noticeable.

For $399 why pay more for the same specs or even lesser specs. If next year's version wows me, my wife may end up getting this and I'll purchase the new one.
I've had a OnePlus 3 for a week now too and I like it better than my galaxy S7 so far. Very smooth phone, love the dash charging, the thinness, the big screen. The camera is pretty great too, very comparable to the S7 which is awesome.

Pixels get announced at noon EDT/9 PDT on Tuesday, along with some other stuff (Daydream VR, 4K Chromecast, Home, etc). Rumored specs of the phone have been sort of pedestrian so far for a $649 price point on the base model. Personally, for that price, I think they need the Snapdragon 821 standard and some ridiculous battery life, just as a start.

I have been waiting to check out the pixel.  I want to get on a smaller device than the note, but don't want to go as small as an S7.  When did phone prices become so ridiculous?  Sorry Verizon, I'm not financing an 800 Note 7.

You can buy it out right

If it's not Snapdragon 821 then what's the point?  Just another 'me too' phone that has been out all year.

This doesn't sound promising....looks like I'm going to be scavenging for a cheap phone that works on VZN
I am in the same boat as you with Verizon.  My friend mention the Huawei Mate. Is the HTC One Plus 3 available on Verizon?  He also said that's a nice device.
