All Android/Google All the Time (2 Viewers)

They're really playing up this Google Assistant and AI.

Sounds like the Pixels are made of aluminum. No other specs yet
Pretty cool Assistant feature being demonstrated.  For those of us that hate texting the voice text looks awesome.

Pricey as expected I guess.  Was thinking about giving Google Fi a shot.  It seems to be between Verizon and the galaxy 7, and Fi and the smaller Pixel.

gotcha. I don't find the note 7 that much bigger than the S7 though ...

153.50 x 73.90 x 7.90

150.90 x 72.60 x 7.70

I know we have some Amazon Echo fans here, but I'm still not sold on the appeal of a listening speaker.  The "ok google" feature works on all their devices, so do we really need another voice assistant?  Almost everyone has a Bluetooth speaker as well.

Also, what happens if you say ok google to talk to the thing and 2-3 people have android devices?

Isn't that true for all Google Photo backups now?

If I choose the Default setting it's unlimited.  If I want "ORIGINAL" it's 15 GB

Choose a storage size

You can choose between 2 storage sizes to back up your photos and videos to your Google Photos library.

High quality

  • Unlimited free storage.
  • Regular cameras: Recommended for phones or point-and-shoot cameras that are 16 megapixels (MP) or less.
  • Uses: Good for typical printing and sharing.
  • Size: Saves high-quality photos and videos while reducing size.

Original

  • Limited free storage: Uses storage in your Google Account, regardless of photo or video size.
  • DSLR cameras: Recommended if you take photos with a DSLR camera and want to maintain the exact original quality.
  • Uses: Recommended for printing large banners or to store original files.
  • Size: Stores your photos and videos exactly as you captured them.

Correct.  I sync via Photos through my Note and switched on my PC to convert the ones I had stored as original

Did they announce this or something?

I'm just confused... because It's been like this for a while and not just on Google phones.

The specs on the new Pixel were leaked by Bell accidentally.  I was glossing over them yesterday and was pretty unimpressed.  Pretty much identical form factor to the iphone, nothing new really other than a presumably beefed up processor.  Is there anything really new or interesting about it?

It's an Android iPhone 7 with a headphone jack that you can use with Project Fi.

You're right.  It's subtle, but I held both of them and the S7size is just more comfortable for one hand operation.

Welcome to the day & age of $1000 cell phones.
Who would ever pay that unless your smartphone were critical to your job for some reason?

I still use an s4 mini.   I'd still like to know what other than raw speed, battery life (which is mitigated by removeable battery), camera power, and a few newer google software tweaks....   what in the world can you do on these new phones makes them truly worth it?

For me I watch A LOT of video on my phone (tv, recordings, NFL, movies) my old  phone was geeting tough in that regard.

Now that most consumers aren't buying a camera, computer, tablet, etc. They have to get the price of all 3 in 1 device.

Pretty disappointed. I am in need of an upgrade and was waiting for this announcement and was hoping the rumors of the price were not going to be true.

And now I have a decision on my hands, do I just bite the bullet and pay the$868 for the XL 128gb from Google, or use my upgrade at Tmobile and get a Samsung S7 for over $200 less? I really would prefer the Pixel, but man, just disappointed it's not being sold through all the carriers.

Admittedly, I can see where with a large screen nice phone that you wouldn't need a camera any longer unless you're a semi-serious photographer..  and I can see where things are getting closer to not even needing a computer.

I still enjoy the laptop keyboard experience... but I have banged out plenty of documents on google docs with a smaller tablet/phone and definitely do more surfing these days with a phone and smaller tablet (which is similar to a larger phone)

Except you're getting mediocre versions of all of them and your device will be obsolete in two years.

Pre-ordered the silver pixel XL.  My note 4 has a cracked screen, and I wouldn't mind having a much better camera for Halloween.  Looking back a few years ago, I probably spent $750 or so when the Note was new.  I love my note but always felt that 5.7 was a tad too large.  I'm looking forward to the 5.5.   the one thing I am worried about is a complete touch screen surface.  I kind of like the home button on Samsung.  I ordered through Google and will just plug my Verizon sim in it.
