Does anybody in here have the OnePlus 3 and have anything to say (good or bad) about it?  Or the ZTE Axon 7 for that matter?  I am really intrigued by the Pixel, but the price tag is kind of crazy.  I can afford it, but on principle I'd prefer not to.  Currently rocking the Nexus 5 and the battery on it sucks balls at this point (considering the age, understandable, I guess).
I have had one for about a month and I love it. I have an S7 also and have stopped using it for the OnePlus. Nothing bad to say about it at all. Selling my s7 because I like it so much. The dash charging, which is their own fast charging is awesome. It charges from 20% to 80 in about 25 minutes, all while I'm still using the phone. Very solid build, feels good in my hand with their extremely thin case on it.

Here is something simple that I can't really explain why I think it is so perfect about the OnePlus 3 - you don't have to press the button attached to the fingerprint scanner. You just place your finger on it and it reacts. I know pressing a button is minimal but once you get used to not pressing it going to a phone you have to press it makes it seem like a huge pain. I love that feature. The only phone I've seen that also had this was the 6P. But the sensor is on the back so I didn't like as much.

DAMN YOU - making me already miss my Note 7!@#!#!@#!#   No press on that either

I didn't know that. I assumed it was like the S7. I really wanted to try a note 7.

Phones I've owned in the last year, in order

iPhone 6 plus, LG V10, galaxy s7 active, galaxy s7, iPhone 7 , OnePlus 3. Wanted a note 7, just bought an S7 edge to see what it's like, but don't have it yet. My favorite of all of them is the OnePlus 3.

S7 you don't have to press either.   You do however have to press the home button, power button to make sure the phone is "active"  if that makes sense. So i guess in theory it's not truely no button press

Current considerations:

-Stand pat, wait for prices to fall, hope the android upgrade to my Nexus 6 improves it's degrading performance

-Get a one+ 3 and a PS VR

-Get a Pixel and a Daydream

Stand pat winning for now.

Did you get the case made by them?  I saw on their site multiple options made of wood (or wood appearance).  Do you know if they use Gorilla Glass (or something similar for their screens?  I often throw my phone in my backpack with pens and stuff so don't want it getting scratched up.  My N5 is still pristine in that sense.  About the fast charging, does that only work if you are using one of their cables/chargers?  Anybody know if any of the off-brand car chargers (like Anker) can mimic the speedy charge?

Since I updated my Nexus 6 to Nougat I'm happy waiting another year for the Pixel XL.

Yes, I got the "Karbon" one they make. It's barely there, only weighs a few grams, but protects from scratches and provides grip. It does have gorilla Glass. No scratches or marks at all in the month I've had it. I believe only their chargers do the extremely fast charging, and I haven't tried using others. It is a USB type C. I bought the phone, the case, an extra wall block and cord, and a car charger with cord and it all including shipping was 480.

I read this and see the 32GB Pixel for $650 and wonder if the extra money to basically have Google Assistant (and maybe the VR capability) is really worth it.

I don't even see the big improvement of the Pixel XL over the Nexus 6.  It has a faster processor and 1GB more RAM, but I'd be giving up a half an inch of screen, wireless charging, stereo speakers, OIS, and the ability to change the battery.

Well I am several generations old, using the N5 (not N5X), so anything will be a huge jump up for me it seems.  Going to the larger format phone has me a little nervous as I've never had one that big (giggle).  Is there a good value phone (along the lines of the One+3) for the 5" format?

The new Honor 8 just came out and is getting great reviews. It's $399, and was actually $350 on Monday for one day. You can get it at best buy and Amazon. It's a very nice looking and feeling 5 incher... TWSS

Good call on the Honor 8.  It does have a slightly slower processor than the One Plus 3 and less RAM (3GB vs 6GB) but it has a microSD slot.

You can change the battery on the Nexus 6?

Jumped from N5 to 6p and I am very happy. Phone runs super snappy, fingerprint scanner is awesome, and really like the front facing speakers. The Android OS really shines on the 6p and I'm now all for the stock Android experience. On the N5 the newest features made the phone feel slow as molasses.

If I were buying a new phone now I'd have to think long and hard between the 6p and Pixel just because of the premium camera. If you don't care much for the camera and VR, then I couldn't recommend the 6p enough.

Not sure why the 6P doesnt get more love. Absolutely love mine and have zero interest in moving on to a Pixel

If you do not need to get a phone right now, I'd wait for the Galaxy S8 coming the 2nd quarter of next year.  It will have the new Snapdragon 830 - much faster and manufactured on a 10nm process to extend battery life.  It is expected to also have a UFS slot, replacing microSD and almost as fast as SSD - a game-changer IMO.

interesting

Samsung's new Note 7 Refund & Exchange program (which goes live October 13th at 15:00ET) will let customers choose between the following: up to $100 bill credit if they exchange a Note 7 for "any Samsung smartphone," or $25 in credit if they exchange a Note 7 "for a refund or other branded smartphone."

I'm due for an upgrade. Only smartphone I've had is droid max

I text a ton, browse the internet daily (mostly the same sites except for Google searches) and will probably download a little music.

Cheaper is better, I don't need anything fancy

Recommendations?

Eta: I don't think I'd like anything with a smaller screen than the maxx

Check out the Asus Zenfone 3 or the Moto G4 plus

I was set to mail back my Note 7 until I got a text saying I had to wait for my explosion proof box.
Received the explosion proof box.  The phone has to be put in a bag which goes in a box which goes in another box which then goes inside another box which is lined with ceramic fiber paper.  And they put some gloves in there. Probably got cancer from the whole process.

I was close to pulling the trigger after my exchange, but too many unknown variables steered me to the S7. I absolutely loved my Note 7 and, in the end, the S7 seems to be the closest thing to it, save for the stylus. Side by side, in fact, the phones are almost identical in size.

That said, I now have to repeat the exchange process with my wife's phone, and would really like to talk myself into/out of a 6p.

How prevalent are the nougat issues? In the end, reading up on all the horror stories online scared me off. She needs something that will simply work out of the box, as she's not the type that's going to go overboard with customization or modifications.

So did I just save $100 by ordering the Note 7 last week?

Suck it Verizon

What nougat issues?

The update has made my experience better if anything.

Has anyone tried any of the non-premium 3d goggles available? I have heard the occulous was really cool, but shoukd I be getting excited for the free 3d glasses I'm getting with the pixel?  Please tell me this is cooler than it seems.  Holding a phone 3 inches from my face and watching it doesn't really sound too appealing.  I know street view has a 3d mode.  Is that cool?  Are there games or pr0n or something I should know about?

Can't swipe anymore. Takes 2-3 seconds to wake up now. Google Now doesn't work anymore. I'm sure there's more. I don't use my Nexus 6 for all that much, but ever since the software update, it's got issues.

The batteries used in Samsung Electronics Co. ’s troubled Galaxy Note 7 were tested by a lab that belongs to the South Korean electronics giant, a practice that sets it apart from other smartphone manufacturers.

To sell smartphones at major U.S. carriers, phone makers are required to test phone batteries at one of the 28 labs certified by the U.S. wireless industry’s trade group, the CTIA, to ensure compliance with standards set by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

Samsung is the only such manufacturer using in-house battery-testing facilities for CTIA certification, according to the association.

About to upgrade and I just can't buy another phone without a removable battery.  It's agony when the phone starts to get older. Not going through that again. Going with the G5

Anyone in the Phoenix/East Valley area have recommendations on a carrier & plan? Have been with Sprint forever and am off contract at month end. Their coverage is pretty craptastic but pricing is decent for unlimited data. I also understand that all the carriers have recently jacked up the price of their phones to stupid levels. I have a Note 4 i got for $100 on black friday 2 years ago. My wife has an s4 she got 3 plus years ago for free. I'm reading now they want 600-800 a phone nowadays. Refreaking dickulus. And it's not like rate plans came down to compensate. I had been thinking for a while to switch to Verizon because i know they are way faster than Sprint locally. I'm interested in ATT to bundle with DirecTV but ive heard their speed may suck here too. TMobile? Don't know much about. Any local insight would be great. Also thinking about just staying with Sprint under current plan and holding onto my Note 4 which is still great and updating her phone.

what is with you people and removable batteries? Do you always carry a battery with you?  If so, why not just carry a small power bank and get the better phone?

Did you bother to read the rest of his post?  If you hold on to your phones for a while, the battery life erodes and you need to charge it every few hours. But if you can replace the battery, you can buy a fresh battery and toss the old one.

I don't want a removable battery so that I can carry a spare (although I'm sure some people do). I want a removable battery so that I can easily replace the old battery when it starts to lose its ability to hold a charge.

I enjoy the removable batteries for both reasons.  As to BB's questions, I don't carry around an extra battery all the time, but store one in a bag I often have and one in the house.  It's great when you know there's a decent chance you'll need one (traveling, camping, etc).  Sometimes I'm about to leave the house late in the day and realize I should have charged up the phone earlier but didn't.  So I pop out the battery, put the other one in and I'm at 100%.

And they're much better than using a power bank because you don't have to worry about having a cord, too, takes 5 seconds to swap it out, and you don't have to have something connected to your phone as it charges.

Anyway, it's just another + on a phone's specs, and some people think it goes into the calculation for what makes a "better phone".  I totally understand that a lot of people would rather have water resistance if that's a trade off, but I'd personally rather have the removable battery.

Looks like some of the Verizon Pixel preorders are shipping today. Not much word from the people who ordered through Google (mine still shows pending). Not sure why Google would allow that. Maybe it was part of the exclusivity deal?

With that, reviews are out all over the place now, mostly positive. Seems the concensus is that they're great phones but nothing to wow anyone.
