Amy's Baking Company: Must-See Meltdown (2 Viewers)

Annie Dutoit, 42, who was at a nearby coffee shop, said she had dined at Amy’s with her family five or six times in the past 18 months and generally had good experiences.

She said she was surprised at the way Amy and Samy were portrayed on “Kitchen Nightmares.”

“I don’t know if the editing was done to show horrible things,” Dutoit said.

My buddy went there last night for the grand opening. He got pictures with Sammy and he was live-blogging from the event. Something crazy is going on as his site/blog was hacked and taken down last night since he was there.

here's his twitter account - https://twitter.com/rickyleepotts where he giving out updates on what is happening.
Pretty uneventful is all I'm saying. Not sure I'd want to support these nutballs - I probably wouldn't have been there unless it was to try to evoke teh crazy.

Instant classic. Has this been posted to their site, yelp review, tweeted out to them etc.?

I do have the same thought though about them now becoming famous. They will make money now because they are crazy #######s and that isn't right.

Seriously? I usually love these and didn't even crack a smile at this one.
Yeah that was pretty bad. Not sure if the creator really gets the point of the "Hitler Finds Out..." shtick.

Being female, I never understood what you guys meant by "crazy eyes". After watching this, I get it. I'm suprised that no one mentioned that Gordon Ramsey actually talked to her about her eyes during their sit down.

Awesome episode.

BTW, if Gordon sees something in a restaurant that he thinks is wrong, he will announce it to the entire restaurant or ask them their opinion during service. He does this all the time.

I wasn't really digging it until Pita Jungle.

Amy's Baking Company Kicks Out Reporter Who Found Flies In Cocktails

The Huffington Post
By Rachel Tepper

Much to our astonishment, Amy's Baking Company has yet to completely fade from the spotlight. Perhaps it's because of the public's appetite for owners Amy and Samy Bouzaglo's particular brand of crazy, but it might just be that the pair keeps pissing off the wrong people. Like journalists.

Case in point, Phoenix Business Journal reporter Hayley Ringle recently suffered through an attempted meal at Amy's Baking Company that involved fruit flies floating in her party's cocktails and ended in her group getting the boot from the Scottsdale, Ariz. eatery. Her article that followed was not kind, but justified.

But first, some context. When one of Ringle's dining companions -- Phoenix Business Journal's digital editor Adam Kress -- ordered a vodka martini on the rocks with a twist of lemon, it arrived garnished with a fruit fly. When brought to Samy's attention, the co-owner at first apologized and brought Kress a second martini, which also had a fly floating inside it. After some squabbling, Samy brought over a third drink -- with three flies in it.

Ringle and her companions complained, which is when Samy reacted in a manner similar to his appearance on "Kitchen Nightmares":

"He immediately became defensive. He said there are no bugs in the drinks, and he would pay for all of our drinks and then said we needed to leave.

I asked him if there were no bugs, did he think we planted them in the drinks? He again told us to leave.
So our group of four, which had all ordered alcohol except for me, and had each ordered a dish close to $15, walked out at Samy's stern request."

But one victor may have emerged from this whole debacle: Pita Jungle, the restaurant next door. Ringle and her party decided to eat there after getting kicked out of Amy's and found the place "super busy and very friendly."

The Huffington Post reached out to Pita Jungle to see if our suspicions were correct in that the eatery's foot traffic or sales had increased, but a representative declined to comment -- which we respect. At least someone is taking the high road.

If anything ever deserved the smiley, it's this place. The restaurant keeps going downhill, and all I can do is watch.

So the rumors are flying:

“Right now Cineflix is the most serious production company trying to secure Amy and Samy. They want to develop a show around their restaurant and their bad behavior,” a source told RadarOnline. "Amy and Samy are all for it because they feel like it’s the only way to keep their restaurant open.”
It sucks that they are going to be rewarded for such bad behavior.

Agreed. It is almost like they planned it.

Yep. That seems to be the pattern these days.

Yes, if this is done it will certainly tarnish the brand of reality shows.

Yet it would feel odd if this was not the outcome.

USA!

I'm just sick of people getting paid for being incompetent, bad people, drug addicts, and/or general train wrecks.

I would at least tune in to the first show.
No one ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public.
I imagine that the typical reaction to watching the first episode of that show would be something along the lines of this:
So I finally finished watching. All you can say is wow. And I have no doubt that wasn't a put on. She is dead serious. You can see it in her crazy, delusional, bulging eyes. She thinks she is gods gift.

I agree, but unless/until people stop tuning in, networks will still crank these shows out.

True but to be fair I watched the clip you guys posted I didn't watch the actual show and I only watched to see what the brouhaha was. At this point the only reality show I watch is Master Chef. I used to watch Hells Kitchen but it's too repetitive. Same reason I skip Kitchen Nightmares these days. Same thing different town every week.

I keep thinking that these guys must also own the Pita Jungle. Every single article mentions them, every single reviewer has the "when we were kicked out we went down to Pita Jungle.." line. They up the crazy to get people to show up, then when they are kicked out they go down and eat there.

Not exactly a genius way to make money by setting up a French cafe restaurant as a shell for your pita place, but I agree that it's weird how much Pita Jungle gets mentioned.

It's TV, not Shakespeare. 95% of it is pure crap.
Shakespeare put low humor references too ya know. Kept the 1-penny crowd coming back for more

-QG
But when all you have is low humor, you're not bringing anything to the table. I appreciate a well timed fart joke as much as the next guy, but if all you're doing is appealing to the lowest common denominator to make a quick buck, you're wasting my time.

I don't think anyone has ever accused them of being business smart.

Nice guys finish last.

To succeed in the rat race, you've got to have a good degree of ####### in your personality.

Kitchen Nightmares is downright spontaneous compared to the Restaraunt Impossible rip-off.

It's easier to just realize that life isn't about money. If one's goal is to obtain money, the first step is to realize the flow of money has no moral direction. In other words, it does not avoid flowing to #######s just because they are #######s. Nor does it desire to flow to nice guys just because they are nice guys. To believe it does requires believing in some authority to the flow of money, such as karma, or God, to give the flow of money that direction. Without such direction, it's easy to see that people are entertained by #######s, and as such money tends to flow to #######s. And likewise, nice guys are not entertaining, and as such money does not tend to flow to nice guys. If our society didn't allocate so much of their income to entertainment, whether or not #######s are entertaining, and likewise nice guys, wouldn't matter. But society does, so it matters.

Actually I am fully aware the universe doesn't care. But #######s tend to do ####### things. That tends to put them in positions that leads to them getting what they deserve for their ####### behavior. Man we are testing the filter at this point.

I'm at the same point with reality shows as well. I probably watch too much anyway. I spend too much time working after the kids are asleep and I have to have something on in the background otherwise I feel like I am working way too much. There are shows I used to like that I just can't get through anymore because it is never about the contest or other premise and is only about how big a trainwreck people can be. Maybe the first time it was funny, but its just too copy cat now and it makes the shows look way more scripted, which in some cases seems unpossible.

Yeah I got into Kitchen Nightmares because I liked the Brit version. But that show actually focuses way more on the business than fancy make overs and high pressure drama that the American version relies on. I got into Hells Kitchen for the cooking aspect but it's the same thing all drama little business. I like Master Chef because it still seems to be mostly about the food.

Why are people waiting for this guy to kick them out after they get 3 drinks in a row with bugs in them? I'm probably out of there of my own volition after the 2nd infested beverage. Either that or I'd switch to a DDT martini for my next cocktail.

May be going to Scottsdale area in the fall. Might have to see this trainwreck with my own eyes, although I really don't want these a-holes to become popular just because being total jerks is their shtick.

Just made it back from Amy's. I came away impressed with the food. I had the meatball pizza and it tasted pretty good. It was just as good as Oregano's which is a local pizza place that has a pretty good following. My friend had the Blu Cheese burger (same as Ramsey) and he said it was good. The fries and desert were fantastic. They must have made some significant changes since the show aired because I came away impressed.

We talked to Amy right as we came in and she came across as pretty friendly. We went in the late afternoon on a Sunday, so the place was pretty dead. Sammy was out talking to the customers most of the time and was great. He even took a picture with us. But you could tell that he was a control freak. He would belittle and micro-manage the staff most of the time. He even got mad at one of the staff members because he went and opened a door for a customer. I think the exact words were "You don't need to open the door. They can open the door. They're smart enough to work a door."

We didn't see Amy after we initially came in but all the customers seemed to be happy with their food. We were hoping to see a circus but ended up with a pretty good meal. I actually came away feeling bad for them because they have to try and run a business knowing that at least half the people coming in the door are looking to see a scene or to cause trouble, I know I was. I'll probably go back next time I'm in the area.

An owner or manager that belittles his staff for opening a door for a customer is causing the scene that people aren't specifically looking for. It just happens that the clueless owner/manager is putting them out there for all to see

wow, this is crazy. You see how much crazy sells these days? You guys are all going to their eatery primarily because these people are complete tools. Best decision ever for them to go on that show.
