An open letter to John Elway and John Fox (1 Viewer)

Dear Sirs,

Please consider contacting Mr. Marty Hurney, General Manager of the Carolina Panthers, and making the following statement.

"Hey Marty. This is John...John Elway. I've got John Fox sitting in here with me and we were talking about a trade that might help both of us out. We can work out the 'evening points' but the foundation of the trade is we would like to obtain JSTEW...that's what Foxy here calls him...and we would like to send you Eddie Royal. You see, we need a real deal running back and it seems like you guys are always looking for that second receiver down in Carolina and, man, I tell ya, it looks like you finally got a kid that can sling the rock down there. I think that may help both us out and, like I said, we can mesh through what balances things out. So, what do you say Marty?

You'll mull it over? Great! Have a nice day. look forward to talking to you soon."

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely,

Shutout

Don't know if the Panthers go for it but this would be a very nice move by the Broncos. Instead of all the hand-wringing about Orton (who I don't think is a good NFL QB - he's a decent QB2 for fantasy), I think Broncos fans should be more concerned about the fact Moreno is a below-average RB in my opinion and McGahee is merely a stopgap option. Getting a legit lead RB seems to me to be a more pressing area of concern.

Marty: "Whaddaya think about throwing in Von Miller?"

Carolina never goes for it unless Denver includes a decent draft pick.
I agree. I wonder if a conditional third that would rise based on performance would get the Panthers to bite. I feel bad for JStew. I think he's rotting away in Carolina and I don't see Moreno as a starting-caliber RB. Denver needs an upgrade there. This would seem to make sense for both sides which likely means it has 0% chance of happening - especially in the NFL, where trades are rare to begin with.

Elway: "You're killing me smalls! How bout I add nate irving or a 4th? I need the defensive kids as much as you do but I MUST have a run game to make Foxy worth the hire. I have got to give the man some tools to work with."

Tough call because I'm not sure how good Royal is. If I thought Royal was any marked upgrade over Lafell/Naanee, it would be dumb not to trade Stewart for him.

Personally, I'd trade Deangelo for pretty much anything of value to dump the contract. That obviously couldn't happen though. CAR could offer up Deangelo for a 5th round pick and I highly doubt anyone in the league would take them up on it.

Hense the note from John saying "we can even it out".Instead of 3 responses from people saying "that's not fair" despite it already being said that its not expected to go as is, how bout stepping up with some suggestions to make it feasible. Make it go and I'll circulate it.

Jonathan Stewart is not worth a 3rd round pick to an NFL GM.

I disagree. I think he's a first-round talent. If I was able to get him for a conditional third I'd be all over it. What I wonder is whether the Panthers would take that for Stewart. But like I said, I think it makes sense for both sides. Stewart is rotting away in Carolina and Denver badly needs a legit lead RB and Fox obviously knows Stewart well.

Only way you're getting Stewart from Carolina is for Royal AND your first round pick. I don't see the Panthers letting him go for anything less than that.

Also, go ahead and get ready for a lot of McGahee, regardless of when Moreno comes back. Like I've been telling everyone all offseason, John Fox will ride McGahee into the group this season. It's his style.

Ground you mean? Assuming yes, my follow up question is "what do they do after week 7 then cause I don't think McGahee has much left.

They still need some O-line help for this to truly make a difference.

Honestly, they should dangle Moreno out there to the Rams- given the love affair McDaniels had for Maroney long after he was relevant, he'd probably bug the hell out of the front office there bragging about all the ways he could use him as a 3rd down back.

I also still think Royal is a good WR who got shafted by McDaniels right when he was getting his wheels under him. He doesn't have the height that is all the rage right now in the NFL, but he has the speed and build of Steve Smith CAR.

He was a first round talent four years ago. If Vinny Cerrato was still a GM I could see it happen, otherwise no way.

It's hard to be a first round talent at RB when the majority of teams won't even draft a RB in the first. Check the drafts for the last ten years, RBs in the first round have plummeted compared to how it used to be.

I thought the open letter was going to read:

Dear John's Elway and Fox:

Keep up the great work with your franchise! I am a good friend of Pat Bowlen and I'll put a good word in for you, so they keep you both long term.

Best wishes,

Marty Hurney

(Hurney whispers) psst: Raiderfan, is that how you want the letter to read again?

Yes, I meant ground. To answer the question, once McGahee has been run into the ground and has proven that he has nothing left in the tank, they will continue to run him. Broncos fans will be disgusted and John Fox will continue to do it.Welcome to the fun world of having John Fox as a head coach. Fox is a good coach when everything goes according to his plan perfectly...but as soon as the plan doesn't work, you are screwed. He's the most stubborn coach I've ever seen.

How much is McGahee/Moreno and how much is the line? Back in 2008 the Panthers line was very good. How does this Broncos line stack up? Could Stewart do better?

Change Eddie Royal to Eric Decker and throw in either Moreno or a draft pick and this might work for Carolina. Whether Elway would actually trade Decker is a different question

Not sure that even a healthy JStew is the answer in Denver with an offensive line that bad - but it should be worth a few wins this year.

If you think Jonathon Stewart is the answer, you are fooling yourself. And what's up with Denver fans wanting Tebow to play? Orton > Tebow...

The line is horrible and so are the backs. If the Broncos traded for Stewart their situation wouldn't change, they still couldn't run the ball.

You would make a good Red Sox fan. Are you sure you don't want to ask Carolina to throw in Cam Newton?

Humor my pre-Alzheimeric condition. When was the last time an important skill player was traded in-season (Moss,as we now see, was a dump)?

I'm a Denver fan who absolutely does NOT want Tebow to play. Well at least not at QB. I'd love to see him line up at fullback (asuming he can block decently enough) and give Orton another weapon on the field. In my opinion there are 3 types of fans who want Tebow to start at QB: 1) Idiots. 2) Bible Thumpers. 3) Those fans who want to suck for Luck.

And (4) FF owners who see a rare ability to throw and run for points.

Dear Marty, This is Elway, just wanted to say congrats on what looks like to be your franchise QB. I think we're gonna sit tight and let history repeat itself here in Denver and go after our own franchise QB from a little school called Stanford next year. Good luck in the battle for the # 1 pick against us.

Sincerely,

JD

dump the contract that the ink isn't even totally dry on? :lmao:Not to mention that the guy the OP is offering isn't worth 1/3 of the player you are asking for. I love unreasonable trade threads.
