And so it begins: Colts hint at limiting their starters (1 Viewer)

I truly cannot believe the colts are gonna do it again. 2005 all over.

Take a month off so you are nice and rusty for the playoffs.

Not to mention blowing a chance at history (much bigger than a super bowl win)

Whew...fortunetly it was not a train wreck at least for me. But I gotta tell ya you could see Manning seething on the sidelines...he wanted this game...he wanted perfection no doubt in my mind.

What a shame. A chance to make history and part of that includes winning the Super Bowl.....I don't know of another team that would have laid down like the Colts staff made their team do today.

Sorry you can tell me all you want about injury and all that horse ####. This is what these guys live for....history. And the Colts blew a chance at football immortality. I know they can't win if a key starter got hurt...then everyone would cry how dumb they are.....but we are not talking about a meaningless game in my book....we are talking history.

And I am a Dolphins fan......but I would have loved to have seen it done by someone else in this age of football. And Manning is the one guy that can lead a team to perfection and the Colt's front office and coaching staff took that away from this team.

Again what a shame for them...and for us the football fans who pay their salaries and enable them to entertain us with a game played on a field.

Been telling everyone all week that this was not a good matchup for Manning. Hopefully not too many people played him; 192/0 is not a good day. Jets hold Colts to just 15 points.

Yeah terrible call. It should be up to Manning. He carries this team year in and out. Not up to a coach who only got his job because of Dungy. Caldwell couldnt get a job as HC at half the colleges let alone the NFL.

Indeed, it was such a shaft move to Indy fans. As a football fan in general, it's very disappointing.Manning, as usual, was a class act in his presser. But, what a letdown for football fans, Colts fan, and Colts players. Caldwell has effectively told the Colts to take a month off and not play any meaningful games for that time. Going for perfection means something, keeps the intensity up. I predict a very soft coach has now prepared his players to be a soft team once the playoffs start.Pathetic.

I am completely shocked by the Colts decision to yank their starters in a game they more than likely would have won. It's almost like Manning and the other starters knew they would be yanked and were'nt going 100%. Pathetic coaching that looks like it demoralized a team to me and I will be surprised if it doesn't bite them in the ### come playoff time. I feel bad for Indy's players and fans to have to give up a chance to run the table 6 quarters from the end of the season. The Jets got a gift IMO.

As I posted in the game thread, this decision should keep Polian out of the Hall of Fame.
If they win the SB none of this matters. If they don't, it's a ginormous blunder.
That is where your wrong. History bro....history. They will be just another Super Bowl winner...they had a shot at the greatest team ever....going 19-0 would have given them the argument to say that. That is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

You're kidding right? The Jets were given a gift and would have lost this game had Indy played the starters all game. And Manning most likely would have had 300-350 yards and at least 1 or 2 td's. The matchup had nothing to do with it.

Does your head coach know whether his (and your) Jets have a chance at the playoffs after this week?Glad you feel compelled to pat yourself on the back for this "call." Seems pretty self-indulgent and terribly weak given that you beat a bunch of backups.

If I'm not mistaken the Colts had the lead when Manning made his exit. I'm pretty sure the Colts had a chance to win with their starters in the game LOL.

I really thought Caldwell wanted to not be known as a Dungy clone and be his own man. He could have done that by going for history, unless of couse Polian told him he had to do this, which is highly possible. Either way he's either a dungy flunkie, or a Polian puppet.

This thread is comical. The group of you complaining about starters being pulled are the same people who would be complaining if a key Colts player (or two) were injured today.

Bottom line is this: Ask every NFL player what their ultimate team goal is, and you`ll get a near unanimous response: Win the Super Bowl.

Guess what? The Colts ultimate goal is still within reach.

If they win the SB none of this matters.
False. 53 guys and a bunch of fans just got robbed of a shot at history. I can't believe Caldwell really did that.
I would bet my last dollar that Caldwell took this order from Polian.
No doubt....damn Polian Puppet.
I wonder what would have happened if Caldwell had gone against Polian's orders. I know from personal experience that Polian has quite a temper, so I wonder if he would have fired Caldwell after the game or during it.

I want to stab a fork in my eye listening to all of this "either/or" "But you'd rather win the SB" crap. As if there's anything to suggest the chances of the SB would be diminished by playing the final 20 minutes because ya know that Manning is so injury-prone. Plus Indy's track record of flipping the switch after taking 3 weeks off is so good. Hopefully they get the sand out of their ######s in time for their semi-annual divisional round chokejob at home. You Indy, are a disgrace to the sport.

The only positive here is the opportunity to bet against Sanchise in a road playoff game.

If the Colts make it to the AFC championship game (50/50 chance) to face the Chargers, I would bet on San Diego straight up. And this is from a Colts fan.

I just don't think losing helps you win the SB.

The Giants/Pats game pretty much ended the "debate" in my opinion. The Giants had nothing to play for, but played every started all 4 quarters to try to end the Pats perfect season. They came so close, played so well, it's what a lot of Giants players credit as the turning point for them winning the SB.

And for the Pats, they still made the SB. Resting guys wouldn't have changed anything in the SB.

The Colts might have the best QB in the history of the NFL, and they've gone to 1 SB. Both times they rested guys 4 weeks early they lost in the 1st round.

Even if they win the SB, that doesn't mean it was right. You can go all-in with 2-7 offsuit in texas holdem and win, doesn't mean it was the right move. Sometimes you win despite bad moves.

I had kinda hoped the Colts would go to the Super Bowl and win it and be perfect.

Now I kinda hope they lose in the first round.

At least all the paying ticket holders got to watch quality scrubs play today

:shrug:Just a stupid, stupid decision all the way around, and I don't have a single Colt on my FFL teams or going against my teams. Lombardi would crawl out of his grave and club Caldwell like a baby seal if he could. Caldwell now has:- a young quarterback with zero confidence left who will feel that the loss of a perfect season is partially on his shoulders,- An angry Manning, who (despite the press conference, just look at his face when he was on the sidelines) has to be absolutely fuming under the surface at yet another coach yanking a chance at a perfect season out from under him,- a team who will be rested and completely out of synch come playoff time,- fans who rightly feel that they were jobbed, and - Rex Ryan sending him suggestive emails in thanks for the Christmas gift handed to him.It won't happen, but I could not blame Manning one bit if he took a knee on the first snap of the first round playoff game, walked off the field, handed the ball to Caldwell, and said "Here you go, Einstein" before walking into the locker room.

You must be beside yourself angry at this game. Sorry, man. I'm more ticked off at this game than I am at the Giants debacle and I've been a Giants fan since the days of Spider Lockhart.

I hate the Colts more than any other franchise. This was just pathetic. How can you have such a lack of competitiveness as an organization to let something like an undefeated season just go by the boards?

Beat a bunch of backups? The Jets played who was on the field. Would the Colts have beaten a bunch of backup since the Jets don't have Leon Washington or Kris Jenkins or had Damien Woody get hurt? Who knows what would have happened if the Colts had kept in their starters, but the result may have been very similar. Manning didn't look like he was going to have a big fantasy day.

What game were you watching? He came so close to hitting 2 TD's to Wayne and Clark...another 1.5 quarters and he racks up another 100 yards passing and at least a TD.Take those rose colored glasses off...and watch the Jets get trounced in the post season. LOL.

wow. Saturday sounded ticked off postgame, and he had every right to be.

As a Texan fan I always found it odd that I didn't hate the colts...mostly due to being in awe of Manning's greatness. Would've been nice to see him get that perfect season.

It's okay, Hoss. The Jets knocked off the last undefeated team in the league, AFC South division champs, last year, too.

You are aware the Jets had the lead in the third quarter when the Colts starters were still playing, right? I suspect the Colts would have won, yes, but the Jets certainly had a shot even if Manning played the entirer game. The Colts are a better football team, but it's not like the Jets don't belong on ther field with them either. The Jets D can keep games close.

If not for a botched XP, the score would have been 17-10 when Manning and the others left the game, and the Jets only TD came on a kickoff return, so yeah, I don't see how this was a bad matchup for them. When the starters were in there, the Colts were clearly the better team, despite a good day by the Jets defense.

And I was as pissed as anyone when the Colts pulled their players. As a fan of the game, you want to see history. Caldwell and/or Pollian decided to be ####### about it. :moneybag: :hot:

The Jets were playing their B game, and were winning in the third quarter. The Jets started committing more to the running game in the second half, and I think they would have done that either way (Schottenheimer got too cute, as he's apt to do, in the first half). The Colts run D still stinks, after all these years; the Jets had 202 yards today, and I think the Jets have a great chance to upset the Colts if they meet in the playoffs. The Jets got outplayed in the first half, maybe even badly outplayed, but kept it within six. The Jets need the ball first next time, as the Colts winning the toss seemed to really put the Jets behind the 8-ball for awhile. The Colts drove down the field, the Jets had bad field position, the Colts then scored and had control of the game. The Colts are one of those teams that are much easier to beat when you have the lead than when you're trailing. They're far from an unbeatable team though, and you saw that again today.

Yeah, the Jets were winning in the 3rd quarter because of a kickoff return...for about four minutes until Peyton drove them down the field for another score to give the Colts a lead they would not relinquish until Manning and the others left the game. Yeah, the Jets had 202 rushing yards...the great majority of which was after the Colts pulled their starters. The Colts coaching staff/front office basically handed the Jets the win today. The Jets could very well beat them in the divisional round, simply because the Colts always lose in the divisional round when they start resting players early. It is amazing that the Colts still haven't figured out that they do not succeed in January when they operate this way. I will be SHOCKED if they make it to the Super Bowl.

The Colts kept their D starters in... Freeney did leave and come back only for passing downs, but that was the Colts D the Jets ran on in the second half. The Jets wanted to rock Manning into next week. They put some big hits on him. Polian wanted him out. It's called protecting the franchise. To listen to some people, you would think the Jets are worse than Cleveland. You want to complain that the Jets scored on a KO return? Maybe then, I should whine about how they held Brees to less that 200 yards, no TD's, only allowed NO offense to score 10 points and the only reason the Jets lost was because the NO defense outscored their offense thanks to Sanchez. Same line of thinking. You can't pick and choose only some plays and do the "what if" game, unless you open it up to games like NO/Jets too.
