Any H. Nicks owners concerned about his ankle (1 Viewer)

Giants receiver Hakeem Nicks says he expects to play against Colts

Zach Berman/The Star-Ledger

Wide receiver Hakeem Nicks expects to play in Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts after he was in pads for today's practice, although his participation was limited. Nicks did not practice on Wednesday or Thursday while he recovered from an ankle injury, but he does not anticipate an issue before Sunday.

“In my eyes, I expect to play,” Nicks said. “Unless they tell me otherwise when game time gets here, but I felt good today.”

Nicks said his ankle hurt when he cut to his right earlier in the week, but he no longer has any limitations. Coughlin said Nicks is a game-time decision.

“We’ll see how he is in the morning after he’s done a little bit,” Coughlin said.

Nicks + Umenyiora are questionable. Nicks did some work during team drills today, Coughlin said. #nyg

Nicks expects to play. Also says he's havin no issues cutting/changing direction. The ankle "responded pretty good." #nyg

Well then you heard wrong. RT @AmpedFantasy: heard nicks was only jogging... #nyg

Being "at" practice isn't the same thing as "participating" in practice. You guys need to read a few more aricles if you just think he's good to go already. He just stood around most of the practice and Coughlin admitted he'll be a game time decision.
he ran, made cuts. settle down. he's absolutely going to play.

Do we know if he's playing yet?
Look dude you won't know until around 6 - 7 pm eastern time Sunday night. That's the point.
But he practiced, right? That's a good sign. He's probably going to play. Why else would they have him practice?
Leave him in your lineup then if you are so confident that he will play.
I'm torn between him and Santonio...the Jets will fall behind but can Sanchez pass for garbage time stats? I'll probably bench Harvin for both these guys.

Enough of the shtick. It's not funny.

If I owned him I'd play on planning him this week.
Nicely planned, sir. As to the issue...If you have the option I think you sit him this week. It's not just if he will play, it's if he will finish or even be productive.I don't think Coughlin was just being cautious with him otherwise he would have said they are just resting him. It's looked to me like, and this is inferential speculation, Nicks has been day-to-day with Coughlin wanting him to practice if he could. So it looks to me like he couldn't practice. If they were just being cautious, why did he even try to practice on Thursday?I don't worry that much about his practice reps. What I worry about is that if his ankle is still hurting enough that he can't get through a practice, can I count on it to hold up through 4 quarters even if they do tell us in pre-game that he will play?I think it could very easily be a situation where they give him some action early in the game and then shut him down at some point to keep him from aggravating it further or that it gets worse and he simply can't go. Who wants to have that goose egg or 1/15 day from your WR2 because he didn't last through the 1st quarter or was unable to cut effectively or get enough separation to get open? A lot of risk there. I probably look elsewhere unless you really have no other option.

I just don't see him missing time at all, and dude played with a broken toe all last season. IF he was running and making cuts on it, and it seems fine tomorrow, I'm starting him in all my leagues. And I have him in literally all my leagues.

Coughlin is gonna have a talk with Nicks about 'injury speak gamesmanship'...

looks like he's playing tho...

Wasn't it Plax (2008 version) that never practiced because of an ankle but always showed up for gameday? Not that this means a thing, outside it's been known that Coughlin will play you even if you haven't practiced.

It was actually 2007, the year they won the super bowl. I believe he didn't practice the whole season because of an ankle and basically just showed up on game day. He ended up with 12 touchdowns after catching 3 on opening day. Queue twilight zone music.

this thread is fail
:goodposting: The level of neurosis is over the top. I don't agonize 24/7 if my player has a stiff joint, bellyache, or whatever. If Nicks isn't ready on Sunday, that's what backups are for. Having said that, all I've seen leads me to believe Nicks will be fine and is a must start.

I think the point is that Nicks is playing Sunday night, which makes it difficult for people in deeper leagues that don't have any replacements playing Sunday night or Monday night. I recommend ignoring any threads that don't interest you instead of wasting your time posting in them.

Thanks for the good advice. Will try to do that next time, and I ignored this thread entirely but when it became 3 pages long, I invested 5 minutes of my life I wont have back. I guess I needed to vent over the top of it. Carry on.

It's a Sunday night game against the Colts, he had limited practice on Friday, seemed to do OK. Unless there are some setbacks today or tomorrow on the ankle, he'll play in that type of game. Assuming that there are no setbacks, unless you have a very good option to replace Nicks, you have to start him.

yes, the recipe to beat the Colts is to run the ball but the game should be a high scoring one and you always want to get your players into games where there are a lot of points, especially when that guy scored 3 Td's the week before. There will not be a report that says, "Nicks is 100 percent healthy, start with confidence" before your 1 and 4 O'clock games. If that bothers you to the point you can't take it, then simply start someone else. I have him in 3 of my leagues and he's starting for sure in 2 of them and still debating between him and Hines Ward for the 3rd.

I thought I read that he hurt the ankle early in last week's game...then went on to catch the 3TDs. If he continued to play on it after he injured it last week, gotta believe he'll be, if not 100%, at least more healthy than he was for most of last Sunday's game.

This generally tells you little, as it's an issue of pain and swelling, neither of which is a major hinderance until a day or so later. You can get through a game before all this hits to the full extent.

If you guys are worried see if you can grab Manningham off waivers just in case. Me? Nicks is in my lineup with no worries

Not big news, but news.

Giants | Hakeem Nicks travels with team Sat Sep 18, 12:41 PMNew York Giants WR Hakeem Nicks (ankle) has traveled with the team for their Week 2 game, reports Ralph Vacchiano, of the New York Daily News.

Stephania Bell said she has a bad feeling about Nicks this week, therefore...just speaking for myself, I start Mr. Nicks with confidence.

With Nicks' injuries last year, didn't he play through a lot?

I would think that they would shoot up the ankle to eliminate the pain unless it would risk a multi game injury. However, the Giants have plenty of talented WR's that could step up so they might keep whipping the horse till it can't go anymore and then put in another horse. I would imagine that they'd be motivated to play him vs Indy.

This guy is injury prone and will deal with nagging injuries all year. I'd sell him if he has another good game.

The real question becomes who is the real value play? Manningham?

Playing Nicks in two leagues - on one I already have Lance Moore (Monday) rostered - in the other I will try and pick him up in the morning - best available from IND/NYG/SF/NO

Yes.But the question is how many of those games was he better than your WR3.I think he'll play. I just don't know how effective he'll be and if he'll get his full quota of plays. If I've got a decent WR to sub for him, I do it.

Starting Bradshaw over Nicks...I love Nicks think he will be fine.. but i see the run of the giants going off on Indy...

With no negative reports, I'm rolling with him in my leagues. Specifically, starting him over Bowe as WR2 in a ppr, and Jerome Harrison as a flex in a ppr.
