$15.,95 a pack--five cards a pack. The best card I got was a .75 Josh Allen insert.
Jesus. Times have changed
Are card shops even around anymore?
I actively sought out and took my kid to a card shop on Saturday. It was the first time I've been in a card shop in ~25 years. I used to be massively into the hobby in the 90's (great timing, I know). My son has started showing an interest. We got a few boxes off the internet, and on Saturday, I bought him a Joe Burrow rookie, and a box of Score football packs. I also got myself an Upper Deck hockey box. I don't know what to call the box - when I was a kid, there were wax boxes of 36 packs of cards. Now there's blaster boxes, booster boxes, collector boxes, and probably 30 different kinds I didn't list. I can't keep them straight. It takes forever to try and look a card up. The really good ones probably don't even have a price because they're some odd numbered hyper holo ruby diamond thing that has never sold in the open market.
Long story short - The trading card hobby is super confusing. I've spent over $200 thus far on packs for my kid, and honestly, I don't think he's pulled anything worth more than $10-$15 tops, and most cards are $1 or so. It's hard to get excited when you spend $40 for a box of 6 packs of cards.
I think, honestly,
if he stays in it, I'm going to start encouraging him to buy single cards vs. packs. Find a guy you like on a cool card and just buy it. I think ultimately that's the way to go unless you have thousands of dollars to spend on packs hoping to hit the lotto.
I'm certainly open to suggestions/tips, but I can't figure out how this is anywhere near as fun as it was when the cards were worthless, but at least you had a chance of actually getting something you wanted in a pack.
