Woohoo. Finally got a win together!
Nice!

Pretty sure I cost us a win in one my 2nd place games.  I think I underestimated where the final ring was, got jumpy, and gave up our position.  Don't think the other team knew where we were, and it was 2v2.

I started playing Apex around March. It's the only game I've played in over 15 years. I'm just now starting to sort of get the hang of it.
I am bad and have been playing stuff for years.  Bit in my defense it was mostly Skyrim and Fallout were there is VATS/aim assist.  Like you said, I feel like I am just starting to get a bit of a handle on the game.  I looked at my original account, and those stats were even worse than I posted- I think a  .1 kill/game average and average damage of 60/g?  A bit better now, and stats get better every season.

I'm buying one of those elite controllers this week

 . I have several of those.
I'm better in a support role.  When I go straight out and get downed immediately, I put the team at an immediate disadvantage.  I seem to have a lot more success when I hang off to the side and shoot the guy who's shooting my teammate.  In our win last night, we basically stayed on one side of the map and no one was there for most of the game. Luckily, the ring closed directly toward our side and we had the position so not a lot of battling.

I assume better handling/response?
I gave one to my son this Christmas. Its got removable thumb sticks that are both normal and taller sizes. They are also adjustable where you can make them tighter or looser depending on preference. Also it comes with paddles where you can reassign a specific function to a paddle - like sprinting or that stupid melee action in Apex.

Assign melee to a paddle you never use and no more accidental punches during hot battles (we’ve all done this).

Is it worth it? I'd like to have better control of my aim.

I’ve never used it, but he loves it. He doesn’t play Apex but is super good at Fortnite. He uses one tall stick, and I think one of them is tight, the other looser for some reason or another - helps him in aiming or something. And I think he uses paddles for building. I believe assigning stairs to one paddle, walls to another and so on.

That's how I usually play.  More of a clean up, ping loot, help revive type of role.   Starting to get back into bloodhound.  Dont use the ultimate to charge in, more to highlight foes, ping for better teammates, and try to snipe a little.

I use the elite controller but don’t do any customization with it. Just like the way it feels. They are all I’ve used since they day the first one came out.

Went to local game store for the first time in my life and compared controller. Elite series 2 much better feel than the Razer or Series 1.

I think I play a completely different style than the rest of you. Always drop hot zone if I can. Prefer kills over wins. Rarely pass up a battle.
I'm at the mercy of my teammates this most of the time. If there's two or three of us playing together that know each other, we're trying to win.  Map positioning. Taking the battles that are winnable and give us the best shot at winning the round.

I mean I do realize that I am not going to get better at combat if I dont engage in combat, but if I try to go in hot zones like ECB it usually ends in a couple minutes and probably without a kill as I run around like a chicken with my head cut off only holding a grenade or a 2020.  I feel like I spend the night watching my teammates play, or loading games.

I am getting better at engaging, but prefer to land where we have a chance to loot up and get a gun I like before meeting up with people.  During the weekdays if I only play an hour, I will usually suggest or jump into the corners of the map.  If I am playing longer I will mix it up a little.

Like you said- at the mercy of the jump master though, and if it's not me its usually Train Yard, Mirage, and Capital here we come!!

1 kill second game. Terrible teammates running wild
I get reminded on a daily basis how much "easier" this game would be with an intact team most times you play.  Most of the time my team is spread out and we are easy pickings.  Last game last night = I am jumpmaster again, we head (OK - I do) to Sorting Factory.  Of course one teammate decides to dip out and land on the other side of the canyon from there - I think fuel depot or something, so they are far away.  I see another team heading to the main building of Factory so I ping the winding building an head there.   Teammate #2 gets killed immediately in main building with group that dropped, and other dude logged off.   I found an R99 with some good attachments and blue armor, so I run back to try to find his banner.  I was able to knock down one player but of course they are working more as a team  and there are 2 other players immediately on me and I die.

Just other situations where I try to run in and help, but it's 1v2 or 1v3 and I am for sure not down for that.  I usually think to myself how it would be nice to be able to talk to people so they could at least tell me that there are a couple around, somebody was in the corner, etc..

I know people are 50x better than me, but I also wonder how common aim bots are on these games.  Just surprises me how often I get taken out with a couple shots by something like an Alternator at a good distance.

There's definitely some cheating happening. I've been dropped by a couple shots from an almost impossible spot a lot. I check to see who killed me and they have like 20 total kills.  Seems to be spread out evenly more now, though.

I saw,an article saying they've banned 770k from Apex for cheating. more common on PC I'd bet, but I've seen stuff about buying aim bots on ps4 too.

I've watched videos showing people raining headshots through smoke and tracking fees through rocks.

I realize I am not good at the game, but every once in awhile I have that "HTF" moment when I get downed.

Played a handful of games.  No wins, but two 2nd place finishes.   Seems like I am back to not being able to hit jack (more than usual)

What now
Just saying that I am always surprised when I play a ranked match, and it's hardly different than regular- I am playing vs people with 1000s of kills.

Me on level 80 averaging less than a kill  game and someone on level 40 with 300 kills probably shouldn't in the same tier if they want level playing for the ranked matches.

Played a couple last night.  A couple more 2nd places, but both times I was 1 v 3 at the end.   Once was me dropping solo because the other 2 DCd before we landed.  I just looted/hid/took pot shots/dropped Bangalore's bombs from a distance as teams were fighting each other. - ended up with a couple kills and 500-600 damage.    I had a decent gun at the end, but the other team was just out of reach where I couldn't get to any of them on the edge of a rock, and it was easy for them to drop down on me.

I have the day off today, so after I drop the little one off and knock out some shopping I will be home just in time to fire up S4 and play some games before I have to pick her up from 4K.

ETA:  I have enough coin and stuff from S3 battle pass to do that, and I have 25K of the middle ones, so I can unlock the new character which I will probably do since I don't think I will use Mirage or Octane at all.  Son showed me a trailer for S4 last night and the new character looks cool, but if it's like the last couple unlocks, you probably won't get to play as him unless you are picking first, and you will probably have him on every team for a couple weeks.  The video also made it look like Watson's ult changed a bit, but I don't remember reading anything about that.

New dude's ult seems awesome in theory.  You plop a death totem that protects you.  Instead of dying or getting knocked down, you return to the totem.

Going in...
