Are all women bad at estimating how much ice is required for coolers? (1 Viewer)

Two example in the last day:

1. My mom was sending some frozen blueberries back with me, I had a six hour drive so I said just put them in this styrofoam cooler with an ice chunk they should stay frozen. She then proceded to load the cooler with a couple quarts of warm beans, a couple bags of lettuce, and some dishes (wrapped in paper) straight from the cupboard she didn't need anymore. I say "Mom with all that warm stuff you're putting in the cooler there is no way the blueberries stay frozen". She disagrees and says "yes they will I'll just wrap them in this (warm) newspaper first". I quit protesting, it's no use. End result: Blueberries partially thawed when I get home 6 hours later.

2. While I was gone on trip to moms, wife gets call to gather together 4 dozen cans of soda for baseball picnic. She says she put the ice in the freezer and tells me to just put them all in cooler a couple hours before we go. I go to get ice from freezer and its about 4 dozen cubes, one for each can of warm soda. I make emergency run to store to get more ice.

I don't think women understand have a clue how much ice is required for coolers. Do not trust them with this job, it is best left to men.

My wife has the opposite problem. We will be filling a small cooler with maybe a case of beer, she comes back with enough ice to transport a whole butchered cow cross country.

I've had this discussion with my wife at least 10 times in the last 9 years and she's never grasped it...

When you put drinks on ice in a cooler or bucket, they go from warm to cold in 30mins.

She always puts the beer, soda, juices, water on ice outside about 2 or 3 hours before the party starts and invariably half of the ice is gone when people arrive and I'm running out to the store to get more ice.

It's incredible. I can demonstrate the science to her but next time, again, it's out there 3 hours early. Every. Damn. Time.

You might think I'd do it instead. No. She goes mental if we wait until 30mins before. It's actually better for me to let it melt off and go get more ice.

Why not just buy an extra bag of ice next time or get a better cooler.

I am not understanding the issue here. I put the soda/beer in 2-3 hours before and I have never needed more ice. There is still usually plenty of ice in there the next day.

Even when i use a cut in half plastic 55 gallon drum with no lid I have never needed to get more ice. Is your cooler black with no lid and stored in direct sunlight the whole party?

But what if somebody wants a cold beer more than 30 minutes before the party technically starts? Hell, whoever's setting up will be getting thirsty, right?

I only have one rule in life....it's never too early to put the beer on ice. I never want someone to show up at my home, particularly if it's early for a party, and not have a cold beer ready to plop in their hand.

He needs to talk to Coach Bobby Finstock.

Is that wrong? I usually line it with foil too.

I used to have a 2nd rule.....don't exaggerate when there are lawyers about.

But I couldn't stick to it, so I ditched it.

I just feel like there should be something about farm animals.

  1. Whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy.
  2. Whatever goes upon four legs, or has wings, is a friend.
  3. No animal shall wear clothes.
  4. No animal shall sleep in a bed.
  5. No animal shall drink alcohol.
  6. No animal shall kill any other animal.
  7. All animals are equal.

My wife has the reverse problem.

Step 1 - Fill the cooler with ice

Step 2 - NO ROOM FOR BEER BECAUSE THE COOLER IS FILLED WITH ICE

Clearly, there's a larger problem at the root of all of this......what are you people doing letting a woman pack the coolers????????

If you let a child balance the family checkbook, you can't complain when it goes wrong.

Yes. They think 3 cubes on the bottom is going to keep a beer cold. She looks at me like I'm crazy when I fill it to the brim, shake it, and fill it some more. Meanwhile, pre-concert I'm drinking ICE cold cerveza.

Hey, I'll tell you what. You can get a good look at a a butcher's ### by sticking your head up there but wouldn't you rather to take his word for it?

Does anyone not put the drinks in before the ice? Seems someone with a second grade education could figure this part out.

It's more the bucket in the sun rather than the cooler.

I never buy the extra ice because I always think I'm going to talk sense into her and this time it'll be different.
