Are you a Costco member? What do you buy for your household? (3 Viewers)

We get far more back in rebate than we ever spend on the exec membership. Biggest no brainer in the history of earth.
Yep - with 4 kids there wasn't even a point in doing the analysis.  We've been members forever.

My FIL and MIL constantly got to the local Costco, upwards of 4-6 times per week. Alot of times for a couple minor items or simply just to walk around without being subjected to stifling heat (they live in PHX)

It's gotten to the point where they have inside jokes with alot of the CostCo staff that most know them on a first name basis.
I can see doing that regularly to get some human interaction when I retire.

Finally Today is the day.

Finished up @ the DMV and the wife and I are getting breakfast.

After breakfast the birthday boy is going to join Costco.

Be sure to leave a trail of empty sample cups so you can find your way back out.

My only complaint with Costco.  I swear people go there to get a free meal out of all the samples.  They're constantly clogging up aisles trying to get their free samples.

Has anyone used Costco for vacarions? We are planning a Cancun trip for mid winter.

Try not to spooge in your jeans as you are walking around there.

But if you do, pick up a extra pair  for $14.99.

So when they ask to see your card at the entrance you can say you're just there for a hot dog?
I don't know if they do this everywhere, but at mine they don't really look for the cards too much, since you need one to check out. Fumble with your wallet and usually there is no problem.

Just picked up these premier protein shakes. 30g protein 1g sugar low fat etc.  it's on sale this month. Pretty good stuff

Great in a pinch - but it didn't stick with me too well.  I would have one for lunch and be craving food by 3pm.  Wicked amount of chemicals in them too.

Just joined last month.  We will break even on the membership $ just on bottled water and Gin, everything else is a bonus.

Will go through this thread more, and will probably find the answer, but will still be lazy and post here:

Anybody us any of their other services:  no haggle car purchase, flooring, optical, etc?  What was your experience?

Just me and the Mrs mostly, doesn't really help us to buy staples in this store. I can get as good a deal or better for example when Publix runs their once a month a sale on the paper towels and bathroom tissue I tend to use(Kleenex/Cottonelle).

I understand families save money but I find many items they sell are not that much cheaper but you're already there to get a few staple items, might as well just grab that widget you were thinking of getting anyways. People spend $250-$500 a cart like it's nothing.

Nightmare to find parking, long lines to checkout...Miami anyways, we hated it and only bought a 1 year membership one time, never again.

I got glasses for my daughter there. It was fine. I think she would have liked more choices for frames.

My time and convenience is worth whatever couple bucks more some items more. I may not be getting the cheapest price possible, but it does decrease the number of trips I have to take.

That makes sense, I can ride my bike or flat out walk to my grocery store. I don't buy products that aren't fresh and so I can't "stock up" for a week or two either. I'm not losing money on gas or trips that I can see, actually improving my health by staying out of Costco.

I totally understand the family of 5 who lives 10 miles out of town and need to load up.

I just don't like the insides of these places. People who tend to frequent these places drive big gas guzzling SUVs and like to drink a lot of Red Bull.

This time of year, I'll pick up a couple of mums for the porch.  Hard to beat 15 bucks for the size of those things.  Just picked up a 3 pack of golf gloves.   Really good price.

optical, yes.   Save $$. hassle free

Costco has real Jamon Iberico de Bellota.  $15 for 3 oz. but worth it IMO for the best ham in the world.  Put that on a baguette and drizzle a little olive oil on it and have the best sandwich of your life.

Never had it or heard of it but I'll give it a try.   What section did you find it?

Good to know.  We usually get the Kirkland chips, but I'm always on the lookout for a better tortilla chip experience.
Unlike all other tortilla chips for me that require some sort of dip to eat, these can be eaten on their own which isn't always a good thing.

I hear ya, especially on that last part.

I hope my store is sampling those Food Should Be Good chips during my next visit so I can be all, "Tortilla chips?  What are those?  I'll try one, I guess" with the sampling ambassador.

This is a really odd take, even for you.

Saturday it's back to Costco for round 2.  My parents want to go check it out and decide if they want to join so I just felt obligated to go.

Seconding this rec - my favorite chips at any store. Although ours recently had baked tostitos scoops that were cheap and solid.

And chips and salsa are my favorite food by a significant margin.

Costco Travel is great for car rentals.
Just booked one through Costco Travel website.  They found a deal that buried competitors and even the rental car company's own site.      Didn't have to pay upfront for it, and have a window for free cancellation.  Makes me want to drive to their store and blow all the savings on Kirkland Center Cut Bacon.

If you like these, they just went on sale.   I crush a bag a week so I'm stocking up.

I book as soon as I think I might need a car for a trip. Then a check back about once a week to try to better the price. Its very easy to book and cancel your previous booking.

Their Kirkland Brand Protein Bars are really good.  Cookie dough and Chocolate flavor.  20g of protein for about 80cents/bar

I almost had a panic attack my first trip to Costco, because I didn't know what to buy. It's just me and my wife...no kids yet...so wtf are we going to do with 10 lbs of chicken, or one of those enormous boxes of cereal? Now that I've been able to peruse the entire store, I'm pretty addicted to it. The large pack of toiler paper will last us three months. Dog food. Olive oil.

The Kirkland brand protein bars (21g protein, 1g sugar) are a knockoff of Qwest bars, but almost as good and nearly 1/3 the price (20 pack for $18 in store).

Costco in Brooklyn is basically the worst place in America. Here is the parking lot at 2pm http://i.imgur.com/YQOwsDt.jpg

I got so lucky getting a spot. Wife sent me today, so I decided I'd take my 4 year old... Without the wife I can walk in thinking I'm spending $200 and leave spending $200. Also, figured without the Hasidic Jews on Saturday it wouldn't be as crazy.

Next time I'll send the wife, I don't care what she spends - I just never want to go back again.

:lmao:

I love visiting NY - could never live there.  A close representation of my costco parking lot today.  Couple hundred miles away in Houston, but identical.
