Um I don't shop at Costco. I use my card for everything - maybe others are talking about something different
I do buy a lot at Costco, but I’m talking about their rewards visa as well. We use it for just about everything including work travel (we don’t have corporate cards).Um I don't shop at Costco. I use my card for everything - maybe others are talking about something different

We are in the costco thread right? Theres also. the executive membership that gives you 2% back. This makes more sense now. We grocery shop there about once per month and use it for gas. Typically we only get back about $150 give or take because we have better cash back options on other cards.Um I don't shop at Costco. I only have it because I had American Express and it switched over. I'm sure there are probably some better cash back cards but I had one that switched to some points system and I immediately canceled it. Now I just use this for everythingThis makes more sense now. $528 this year. Use it for gas for 4 vehicles and that helps at 4%
A couple of years ago we bought a trip to Universal and our check was close to $1000.
Yes, but we are talking about their Visa card (also a Costco membership card). That is a rebate on credit card spending. Using that I get 4% on Costco purchase (2% CC and 2% executive), but also get 4% on gas, 3% on travel/restaurants and 1% on anything else. No chance I ever get close to $2k back on executive membership. We are in the costco thread right? Theres also. the executive membership that gives you 2% back.
I seldomly use any other card. I have a Target debit card and Lowe’s card that give me 5% back at both places but I don’t bother with anything else. I probably should check but the bulk of my purchases are travel/restaurant/gas or Costco/Target/Lowe’s. I don’t think it would get me much more and be more convenient.I only have it because I had American Express and it switched over. We have a couple of relatively dormant cards that offer 5% cash back at particular stores during certain quarters throughout the year. We've kept them around as long as they keep doing that. We had been using the costco visa like @belljr but got an offer from capital one a couple years ago with 1.5% cash back on everything. That's now our default then use costco visa at restaurants (unless restaurants are offered by one of the lesser used cards that quarter at 5%) and all things costco (shopping/gas).I seldomly use any other card. I'm talking about the Executive Membership rewards, not the credit card.Yearly cash back isn’t capped at all at Costco.
Your Costco has a self-checkout?? Mine does not, and the cashiers also recently started having me remove about half the items from cart and put them on the belt, even though I have everything perfectly placed with the bar codes up. They say it's a new policy, to make sure things aren't hidden.pollardsvision said:Pile that flatbed strategically with all the bar codes accessible without having to move anything to scan with a wand, and roll through self-checkout.

I don’t think he’s saying they eliminated it - ours still has it.We don't have a Costco, so I use Sam's.
I had no idea that Costco eliminated self-checkout. That would drive me insane, personally, but as a business practice, I dig it. Costco said human cashiers are more efficient. In my observations of people at Sam's trying to manage self-checkout, I could buy that.
I've wondered, at times, if Sam's should reserve the self-checkout only for those that have been certified to use it (I'd be happy to teach the course).
go to the front desk. Not the returns desk but the small desk near the registers. That person always takes care of me. Goes in the back, writes me a check and I'm out.Yeah im getting back $1k for my Costco Visa card. I just put it towards my credit card bill (which I pay off in full every month). We use that card for everything. The only thing i hate is you have to go on line to get the cash and then you are holding up the register and everyone sees the cashier counting out $1000.
ok Ill try thatgo to the front desk. Not the returns desk but the small desk near the registers. That person always takes care of me. Goes in the back, writes me a check and I'm out.
The last time I stood in line and the cashier was trying to cash out his drawer for 1K he almost had a panic attack![]()

He didn't say that. Just what I gathered from a 5 minute trip on the Google machine (from 2013).I don’t think he’s saying they eliminated it - ours still has it.
We only use it if we are getting a few items. I agree that the process is usually pretty fast but sometimes if you don't go during a down time the lines can been crazy at ours. There's Costco's with self-checkout? Actually, the checkout process is in general very fast at Costco. Its not like you're scanning a thousand little things and weighing veggies. People generally have 10-20 big things and they're smart about tapping your credit card right at the beginning so people aren't fumbling around for it at the end.
279.99 - valid til 2/16I don't have a costco membership, but I'm TV shopping and would be willing to buy the membership if it makes sense. The Costco website has a couple TV's that I'm interested in, but won't display the price since I'm not a member. Could one of you guys possibly log in and tell me the price on the 50" and 65" TCL Roku tv's?

Mine used to have 2 self checkouts but they got rid of them. Not sure why it was great when you only had a couple items. Probably increased theft somehow.Your Costco has a self-checkout?? I got a better deal from Costco than I could find anywhere else when cruising, plus the rep was much more responsive to my needs when trying to changes something.Just booked a cruise through Costco. The first time I've used their travel. We cruise a lot and they matched the best price we found, gave us a $165 store card and $200 onboard credit. This for a hard to get aft cabin.![]()
I love Costco.
Your citicard cash back is for ALL purchases made with it - not just costcoI just got a reward check from costco
also was emailed my Citi card cash back two different values. Is this normal ?
Nice. It’s a double dipperYour citicard cash back is for ALL purchases made with it - not just costco
Yeah they’re good. I usually go through the peanut butter firstWe've started buying the Kirkland's brand Protein Bars. They are 21g protein, 15 g fiber and only 4 net carbs. And they are pretty darn tasty. I don't typically like these types of products both because of taste but usually they have too many carbs for what I'm doing but these are really great.
Pro tip: break up into 5+- pieces, put either the chocolate chip or brownie in the microwave on parchment paper, microwave 40 seconds. We've started buying the Kirkland's brand Protein Bars. It's somewhere in between - I don't have the time nor energy nor brain reserve to try and figure out which ones qualify and which ones don't so I just get it at Costco. Finally got the Costco Visa card - replacing my old Chase card since the reward redemption options have gone down-hill.
Question for those that have it - is the 4% cash back on gas good ONLY at Costco gas stations, or good on ANY gas station?
Has anyone booked an Alaskan cruise on Costco? I have never cruised in my life and my 76 year old father has expressed he would like to do an Alaskan cruise before he dies (his words)I got a better deal from Costco than I could find anywhere else when cruising, plus the rep was much more responsive to my needs when trying to changes something.
4% cash back on eligible gas worldwide, including gas at Costco, for the first $7,000 per year in gas purchases and then 1% thereafter. Finally got the Costco Visa card - replacing my old Chase card since the reward redemption options have gone down-hill.

It’s good at any gas station including Costco gas. The restaurant/travel at 3% is the big one for my wife and I because we use the card for all our work travel. We don’t travel like some people do, but it adds up.Finally got the Costco Visa card - replacing my old Chase card since the reward redemption options have gone down-hill.

Everything I've ever seen is based on how the merchant registers their business type with the CC processing company. If your Wawa is registered as a "Gas Station," it probably counts. It's possible Wawa actually registers the pumps as Gas and the inside register as convenience store so as to differentiate. It's really up to the business. On categorized credit card summaries, I've seen some stuff really mis-mapped with smaller businesses.4% cash back on eligible gas worldwide, including gas at Costco, for the first $7,000 per year in gas purchases and then 1% thereafter.
Certain Non-Qualifying Purchases. You will only earn 1% cash back, not 4%, for gas purchased at superstores, supermarkets, convenience stores and warehouse clubs other than Costco or for fuel used for non-automobile purposes.
However it appears my Wawa gas counts. So I don't know how they "figure it out".
Interesting. I did not know that and that may be the case but they both show Wawa on my statement.Everything I've ever seen is based on how the merchant registers their business type with the CC processing company. Yep - and this is why I haven't bothered to try and figure it out. Common sense doesn't always reign supreme when it comes to business categorization. When we go on vacation I'll note where Costco's are on the way, but otherwise for 2 hour or less trips I'll just top off on the way out of town then have enough to get there-and-back.Everything I've ever seen is based on how the merchant registers their business type with the CC processing company. Not just Wawa, most gas stations are this way. The pay at the pump readers are required to have a different MCC (merchant category code) than the inside convenience store, for processing transactions. Has to do with everything from chargeback liability for chip vs. non-chip card acceptance, ability to protect against fraud, and the whole temporary/initial authorization involved because you are paying before you pump so the end sale amount isn't yet known.Interesting.
